Shiga Lin’s Nightmare With Controlling Ex-boyfriend

Appearing in TVB’s supernatural series Barrack O’Karma 1968 <金宵大廈2>, Shiga Lin (連詩雅) opens up about her experience with filming and her overly controlling ex-boyfriend in real life.

Shiga’s real-life past romance mirrors the domineering relationship depicted in the drama, where Hubert Wu (胡鴻鈞) plays a controlling qipao designer who falls in love with her. When asked if she has ever encountered someone like Hubert in her daily life, Shiga confirmed her first boyfriend was very possessive.

“Back then, love was the biggest thing on our minds and we didn’t know how to express ourselves properly or know how to deal with our emotions. He got very anxious over my wardrobe choices – he demanded that I change out of my school dress and into my gym uniform because he didn’t want other boys looking at me. When we went out for dinner, I wasn’t allowed to wear clothes that revealed skin – all skirts had to be below the knees. If I didn’t comply, he forced me to take the bus all the way back to Shatin for me to change!” she revealed.

Finally, breaking off the relationship after a year of dating, Shiga said her ex-boyfriend immigrated shortly afterwards. Despite the poor experience, they still text each other from time to time and he is the only ex-boyfriend that she keeps in touch with.

When asked if her current boyfriend, Carlos Chan (陳家樂) has a controlling personality, Shiga laughed and said, “You can go ask him. Honestly, I don’t have any friends who are like that.”

Aside from her past relationship, Shiga also shared her filming experience in Barrack O’Karma 1968. “We usually film at night and the studio is gigantic – it’s super eery when you walk in, especially if you go to the bathroom. There was a time when I heard noises from the lights. I had no choice but to ask someone to accompany me to the washroom. I avoid drinking water when I’m filming, but at the same time I’m scared of kidney stones.”
