“Squid Game 2” to See Return of Key Cast Members

Korean drama Squid Game successfully broke down language and cultural barriers to become the most watched Netflix drama of all time. One month after its release on September 17, 2021, it amassed a staggering 1.65 billion views across the world. Netflix has now officially announced that director Hwang Dong Hyuk will return to direct a second season.

The director shared a heartfelt letter with fans across the world, thanking them for watching and loving the show. “And now Gi Hun (Lee Jung Jae) returns. The Front Man (Lee Byun Hun) returns. Join us once more for a whole new round.” He teased that Gong Yoo, who portrays the mysterious recruiter for the game might return and that viewers will be introduced to a new character, Cheol Su, apparently the boyfriend of the show’s iconic animatronic doll, Young Hee.

Squid Game was a critical success, sweeping multiple international awards, including the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and 58th Baeksang Arts Awards. The series also helped Lee Jung Jae and Jung Ho Yeon break into the international market and secure contracts with American agency Creative Artist Agency (CAA).
