Vivian Chow Admires Father-in-Law’s Personality

Ni Kuang’s son, Joe, is known for his marriage to singer Vivian Chow (周慧敏). The couple got married in 2009 after an on-again, off-again relationship for nearly 20 years. Ni Kuang was delighted to welcome Vivian into their family, and once said that she was the “best daughter-in-law in the world.” In 2006, Ni Kuang and Joe attended Vivian’s concert in the Hong Kong Coliseum.

Vivian got along very well with her in-laws, and is full of praise towards them, “Everyone knows that my father-in-law is a special man. He doesn’t follow the rules, and has the innocent heart of a child. He doesn’t have a lot of requests or try to interfere with our lives, so we’re able to live very freely. We treat each other with respect and we’re very comfortable with one another because we don’t have to put on a mask. Our interactions are very relaxed, and there’s no need to work hard in maintaining the relationship. My father-in-law always sees the best in everything, and will always find a reason for a compliment. I feel that he leads a very happy life, and he has influenced me to become more positive.”

Leaves Behind a Literary Legacy

Ni Kuang was also close friends with wuxia author, Louis Cha (金庸), who passed away in 2018. Friends for more than than 60 years, Ni Kuang was deeply saddened upon the latter’s death, remarking at the time, “Each person must go, but his novels will always remain.”

Although the family has not responded to press inquiries over Ni Kuang’s death yet, his friends revealed that the late author had suffered from skin cancer and diabetes.  Although his health condition had progressively worsened, he remained positive and was not afraid of his imminent death, seeing it as freeing himself from pain and suffering instead.

  1. Ni Kuang did not immigrate to Hong Kong, he escaped from China into Hong Kong. Yes, he was once an illegal immigrant.

  2. read somewhere that he got into trouble on the mainland for locking a dog and a wolf in a closet forcing them to breed.

    1. You are not kidding!! I had a wolf dog hybrid as a child. Wolves and dogs are interfertile so they can bred and produces hybrid. The dog was very loyal and beautiful. I loved my dog very much. I do not know how the hybrid came about but my dad was given this dog and my dad was able to train the dog to control her wild nature. We had a big garden which was very helpful.. We had lots of people who offered to buy our dog..and a couple who tried to steal our dog.
