Kim Seon Ho Tears Up at First Public Appearance After Hiatus
Korean actor Kim Seon Ho made a tearful appearance at a public conference for his upcoming play Touching the Void – his first ever in nine months since his abortion claim scandal.
The 36-year-old heartthrob of Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha fame suffered a hit to his image after his ex-girlfriend alleged that he had forced her to get an abortion. While Korean online media outlet Dispatch later released snapshots of their phone conversations which pointed to the contrary, the star lost at least ten brand sponsorships and was dropped from two films, Dog Days and 2 O’Clock Data and variety show 1 Night, 2 Days due to the negative publicity which followed.
Promises to Become “A Better Actor and Person”
Appearing at the press meet for Touching the Void, in which he plays a mountaineer, Kim Seon Ho apologized as he addressed those present. “I think, I should say hi to everyone first, so I’m very nervous…I’m very sorry to have to say all these before today’s event, many people had put in efforts for this play from spring through to summer, which is borne out of everyone’s hard work, sorry (to the team) for the trouble I’m bringing to everyone” he said, tearing up visibly as he finished speaking.
The star then apologized several times to his fans, colleagues and the media. Reading a statement, he said, “I have reflected upon myself during this time and realized many areas where I could have done better, what I want to say is I shall strive to become a better actor as well as a better person, sorry.”
Starting his career as a stage actor, Kim Seon-Ho’s popularity soared as he shone in Start Up as a soft-hearted investor and later as a beloved jack-of-all-trades Hong Doo Sik in Hometown Cha-cha-cha.
Tickets for the play were snapped up a week before its premiere, following the star’s agency SALT Entertainment’s announcement of his comeback via the stage as one of its main cast. Many netizens and fans had left encouraging comments expressing their support, and hopes that he can work harder to shine once again.
