“If You Wish Upon Me” Opens With Weak Viewership
Korean legal drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo has consistently maintained high ratings since its premiere. Portraying the main protagonist, Park Eun Bin has been praised for her likable portrayal of a creative and intelligent autistic lawyer with poor social skills. Since airing, the drama has become an unexpected international sensation and continues to lead viewership despite the broadcast of other new dramas this summer.
With its last episode to air next week, Extraordinary Attorney Woo started a slight downward trend. The audience criticized the latest episodes for being anticlimactic. Due to the popularity of the show, the broadcasting station has also been capitalizing its viewership numbers and have added more commercials and advertisements that interrupt the storyline constantly. The broadcast of the latest episode dropped in average viewership from 14.937 to 13.515 percent.
However, even with its drop in viewership, Extraordinary Attorney Woo continues to remain at the top of the chart, surpassing even Ji Chang Wook’s new drama, If You Wish Upon Me, which also airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays in South Korea. The premiere of If You Wish Upon Me opened to 3.6 percent nationwide, which is significantly lower than Extraordinary Attorney Woo.
