AI-themed TVB drama AI Romantic <智能愛人> was a hit with viewers and unlocked a high rating of 19 points when aired in 2021. However, the drama’s executive producer Chan Kiu Ying (陳翹英) has apparently crossed over to competitor station ViuTV, where he is set to helm a new comedy series with a refreshing cast lineup that will include familiar TVB faces Jessica Hsuan (宣萱) and Philip Keung (姜皓文), alongside Cantopop group ERROR!

Brian Chu to Play AI Robot in New TVB Drama
With the warm reception and Ali Lee (李佳芯)’s robot character Ah Bo winning over adult and child viewers alike, TVB recently announced for a similarly themed drama to start filming in October this year, with rising actor Brian Chu (朱敏瀚) slated to play the lead male robot and actress Venus Wong (王敏奕) as his romantic interest.

Meanwhile competitor ViuTV, known for its exploration of taboo themes in dramas, has also started casting for a 20-episode local comedic series to be filmed on location in HK.

Centered on the story of a gangster past his heyday who amends his ways, veteran artistes Philip and Jessica will pair up onscreen as a divorced couple, while Leung Yip (梁業), Denis Kwok (郭嘉駿), Dee Ho (何啟華) and Poki Ng (保錡) of Cantopop group ERROR are set to showcase their comedic chops onscreen as triad members – in their next drama collaboration since 2020’s The Big Littles <男排女將>.

ViuTV to Jolt Memories with Comedic Spin on “Young & Dangerous”
Casting news that the four-member group will be starring as triad guys has jolted memories of iconic characters from nineties series Young and Dangerous <古惑仔>, where the brotherhood ties between young triad guys Chan Ho Nam (Ekin Cheung 鄭伊健), “Chicken” Chiu (Jordan Chan 陳小春) and their buddies Pou Pan (Jerry Lamb 林曉峰) and Chow Pan (Jason Chu 朱永棠) are still very much alive in viewers’ minds.

With last year’s success of variety program ERROR: Selfish Project <ERROR自肥企画> – its final episode even led internet servers to crash – anticipation is high for the talented quartet to create a new classic, apparently with a green light from the producer to perform freely.

ViuTV’s fortunes have soared in tandem with MIRROR’s meteoric rise, and the group’s huge appeal has helped unlock record ratings for the station with dramas such as Ossan’s Love <大叔的愛> . However, the 12-member band has since announced a two-month hiatus, following a concert accident in August which caused three dancers to be injured, with the most seriously hurt of them, Lee Kai Yin (李啟言) still in hospital facing daunting prospects of a prolonged recovery.
