Crystal Fung To Get More Likeable Role in “Sinister Beings 2”

Reportedly shelved by TVB for some time, 28-year-old former Miss Hong Kong Crystal Fung (馮盈盈) appeared to have appeased the management with her recent cooperative attitude and is set to revamp her image with a tailor-made leading role in upcoming drama, Sinister Beings 2 <逆天奇案2>!

No Dramas for Two Years
With a bright start to her showbiz career, Crystal was heavily promoted with ample opportunities on both drama and variety fronts. However, her candid and straight-talking personality also made her the subject of Hong Kong netizens’ fodder. While Sinister Beings <逆天奇案>, which she co-starred in along with Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) and Rosina Lam (林夏薇) achieved a 30-point viewership and became the most-watched drama of year 2021, Crystal was nicknamed “national temptress” by viewers, for coming between Ruco and Rosina’s well-liked pairing.

Crystal’s star waned when she was rumored to have treaded on management’s toes with three wrong moves including wanting to make her relationship with news anchor boyfriend Martin Chung (鄭衍峰) public (the pair has since broken up) and jumping on the NFT bandwagon without TVB’s knowledge. Stripped of many opportunities, she was “downgraded” from hosting large-scale variety programs to becoming a mere guest star, and was conspicuously missing from heavyweight dramas. She was finally paired with actor Karl Ting (丁子朗) for new drama You Are Not Her (transliterated) <妳不是她>, after an idle period over two years.

Originally rumored to be removed from the cast of Sinister Beings 2, Crystal did not rest on her laurels but instead returned to University of Hong Kong to pursue a Master’s degree. Amid talk that she was “frozen” by TVB along with actresses Andrea So (蘇韻姿), Iris Lam (林凱恩) and Ali Lee (李佳芯), she shared on social media that she had passed Chartered Financial Account Level 1 examinations, known as the “gold standard” of investing – evoking speculation that she might be eschewing the showbiz route for a career in finance.

Producer: “Viewers will surely like her!”

Making a U-turn with a softened stance, Crystal recently said in media interviews that pursuing her master’s was a “long-time wish” and that she had in fact requested leave from TVB to focus on her studies, adding that she will continue filming if schedules work out. “I did not disappear nor leave, the dramas and programs I filmed will be aired in time, on completing my studies, I will give everyone a totally new feeling so you can get to know me again!” Backing up her cooperative attitude with action, Crystal was totally hands-on during gameshow Not Very Funny <真係唔好笑>, even pulling a stocking over her head and sacrificing her looks for the show’s comedic effect.

Confirming that filming for the sequel will start next month with full return of original cast members, producer Lau Ka Ho (劉家豪) revealed while Crystal’s role this time round will have an increased likeability factor. “Crystal’s character will do her best to solve crimes and turn over a new leaf, the role will be very positive and viewers will surely like her.” Praising the actress for “high EQ”, the producer said she took the “National Temptress” label in her stride, and added that the actress has told him she will “do her best to perfect the role”.

  1. This girl is smart–like smart, smart. She capitalized on her youth and did the pageant and secured the most improved actress award. As she approaches her 30s, she secured a Masters in Finance to say the least. She already came from money and she also invested in NFTs. Most people interpret her to have a low EQ because she is outspoken, but that’s exactly what her celebrity persona is built from. When the paps insult her, she just keeps on living a more luxurious life. I actually she is even more successful than Louisa Mak. Looks wise, Crystal won. FYY is book smart too and she knows how to balance her life and investment portfolio.
