Nam Goong Min’s Drama “Lover” Embroiled in a Sexual Assault Controversy

South Korea drama Lovers starring Nam Goong Min and Ahn Eun Jun is being called for boycott after an extra on the set is accused of being in a sexual assault case involving that involved 12 other people. A netizen has spoken up about the incident and revealed how the incident led her two two daughters to commit suicide.

In a YouTube video, a netizen claiming to be a mother shared how her daughter was introduced to an entertainment company by her sister and received a supportive role. While working, the victim was sexually assaulted by 12 people which included the agency’s president and the casting manager.

The victim sought help from the police, the victim was further tormented by the perpetrators which led to her ending her life. The victim’s sister couldn’t bear the guilt and also followed the victim’s footsteps.

The netizen who claimed to have lost two daughters was furious that one of the perpetrators has been casted as an extra for Lovers and urged the public to boycott the drama. After the YouTube went viral, many netizens left messages of support and demanded that the employee involved in the sexual assault case be replaced.

In response to the accusation, South Korean network MBC issued a statement, “We take viewer’s concerns over the supporting casting agency for Lovers very seriously and have confirmed that the controversial personnel have visited the filming site. Taking into account the audience’s opinions and concerns, we swiftly banned the relevant personnel from approaching the work site. In order to completely rule out any future appearances, we have also terminated our contract with the management company immediately.”

Lovers is an upcoming historical drama that follows a man (Nam Goong Min) who vows to never fall in love again. However, his world gets turned upside down when he meets a woman (Ahn Eun Jun) who still believes in love even after two failed marriages.
