Wong Cho Replies to Rumors of Leaving TVB
After promoted to TVB Chief Creative Officer in 2021, Wong Cho Lam (王祖藍) created many variety shows boosting viewership ratings, such as Dub of War <好聲好戲> and Mommy’s Voice <日日媽媽聲>. Despite his successful shows, there have been rumors of discord between Cho Lam and TVB, with speculations that he has quietly left the station.
In 2021, Cho Lam allegedly had a quarrel with senior executives over Linda Chung’s (鍾嘉欣) loss in Best Actress for Kids’ Lives Matter <星空下的仁醫>. He had advocated for Linda, who is also close friends with Cho Lam’s wife Leanne Li (李亞男). Cho Lam was noticeably absent from the Anniversary Awards presentation that year. In recent months, Cho Lam and Leanne have been staying in China for work and rarely seen in Hong Kong.
Despite refuting rumors on several occasions, Cho Lam is indeed showing signs that he may be easing out of TVB involvement. His photo is no longer on TVB website’s artiste section.
With TVB General Manager Eric Tsang (曾志偉) recovering from stent surgery, Cho Lam has stayed in touch with him. Two weeks ago, Cho Lam even made an appearance on Super Trio <獎門人中秋感謝祭> to support the variety show. Commenting on his “disappearance” from the TVB artiste section, he explained that he made the switch to production work two years ago. He explained that he has not appeared at TVB station for sometime since his work requires him to travel often.
Asked to about speculations that he has resigned from his position as Chief Creative Officer, Cho Lam did not give a direct replay. “You can check the TVB website. What you see with your own eyes is the truth.” Contrary to rumors, Cho Lam also does not believe chairman Thomas Hui (許濤) and Eric Tsang will be leaving their positions.
