Wong Kar Wai Directs New Drama Starring Tiffany Tang and Hu Ge
Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wei (王家衛) will be directing his first television series in Blossoms Shanghai <繁花> which stars Tiffany Tang (唐嫣) and Hu Ge (胡歌). Adapted from a novel, the series reportedly took three years to film.
The series takes place in the 1990s and stars Hu Ge as a young opportunist with a troubled past who turns himself into a millionaire through his hard work. The drama follows his life and the relationships with the people around him.
A few days ago, Tiffany attended the drama’s viewing party where she shared her experiences working with Wong Kar Wei. Tiffany revealed that she and Hu Ge were very nervous when they were first casted and were very focused on listening to Wong Kar Wei’s instructions.
Recalling a funny incident, Tiffany shared that there was a time when Hu Ge asked if she understood Wong Kar Wei’s instruction and they both admitted that they did not understand anything at all! However, Tiffany was glad for the experience and was happy to see her and Hu Ge’s growth after months of hard work.
Tiffany also shared that the longest scene was filmed a total of 86 times in two days. In response, netizens teased, “This is Wong Kar Wai’s style!”
Many fans have high hopes for the series. Back in January 27th of this year, Hu Ge, Tiffany, Ma Yili (馬伊琍) and Xin Zhilei (辛芷蕾) promoted the series at the Starlight Awards and attracted more than 6.3 million netizens to watch the trailer upon its release. In the trailer, Hu Ge can be seen in character as the series follows his journey from his teenage years to his middle-age. While the three actresses were also praised, some netizens felt that Tiffany’s acting was subdued in comparison to supporting actress Xin Zhilei’s character.

“Tiffany shared that there was a time when Hu Ge asked if she understood Wong Kar Wei’s instruction and they both admitted that they did not understand anything at all!” So cute!!!!
Wow, I never imagine Hu Ge would be nervous too. I have been looking forward to this film for years… Must watch!!!
Typo: This drama…not a film.
I watched the trailer and it looks interesting, but it looks like they used a lot of Shanghainese which I don’t understand. I dislike reading subtitles – they also disappear really fast.
I’m very sure many viewers will have this issue like me. 🙁
I noticed that too and was quite concern…
I dropped this drama for the same reason (French – even I love the language & don’t understand it).
