Hu Ge & Tiffany Tang’s Bond is “Closer Than Lovers”

Starring as Ah Bao and Miss Wang in Wong Kar-wai’s (王家衛) Blossoms Shanghai <繁花>, Hu Ge (胡歌) and Tiffany Tang (唐嫣) enjoyed soaring popularity. While the two play unrequited lovers whose bittersweet ending tugged at viewers, they share an equally strong bond in real life!

Having Each Other’s Back On Life’s Journey

Friends for over 15 years and having co-starred in 5 dramas together to date, they first collaborated on 2009’s fantasy drama Chinese Paladin 3 <仙劍奇俠傳3>. Just a year apart, the two Shanghainese actors clicked well and quickly became exceptionally good pals. Tiffany addressed Hu Ge as “Old Hu”, while the latter would call Tiffany “Tang Tang” or “Gang Ning”, meaning silly. She once mentioned how Hu Ge took good care of her on set and would prepare all sorts of snacks for her so she could snack when she got hungry, while he mentioned he could always count on Tiffany whenever he wanted someone to hang with and they could go shop together.

The two friends also bore witness to each other’s milestones in life – Tiffany was the first to follow Hu Ge when he started his Weibo account. When he invited Tiffany to star in Xuan-Yuan Sword: Scar of Sky <軒轅劍之天之痕>, the first drama he helped produce, her company was dead against it as they felt that Cecilia Liu Shishi (劉詩詩) who was also managed by Hu Ge’s agency, would get a bigger role than Tiffany; nevertheless Tiffany went ahead in support of her old friend, even though her scenes were far fewer than Cecilia as expected.

Canceling all his work plans to attend Tiffany’s wedding to actor Luo Jin (羅晉), Hu Ge was asked to sing on stage at the last minute and gave his utmost blessings.

When she announced her pregnancy later, Hu Ge expressed his joy at becoming an “uncle” soon, calling himself part of “the bride’s family”. When the actor surprised everyone with his announcement that he was married with a daughter, Tiffany quickly expressed her congratulations in a post to “uncle and aunt”.

“Blossoms Shanghai” to Have Movie Version?

With Blossoms Shanghai ending its run on a high note, Hu Ge revealed that its director had approached him to discuss a movie version, and the very first thing he did was to call up Tiffany to let her in on the news. Tiffany’s immediate reaction was, “Will the movie version take years again?” caused him to break out in guffaws.

Hu Ge once quipped that when Tiffany laughs, the world will laugh with her. The two’s friendship can only be described as even closer than that of romantic lovers both onscreen and off, causing their fans much envy!
