Wallace Chung Plays Xiao Zhan’s Father

Upcoming Chinese costume drama The Legend of the Hidden Sea <藏海傳> is confirmed to star idol Sean Xiao Zhan (肖戰) in the leading role, with his father to be played by 49-year-old actor Wallace Chung (鍾漢良)!
Xiao Zhan will play Zhinu, the son of the Imperial Supervisor in the Great Yong Kingdom, whose entire family is wiped out on a fateful night. Awaiting his turn for revenge, he lies low for a decade, teaching himself political strategy before returning to the city with the pseudonym Zang Hai, to bring the murderers of his family to justice.
When news of the casting first leaked, netizens had responded with disbelief, surprised that Wallace —himself an A-lister among actors of his generation—would be play second fiddle to Xiao Zhan. As Wallace was youthful-looking for his age, and only 17 years older than Xiao Zhan, some of his diehard fans expressed unhappiness about the casting.
However, more cheered the move and felt that it was an excellent opportunity for him to start taking on age-appropriate characters, citing how his previous pairings with younger female leads was hard to digest and had been mocked as “father-daughter” pairings by viewers.
The Legend of the Hidden Sea also stars actress Zhang Jingyi (張婧儀) of Lighter and Princess <点燃我,温暖你> fame as female lead.

After reading so many rumours of Xiao Zhan next drama and pairing…at least this is real. Looking forward to it.
Could’ve had him at 17. Let’s not get carried away here.

WC will play XZ’s father when XZ’s role was a child – that was what I have read somewhere.
