“Queen of Tears” On Track to Break Ratings Records
Starring Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won, Queen of Tears aired episode 14 and achieved its best ratings yet at 21.625 percentage points nationwide. It is just behind Crash Landing on You, which currently holds the record as the highest-rated drama in tvN history.
Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won’s superior acting has captivated the audience and drawn them into their characters’ romantic story. Fans even overlooked the slight hiccup earlier with rumors of a romantic relationship between Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron when she posted and then quickly deleted a photo on them on her Instagram story.
In Queen of Tears, Hong Hae In (Kim Ji Won) suffers from terminal cancer and wants to divorce Baek Hyun Woo (Kim Soo Hyun). However, this along with other life events lead to realization of how much they love each other. Through a new surgery, Hae In has a chance of survival, but there is a great chance she will lose her long-term memory. Hyun Woo records a video for her and in the three and a half minutes, he delivers an emotional love confession leading the audience to cry along with him.
Screenwriter Park Ji Eun shared she had her heart set on Kim Soo Hyun being the leading man. When asked why, she confidently responded, “Isn’t he the best?” It is also said he had accepted a lower salary in order to film this drama.
The audience has also been impressed by Kim Soo Hyun’s acting ability. With crying scenes in nearly every episode, he showcased different levels of emotion from the feelings of oppression after marrying into Kim Ji Won’s wealthy family to the feelings of being at a loss when he learned that his wife’s condition had worsened.
