Hyun Bin and Lee Dong Wook Promote “Harbin”
Hyun Bin and Lee Dong Wook attended the 49th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) where their spy-thriller movie Harbin was selected as one of the Gala Presentations. The Gala and Special Presentations programs are recognized for celebrating the very best of contemporary cinema across all genres and styles, from all corners of the world. The pair and director Woo Min Ho attended a special interview session.
Hyun Bin sweetly thanked his wife Son Ye Jin for her support, “We’re both actors so she understands my work. Just being able to understand and accept is very important, so I’m very grateful for her existence. She supports everything that I do.”
When filming for Harbin, Hyun Bin had travelled with the crew to Mongolia. This was during the time that Son Ye Jin was pregnant. Many were concerned he would not be able to return to South Korea in time for the birth of his child. Afterwards, Hyun Bin clarified he had paused work and returned to South Korea early so he could be by her side.
In a change from his usual handsome image, Hyun Bin’s character is a member of the Righteous Army militia with a plan to assassinate the first Japanese Resident-General of Korea. In one scene where he was hiding from soldiers, he raised his head from a pile of corpses and his face is covered in mud. Many felt this was a big sacrifice and he finally reached a point of no longer looking handsome. Luckily, he cleaned up well for the red carpet.
