Cindy Au’s New Frugal Habits

In May, Cindy Au (歐倩怡) announced her divorce from her long-time husband, Roger Kwok (郭晉安). After the divorce, Cindy admitted to the media that she was “struggling financially and waiting for money,” and has since returned to the workforce.

Cindy: My Memory Isn’t As Good

On September 29, she hosted the HOY TV program Health Concern Group <健康關注組>. During a media interview at the set visit, she gave updates on her situation. “I write a lot of the scripts myself, but my memory isn’t as sharp as it used to be, so I make quite a few mistakes.” She admitted that she still needs time to adjust.

Cindy shared that she used to focus on taking care of her children, but now her attention is on work, which requires an adjustment too. “Now I need to focus completely on my job. It’s not like before when I could just take off and travel whenever I wanted. Now, I need to plan my time better.” When asked about what she is busy with now that she’s single, she said, “Cleaning! I have no idea where all the dust comes from.” She laughingly added that she used to be very meticulous about washing vegetables when cooking, but now she just rinses them briefly.

Feels Inferior to Former Classmates

Cindy also reflected on how she feels she wasted time in the past. “I didn’t use my time well to build my career. I was always going to class reunions, and at my age, all my classmates have high-paying jobs. I feel that besides being financially stable, they’re also more confident and articulate in social settings. I feel quite ashamed, like I’m a step behind them.”

She also shared that living alone has made her more frugal with her daily expenses. “I really did sell my car, and now I take the subway as much as possible. It’s fine. I try to save as much as I can when it comes to commuting. In the past, with kids, it made sense to have a car for more people, but now with the rising costs of parking, fuel, and tolls, it’s just too expensive.” When asked about the progress of her divorce proceedings, Cindy simply responded, “I won’t comment on anything else.”

  1. i m happy for Roger Kwok to get away this woman… He seem don’t even want to mention her name…

  2. Between a stay home mom and well off husband and kids vs. struggle to get by single woman trying to build a career, I would choose the former any period of my life easily.
