Yu Zheng Anxious to Renew Bai Lu’s Contract

Chinese actress Bai Lu (白鹿) established a track record of securing high ratings. Her upcoming dramas are anticipated to achieve the same, if not higher, viewership ratings and popularity. Her upcoming dramas include Northward <北上>, Moonlight Mystique <白月梵星> and Lament of the River Immortal <臨江仙>. In addition to her string of successful dramas, Bai Lu is also constantly at the forefront of headlines due to her romantic ties with costar Zhang Linghe (張凌赫).

Producer Yu Zheng (于正), who helmed the career of many successful Chinese actresses, has been credited with Bai Lu’s success as well. With her contract due for renewal next year, Bai Lu has yet to re-sign with Yu Zheng, prompting allegations of Yu Zheng’s displeasure with her. The company’s other highest paid actress, Wu Jinyan (吳謹言), recently announced her marriage and was spotted with a baby bump. Announcing that he will be producing a new drama starring Wang Xingyue (王星越) as the male lead, Yu Zheng passed the ball into Bai Lu’s court, alluding it would be her choice as to whether she wants to partner with the actor in the upcoming drama. Yu Zheng also seemed to be making a point by announcing his signing of a new actress, Katrina Zhang Wanying (張婉瑩), in a high-profile manner, hinting that he will be focusing resources at boosting Zhang Wanying’s career.
