Kenneth Ma and Samantha Ko Lead Wong Jing’s CNY Movie

Kenneth Ma (馬國明), Samantha Ko (高海寧), Carlos Chan (陳家樂), Dada Chan (陳靜), and Juliana Kwok (郭珮文) attended the opening ceremony on Friday, October 18 for the Lunar New Year movie Queen of Mahjong Pursuits <麻雀女王追男仔> (pending official English title), co-directed and co-produced by renowned directors Wong Jing (王晶) and Patrick Kong (葉念琛).

Samantha Goes After Kenneth the “Unlucky Scientist”

Featuring buxomly actresses from two generations, Samantha donned a form-fitting backless evening gown while Juliana showed off her cleavage in a low-cut, slit dress. In contrast, Dada wore an off-the-shoulder dress that was relatively modest. Both Samantha and Dada stated that they wouldn’t be taking on any sexy scenes, leaving that to Juliana instead!

Both first-timers of the film genre, Kenneth Ma and Samantha Ko are also pairing up for the big screen for the first time, Kenneth, who said he has only done cameos before, told media reporters that he is approaching this with a learning mindset and feels no pressure about the box office outcome. He also praised the script for having “warmth amid the humor” instead of being purely slapstick. Playing an unlucky scientist this time, Kenneth revealed “I’m pretty unlucky in real life, so it’s easy to play this role. The one thing I fear is playing a wealthy person, because I’m not rich myself!”

Samantha, who similarly feels no pressure as a first-timer, said her biggest takeaway was becoming good at mahjong, which she mastered on set! The 37-year-old, who plays a “Queen of Insurance” and pro-actively pursues Kenneth’s character, says she has never done so in real life. Asked if she will be promoted as one of Wong Jing’s leading ladies, she responded coyly, “How do you know I’m not!”

Dada Teaches Carlos How to Get Intimate

Acting together for the first time are Dada and Carlos – she plays an intimacy coach who helps guide the main characters during their intimate scenes! Dada divulged that she will look rather plain with minimal makeup in the movie. Not begrudging the lack of skin exposure, Dada says she enjoys the challenge as she “wants to try different roles”.

To inject an element of surprise, producer Wong Jing teased that a mystery “goddess”, who has over 1.5 million social media followers, will also join the cast! Carlos shared that she is an overseas star, and that his character will need Dada’s guidance for an intimate scene with her. When asked if he had informed his wife, Shiga Lin (連詩雅), he said, “I did tell her the general plot, but didn’t go into details about the extent of intimacy. She didn’t ask, but she probably expects some level of closeness. She understands, as it’s all part of wok!”

On his potential collaboration with Eliza Sam (岑麗香) on a new Hoy TV drama, Carlos said, “Negotiations are still ongoing. Once it’s finalized, we’ll announce it.”

Juliana shared, “I never expected to be filming both TV dramas and movies within just a year of joining the industry. I’m really happy and believe that I wasn’t chosen for my acting skills.” She hinted that her character will have different looks but isn’t sure if any of them will be particularly sexy. She added, “There probably won’t be any swimsuits. No one wants to see that since I’ve gained weight recently and have a little belly!”, adding that she was not given much time to prepare and get into shape for this role.
