Nancy Wu Addresses Criticism to “Rosy Business 4: No Return”

TVB drama Rosy Business 4: No Return <巾幗梟雄之懸崖> has premiered this week and many netizens are airing their opinions online. As the female lead in the drama, Nancy Wu (胡定欣) has attracted many commentaries about her costumes and her acting and she is not shying away from the criticism.

One of the highlights in the drama is the unique costumes. While Nancy’s character has a new costume every time she appears, some netizens mentioned that some of Nancy’s outfit resembles a Christmas tree.

When interviewed by Hong Kong 101, Nancy touched on the topic and said, “There is a suit and it really has a Christmas feel. It evens has a plaid pattern and a cloak. I think I hide gifts under the outfit. Everyone remembers this outfit so well so it’s a success. I believe that there is always a reason why designers used this pattern. [My character] has more than 30 sets of clothes. In fact, they have all kinds of styles and colors.  I think it’s great. Everyone remember them.”

Co-star Wayne Lai (黎耀祥) added, “That’s right. People won’t comment if they didn’t watch or remember it. So I thank everyone for paying attention.”

After having aired five episodes, some netizens claimed that Nancy copied Sheren Tang’s (鄧萃雯) acting style and pointed out that Nancy had very similar expression and movement. Nancy responded, “In every episode, everyone will have different comments after watching different scenes. Of course, before the drama aired or when it was filming, people will compare because the series is a classic. On the contrary, I would wonder why they are saying this and what I have done.”

Nancy continued, “I have always been immersed in [my character]. I act out my interpretation based on my understanding.  When they have this comment, I think of it as a reference. I know my approach and my execution the best.”

  1. I’ve watched a few episodes and I did notice similarities with Sharon but I don’t think it’s an issue as it does feel unnatural. I think it suits Nancy quite well. I just think the first few eps is extremely boring.

  2. It is the same era, almost same cast from previous installments, and she is playing a strong independent business woman who is husbandless, why would it NOT be similar to Sheren’s character? PEOPLE STOP pointing out the obvious BUT it is not the actresses fault

  3. The show is a mash of all the themes and elements that made the previous two installments work. They tried to make some scenes emotional but without giving enough context or character development to help the audience emphasize with the character. Not terrible but this really demonstrates that Tvb has no good script writer
