Vivian Hsu Reveals Cancer Scare

Nicknamed “Iron V,” Vivian Hsu (徐若瑄) has been tirelessly working and supporting her family since her teens. After announcing her divorce last December, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer earlier this year.

Overcame Initial Shock

She was shocked at the diagnosis but quickly decided to undergo surgery. She recently shared her feelings and health update on Instagram, stating, “Even when facing headwinds and slightly bumpy roads, we must live each day fully, keep moving forward with a smile, and leave no regrets!”

According to media reports, the 49 year-old shared that the cancer was detected at Stage 0 in her throat during a health checkup in early 2024. She was stunned for five seconds and initially found it hard to accept, asking, “Why me?”, having just gone through a divorce. Facing the situation positively, she was hospitalized for surgery the following day. The singer opened up about having to relearn how to use her voice, and also took singing lessons and physiotherapy post-recovery.

Vivian stated that she has always lived a healthy lifestyle, exercises regularly, and pays close attention to her diet. “Especially since my child is still young, I want to stay healthy and be there for him for a long time. A mother’s strength is resilient; I’m not easily defeated,” She shared that the family’s routine health checkups had allowed her to pick up the cancer early, and expressed gratefulness to the medical team for their care.

Confined to Bed Rest During Pregnancy

In the past, Vivian faced many hardships. She married Sean Lee (李雲峰), chairman of the Marco Polo Marine Group, in 2014. The following year, to have a child, she endured five months of bed rest and over 300 injections to maintain the pregnancy, unable even to get out of bed to bathe. In 2021, she recalled this experience, saying, “As someone always on the move, spending those five months bedridden in 2015 — eating, drinking, and sleeping all on the bed, especially needing assistance for certain needs — was challenging at first. I had to work hard to let go of my pride and overcome the mental hurdle, which then began my incredible life in bed rest.”
