37 year-old HK singer and actress Elanne Kong (江若琳) was recently hospitalized after she met with a traffic accident, which saw heroic members of the public going to her rescue.
Occurring at around 3pm on Friday, December 13, opposite The ONE retail mall in Tsim Sha Tsui district, a driver was believed to have lost control of the car, a KIA model, when making a right turn onto Nathan Road, and collided into a traffic light pole. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn on its left and its driver to be trapped at one point.
Bystanders to The Rescue
Members of the public who witnessed the accident quickly made a police report, while a group of at least six passers-by heroically went forward to the driver’s rescue as engine oil or water was seen leaking from the overturned car.
In videos taken, bystanders were seen lifting a man up the side of the car so that he could reach the left driver’s door, while a female voice could be heard shouting “I’m here!” in Cantonese. It is reported that Elanne had already been freed from the car by the time firefighters arrived, and had complained of a “headache and neck pain”. She was examined by paramedics and later conveyed to Elizabeth Hospital for further checks.
“Nothing Matters More than Being Safe”
In response to media queries, Elanne’s manager thanked everyone for their kind concern, and updated that she was fine. In an Instagram update at 9 plus that same evening, the actress admitted to feeling “very fearful” during the accident, but added that she has sustained only light injuries and has already been discharged.
Thanking the paramedics and civic-minded public who lent a hand at the very first instant, she shared that nothing mattered more than “being safe” and “going back home and reuniting with her family”.
