Tiffany Tang Pairs with Zhou Yiran in “Reset” Sequel

Post-84 actress Tiffany Tang (唐嫣), who has made a strong comeback with 2023’s Blossoms Shanghai <繁花>, the first TV drama directed by Wong Kar-wai (王家衛) which co-starred Hu Ge (胡歌), is rumored to be pairing actor Zhou Yiran (周翊然) in her next project!

Strong Production Team to Helm “Restart”

Currently filming urban drama Lady Liberty <獨身女人> with Mark Chao (趙又廷), reports suggest that Tang Yan’s next project will be Restart <开启>, a spiritual sequel to the 2022 hit suspense drama Reset <开端>, which starred Bai Jingting (白敬亭) and Zhao Jinmai (趙今麥). Despite a modest budget, Reset debuted with an impressive Douban rating of 8.2 and quickly gained traction with its gripping storyline, and ultimately amassed 2.4 billion views, making it one of Tencent’s most successful short dramas of 2022.

Reports indicate that Tencent is bringing back Reset’s original production team, including director Hou Hongliang (侯鴻亮). Restart will take viewers back to the 1970s for another time-loop adventure. Expected to begin filming around April–June, the male lead is alleged to be Zhou Yiran, who gained widespread popularity after starring in the 2023 romantic drama When I Fly Towards You alongside Zhang Miaoyi. 

Since her comeback in 2023, Tiffany Tang has starred opposite some of China’s most popular leading men. She played alongside Liu Xueyi (劉學義) in the fantasy drama A Moment But Forever <念無雙>, Joy of Life’s <慶餘年> Zhang Ruoyun (張若昀) in the suspense drama Light of Dawn <人之初>, and most recently Mark Chao in Lady Liberty. The sudden shift to having Zhou Yiran—a rising young actor—play her co-star in Restart has caught many by surprise.

The reason Zhou Yiran landed this role is reportedly due to Tencent’s strong support for him as an emerging talent. After When I Fly Towards You made him a household name, he quickly secured three leading roles in consecutive projects — romance drama Reborn <煥羽> with Zhang Jingyi (張婧儀), fantasy series The Message <十二封信> with Wang Yinglu (王影璐), and the recently wrapped historical drama Generation to Generation <江湖夜雨十年燈> with Bao Shang’en (包上恩). Now, with Restart, he is set to star alongside top-tier actress Tiffany Tang, which has led some netizens to sarcastically comment that his career trajectory is “unbelievably lucky.”
