Christine Kuo Appreciates Inner Beauty
Although best known for her role as Lynette, Law Ba’s ex-wife in Ghetto Justice 2 <怒火街頭2>, 29-year-old Christine Kuo (苟芸慧) is anything else but Lynette. Christine grew up in a very strict household, and as the eldest child of her family, Christine was also given the task to take care of her younger siblings. The reporter who interviewed Christine felt a strong “big sister” vibe coming from Christine’s body language and her choice of words. Christine’s strong and determined personality is truly different from the soft and tender Lynette!
Christine was born in Taipei, Taiwan on July 11, 1983, and is of mixed Korean, Japanese, Dutch, and Taiwanese aborigine descent. At a young age, Christine and her family immigrated to Toronto, Canada. She graduated from the University of Calgary, with a degree in business administration and accounting. Christine won the Miss Chinese Toronto title in 2008 and the Miss Chinese International pageant in 2009. She subsequently signed an artist management contract with TVB.
With her fresh looks and attractive body figure winning many male fans, Christine quickly earned the title of “goddess.” Christine is also very popular among endorsers and TVB producers. Since joining the acting industry in 2010, Christine has filmed a total of eleven TV dramas and five local films. Currently, she is filming A Great Way to Care 2 <仁心解碼II> with Alex Fong (方中信), Tavia Yeung (楊怡), Yoyo Mung (蒙嘉慧), Ben Wong (黃智賢), Edwin Siu (蕭正楠), and Aimee Chan (陳茵媺).
Christine enjoys her time in the entertainment industry. Her love for acting has grown exponentially over the years, and she finds the idea of portraying different people and characters as extremely intriguing. According to Christine, acting is a great way to escape one’s own boring and uneventful life.
However, the entertainment industry is not all rainbows and sunshine. Christine said, “When I first joined the industry, I had a time and goal in mind. However, I soon realized that it’s hard to get what you deserve in this industry. Working hard does not guarantee good results. The industry is all about luck, opportunities, and timing. As long as I finish my day’s work, and get to see my improvements, I will be satisfied.”
Christine has portrayed many professional roles in the past, but a role that she looks most forward to act in is a comedic role. “Comedic roles are challenging, and they can entertain the audience. The Hong Kong lifestyle is stressful, and happy times are few.” Asked about portraying an ugly character, Christine said, “I wouldn’t mind if I have to portray an extremely ugly character in a comedy. As long as everyone is happy, I’ll be happy and satisfied.”
No Plans for Dating
After breaking up with TVB colleague, 25-year-old Joey Law (羅天宇), Christine’s love life remained empty. She explained, “I’m working every single day. I don’t even have time for myself! However, I do spend my days with my crew. I guess I’m ‘dating’ them!”
Christine never really cared about the “looks department” when choosing a lifelong partner. “My mom taught us that people will eventually get old, so we should never judge people by their looks, and learn how to appreciate their inner beauty. It’s true – our looks will all change in twenty years. The most important thing is that he has a good heart, is mature, and filial.”
Christine On Beauty Care
Unlike many of Christine’s contemporaries, she does not put on heavy foundation makeup. What is her secret recipe on keeping a clean and smooth face? Christine smiled and said, “My grandpa had great skin even when he was 90 years old! My mom is also very careful when it comes to eating. At home, she usually cooks with pearl barley and honey. I am not a picky eater. From a young age, I’ve learned to eat blandly and drink a lot of water. I also take a lot of vitamin pills. But I am not always on this same diet. I am still young, and sometimes, you need to enjoy life.
“Thanks to my family’s genes, my skin is not bad. My skin has gotten worse recently because of I have not been getting enough sleep. Consistent makeup is also drying up my skin. Right now, I am trying my best to try and use as many beauty products as I can. I don’t have the time to do facials, and even if I do end up booking an appointment, my filming schedule is also tentative, so I usually cancel the appointment in the end. I’ve settled with just preparing my own facial masks at home.”
Christine revealed that she had absolutely zero knowledge of makeup until beginning her entertainment career in Hong Kong. “I didn’t need to put on makeup when I was living in Canada, but now that I’m in the industry, I must learn how to do makeup. I have learn how to style my hair and outfits. It actually takes a while to pick up!”

This girl looks beautiful but not exceptional 🙂
Anyway, is she the girl people in Hongkong stating her dialogs should be muted ?
in the pics she looks pretty but I think she’s OK. Saw her in a few series and she’s aighhhttttt
Christine is a rare beauty that comes to TVB recently but her acting and Cantonese are terrible. I understand why HK people wants her muted.
Eliza Sum only learn Cantonese recently but she’s already better than Christine and has better acting too.
Not everyone is good with languages or accents. There are many people who speak a foreign language everyday but can somehow never remove their own accent.
And isn’t Eliza Cantonese? So even if Eliza could not speak the language before, she may have been exposed to Cantonese much longer than Christine had. It’s much easier to pick it up that way.
But I do agree that Eliza has better acting… or maybe Hannah is very similar to Eliza’s own personality?
For some reason, I never found Christine’s acting to be improving.
Even if Hannah is similar to Eliza she still showed natural on camera in her first leading role.
I do envy Christine’s clear white skin. Her skin looks supple and she doesn’t have to wear overly thick makeup unlike a top fadan who wears thick makeup while potraying a maid in an ancient series.
I find both of them to have stiff acting. It’s just that Eliza’s “Hannah” is much more likable than all of Christine’s roles in the past lol
I do find Eliza much more charismatic though.
I do envy Christine’s clear white skin. Her skin looks supple and she doesn’t have to wear overly thick makeup unlike a top fadan who wears thick makeup while potraying a maid in an ancient series.
She spends money on this investement. FTW besides Linda she is the most beautiful Miss International Chinese
“she doesn’t have to wear overly thick makeup unlike a top fadan who wears thick makeup while potraying a maid in an ancient series.”
ROFL. I instantly can guess who that ‘top fadan’ with thick makeup is 😛
top fadan with thick makeup is superfunny!
The article is right that many so called top fadans now wear inches of foundation when Christine has natural good skin LOL
i think she is an better model than an actress, her acting is so stiff, not to mention her cantonese. she is like an beautiful vase.can only fit a limited kind of characters
i wonder why she didn’t try to break into the taiwanese entertainment circle. it’s much bigger than hk’s.
She only got recognised by tvb cos she won the Chinese international pageant. You need acting skills in Taiwan at least. She wouldn’t make it far in Taiwan
Uh.. Taiwan Idol Dramas are home of bad acting. Look, even Rainie Yang of the exaggerated and bad acting can win the Golden Bell award.
I think it’s quite hard to make it in Taiwan. They have much more celebrities there and all of them look as good as Christine.
It also amazes me why Rainie is so popular!
TW entertainment like cute looks. Christine is more elegant mature type. Nope.
To me, Christine looks beautiful, and her skin looks amazing, but her path will be more like Sonija kwok who was plagued with rumors and bad acting.
Eliza Sam, if she’s promoted rapidly, since she already has quite a leading role in her 2nd series, will be more of a Linda Chung, bad acting but cute with more affinity with the audience.
Sonija Kwok’s career is short lived too although she’s a beauty.
I reckon that Christine is way prettier than Eliza. For some reason I don’t find Eliza pretty at all. There are a lot of pretty actress. So in terms of goddess it should be Christine.
Plus both their Cantonese aren’t great.
I agree 100%
Christine and Eliza each has their own special qualities as they are different individuals despite some similar environment aspects. Eliza is more like a little cute girl while Christine looks a liitle more elegant.
Agreed. Eliza is like cuteness and Christine is elegance.
She has the x factor which doesn’t necessarily translates to great actress. Can be mutually exclusive but if it was a combination, it would have been a deadly one.
Some nice photos of Christine. I really hope she focuses on her accent and continue to work on her acting. If she can grow she could be a heavy hitter.
Agreed but for now nope yet.
she’s only 9 days older than me lol..
she is not young
“but a role that she looks most forward to act in is a comedic role”
She has played a comedic role before. She was in ‘Super Snoops’ and her character was quite funny at the beginning when she crossdressed as a man.
She also played a comedy role in that Bosco-Wong Cho Lam short comedy series about some magical chocolate.
Wow, didn’t know she doesn’t have any Han blood! At her age, I’m not sure she’ll have enough time in the industry to actually improve her skills.
The actresses do their own makeup? So it’s not the makeup artiists who caked the actresses faces, but themselves. lol
One would need extra coverage if their skin is bad. I guess it’s understandable. And, age is creeping up on them, too.
I think you need to get your facts straight. She didn’t graduate from the University of Calgary……
Jayne only translates the news, she doesn’t make them up. I also read she graduated from the University of Calgary, through correspondance.
i think she is the prettiest winner to come out of MCI. i really like her regardless of her enunciation, language is just something that will be picked up so im not picky about this. she has a charm the others do not.
alot of tvb actresses are avg at best but lack the special onscreen presence yet they are not being ridiculed, christine lacks the experienced actress title but she has a rare classic beauty and star quality. she’s able to turn heads with her looks. face it, everybody wants a goodlooking non plastic actress for some eye candy in a drama, plus a number others. christine adds variety to the mix.
Oh, her background is interesting. I find her very beautiful. Sometimes I wonder if it is a language barrier that makes her unappealing on television. I am not a Cantonese speaker, but I can feel the stiffness and awkwardness in her body language onscreen. In GJ 2, I thought she fared quite well as a professional woman because she looks well educated and refined. Also, she looked quite fierce when she was standing up to Wong Sze-Fu, in short, her acting is inconsistent.
She needs to work on that before she saturates too much of the media…well anymore.
Very pretty girl, but still not liking her.
She might have the beauty down pack, but her acting need to improve. Please, no award to give to her… -_-
Languages is not such a biggie, but she needs to know that she is in HK and they speak Cantonese, so she needs to practice it. Record yourself and then listen to it is the best way.
Very pretty girl actually. She can be a model. Why acting? Not suitable for her. glad that she’s canadian. But, her cantonese has to have some serious improving maybe a couple two years she will change. Doubt it.
