“The Day of Days” Jumps on the Fresh Bandwagon
TVB’s latest prime-time television drama, The Day of Days <初五啟市錄>, premiered on Monday, January 21. Promoted as a Lunar New Year special, The Day of Days follows the story of two rich families in Republican-era Guangzhou, who play influencing roles in the city’s turbulent political environment. Produced by Leung Choi Yuen (梁材遠), The Day of Days script is helmed by screenwriter executive Chan Ching Yee (陳靜儀), best known for her collaborations with golden producer Lee Tim Sing (李添勝).
Early Positive Reception
The first episode of The Day of Days generated positive reception. Viewers praised the lighthearted comedic aspect of storytelling and its strong supporting cast. Although the drama is dominated with many of TVB’s usual “green leaf” actors – such as Cheung Kwok Keung (張國強), Mimi Chu (朱咪咪), Timothy Cheng (鄭子誠), Law Lok Lam (羅樂林), and Li Shing Cheong (李成昌) – the fresh setting of The Day of Days has drawn viewers to tune in.
Similar to The Day of Days’ competitor Inbound Troubles <老表,你好嘢!>, netizens praised The Day of Days for its fresh cast and plot. During the broadcasts of predecessor prime-time dramas Friendly Fire <法網狙擊> and Missing You <幸福摩天輪> last month, netizens once complained about TVB’s lack of supporting actors and repetitive story lines in their productions. Mary Hon (韓馬利), a supporting actress in both dramas, was reunited with her sons (Sammy Leung (森美) in Friendly Fire and Jason Chan (陳智燊) in Missing You. Rosanne Lui (呂珊) played the mother of the two female leads in both Friendly Fire and Missing You. Cheung Kwok Keung played powerful High Court roles in both dramas as well. Viewers noted that they were often confused to which drama was on air due to the same supporting cast playing similar roles.
Just like Inbound Troubles, The Day of Days manages to scurry through the “repetitive” complaints from netizens. With the fresh collaboration of returning actors Sunny Chan (陳錦鴻) and Sonija Kwok (郭羨妮), as well as first-time collaborators Raymond Wong (黃浩然), Lin Xiawei (林夏薇), and Matt Yeung (揚明), The Day of Days brings a refreshing feeling to the Hong Kong audience.

Yes! Love Sunny and Sonija and all the green leaf actors. Matt Yeung is great too, looking forward to it!
TAVIA Yeung and Michael Tse’s chemistry in Friendly Fire was amazing but approaching the end, it was quite preditable and boring.
Saw the 1st episode. I actually thought it was a drama but the poster, the song all points to a comedy. So far it is funny. Quite enjoying it.
By the way Sonija has really really aged.
As far as plot goes, it reminded me of Rosy Business 2 except incredibly it is a comedy. It is funny though and I like the cast, all capable supporting actors. Lee Ka Sing is so funny as the sorta deaf guy. Hopefully it keeps up the momentum.
Sonjia really does not age well. I remember her in a step to the past with louis koo and she was a renowned beauty. I think she is the rare type of beautiful.
She is still beautiful but she looks too old for her own age.
heard her husband did not make a lot of money so she has to go back to work. So when people especially women have to worry about financial make them look older you know. No offense to anyone’s idol out here but I respect her for marrying out of love, not out of money like Gigi Lai ( she does not have to worry about money so she looks younger and prettier each day)or a lot of other actresses. Like I said not meant to create arguments here, just my two cents.
also Michelle Reis yeah i like her beauty but personality 0. She broke up so many families and she accepted she was wrong in one of her interview.
Sonija could have had any rich millionaire guy if she had wanted to but she chose her husband. Also for Kenix Kwok, she does have my respect.
Sophia,
I give Sonjia the clap too for finding her true love and marrying him, but Gigi’s case is a lot more tragic than what meets the eye. Yes, she did marry a rich man in the end but it was to help her brother. Also, I don’t think every marriage even has love as an element. While it is nice to marry your husband who is also your true love, some people still find happiness. As long as the two are honest, compassionate and trusts one another, why not be together?
I think the first time I saw her with Louis, I didn’t think she was very pretty or maybe I felt that she seem so much older than her own age and so much older than jess and Louis
Sonija is a classic beauty. I’ve always thought that she looks a lot older than she really is.
Just cause she looks more mature, I like to put it that way, doesn’t mean she isn’t a beautiful. She is indeed a classic beauty.
No, it was just the first impression, later on, I found she is quite a beauty, but her first impression on me was she seem a lot older, and because of it, it’s slightly harder to accept her in young role lol. I think there was quite a few drama where it’s like they r not sure what to do with her, so she’s always a young mother >_< which make it even more erhm… Confuse?
Crystal,
True.
I guess that’s what happens to most women when they have a baby. It’s the hormones during pregnancy that really are not kind to a woman’s body.
If you Wing Chun fans couldn’t get enough of it, you’ve got another thing coming.
Seems like in all of the new historical dramas, the only form of martial arts practiced is Wing Chun.
yeh i miss the good old fu like the budish palm,18stroke dragonpalm, the lady virgin strike, and the turtle shell.^-^
I’m so looking forward to this.
Did Raymond go, “Yeah~!” at the end of the trailer?
Watched epi 1 n all artistes kinda looked haggard n aged n yet d red car n yellow building as strong n youthfull as ever, TVB!
I love it cause the cast is really fresh! It’s not the same people you see over and over again Sonjia + Sunny!!!
Never noticed how bad Lin xia wei’s voice was until her scenes with sonija. Comparing them together, sonija’s voice is better
I thought she sounded different, younger. She looks mature for that role but I think so far she is doing well. A rather funny show, even if recycled.
Ihave been following the day of days series. Just watched episode 9 and found myself wishing that cilla kung`s character would just stop screaming every time she speajs. I’ve watched cilla kung in quite a few tvb series and notice that she screams all the time. Really quite annoying.
