[Breakup Files] Assistant Reveals Inside Scoop on Tiffany Tang’s Breakup with Roy Chiu

After an indicting post on Sina Weibo led to the revelation that Taiwanese actor Roy Chiu (邱澤) had broken up with mainland Chinese actress Tiffany Tang (唐嫣) after a two-year relationship, public condemnation against Roy has been hard and heavy. The Weibo post, allegedly sent by Tiffany’s personal assistant, accused Roy of keeping the relationship a secret out of fear of losing fans. Rumors have since begun swirling that Roy is a control freak and one time swore at Tiffany when scolding her, and that Tiffany was so head over heels for Roy that she once scrubbed every inch of his home.

Southern Metropolis Weekly found out through Tiffany’s publicity team that the Weibo user had indeed been Tiffany’s personal assistant for three years, and that she had taken on the job in the latter half of 2010. At this time, Roy and Tiffany were filming their first collaboration, the mainland idol drama My Daughter <夏家三千金>, thus giving Tiffany’s assistant a prime seat to observe their initial interactions.

The assistant likened their budding relationship to an idol drama, claiming that Roy could not take his eyes off Tiffany. He would often invite her to eat with him, as well as say romantic things to her, such as “No matter what happens, we must walk forward together, hand in hand.”

After Roy taped a picture of Tiffany in his race car in March 2012, netizens and the media began to suspect that the two were dating. Roy’s team insisted that he could not reveal the truth, because 70 to 80 percent of his fanbase was female. Moreover, Roy’s career in mainland China had only just begun to take off; they did not want his image to be destroyed.

Roy Was a Control Freak?

Although many celebrities keep their love lives a secret, Tiffany’s assistant still found the situation odd. She revealed that every time Roy and Tiffany had an interview, Roy would call a few days beforehand with countless instructions on what to say and what to wear. When the two advertised a makeup product together, Roy and his manager met with Tiffany to rehearse their lines.

Another insider shared that, when the two were filming their third collaboration, Waking Love Up <愛情睡醒了>, Tiffany accidentally hit Roy in the face when they were practicing a slapping scene. Roy reportedly became hostile, saying, “Do you have eyes? Can’t you use your eyes?” He even swore at her in Taiwanese.

Tiffany’s assistant shared that Tiffany put up with this treatment because she and Roy did not get to see each other very often, and she did not want to argue during the few chances that they did see each other.

Tiffany Was Roy’s Cleaning Maid?

Tiffany’s assistant also shared that Tiffany would always squeeze time to fly to Taiwan and visit Roy, even though he rarely let her leave his house, fearing that reporters would snap a picture of her. Tiffany was so in love with Roy that she once cleaned every single tile and corner of his home, even though she was unaccustomed to household tasks.  She even cleaned his toilet and laundry.

However, things took a turn for the worse starting December of last year. Tiffany’s assistant sensed that the relationship was dying down, because phone calls from Roy became few and far between. However, Tiffany was unwilling to accept that her boyfriend had undergone a change of heart and comforted herself by saying that Roy was too busy and tired from filming.

Roy’s Response

In January, many people told Tiffany that they had seen Taiwanese model/actress Tia Li (李毓芬) visiting Roy in Shenzhen. When the scandalous news came out, Roy sent Tiffany a text message to explain and said that Tia had visited only once. However, Roy’s manager later stated that Roy and Tiffany had broken up three or four months ago, implying that there was nothing out of the ordinary if Roy were seen with another woman.

Tiffany’s assistant claimed that Roy had never told Tiffany he wanted to break up and did not call nor sent a text message during Valentine’s Day this year, even though Tiffany waited the entire day to hear from him.

In the face of these many accusations, Roy’s only response was that he was “very sad and embarrassed about the way this relationship has been reported.” His close friends find the situation unjust and suspect that the rumors are part of a sinister plot, perhaps even started by Tiffany herself.

According to Roy’s manager, only some of the rumors are true. The manager also privately shared that, when two people have broken up, even previously sweet actions may later turn into reasons for complaints.
