Christine Kuo Denies Attending Paid Dinner Dates

In the past week, Hong Kong tabloids have “discovered” a new money-making trend that has been circulating for quite some time around the TVB starlets – dinner dates. A source from East Week dished that many rising TVB stars have frequently been traveling to mainland China to meet up with prominent film producers and wealthy business magnates. The starlets frequently attended dates with businessmen, and were even asked for a price.

Last Thursday, TVB sent Christine Kuo (苟芸慧), Oceane Zhu (朱璇), and Kayi Cheung (張嘉兒) to a spring reception dinner banquet hosted by 3D-Gold Jewelry Holdings in Shenzhen, China. The three beauty pageant queens were said to be showing off their busty career lines and kept the dinner guests entertained.

However, Cantopop diva Kelly Chen (陳慧琳), singing sensation Leo Ku (古巨基), and Eric Tsang (曾志偉), were also among the invited stars who attended the 62-table banquet that night. Is it possible that TVB also sent them to “please” sponsors?

In a promotional event held in Wan Chai yesterday, Christine Kuo dismissed the rumors of TVB sending their artists out on paid dinner dates, and shot down the tabloid claims as “absolutely ridiculous.” She clarified, “We (Christine, Oceane, and Kayi) are ambassadors of the brand. We have been so for the past three years, and we have attended all of their spring receptions.  We had a few sips of drinks when we toasted, but that was out of courtesy. Our managers were there to look after us, so I felt safe.”

Christine also denied that she was “asked for a price” at formal dinners. “I don’t know what it means anymore! Apparently the understanding I have of the term ‘dinner’ is not the same as what it is now implied.”

  1. I’m starting to feel for Christine- she’s always, and constantly surrounded by negative rumours and reports…life of a celebrity comes with a price.

    1. Clementine,
Maybe it’s Christine’s curvaceous body and the press equates her to being a sex goddess, thus the proliferation of these kind of reports.

      Sandcherry,
Christine is more popular than Oceane and Kayi combined among HK event sponsors. Christine gets around 2 to 3 promo appearances per week. And the big brands love her too! She filmed a PCCW commercial with Aaron Kwok 3 months ago.

      1. Good for her beautiful face and body. She’d better stay in that kind of roles and jobs, and makes good money. She is no good in acting.

      2. Yeah I agree with you Jayne. No one would ever know who is the source of creating all the noise and rumours that constantly follow her where ever she goes, but I can’t help but think how helpless she sometimes may be in defending for herself when they never go away lol. Promotion and noise would be considered as better than no noise at all, but nowadays with such power the media has, it’s hard to say whether or not noise is better than no noise or the other way around..

      3. You guys are very innocent. Many artistes purposely let reporters know about their routines and functions in order to get more news and publicity. Some even called the news media themselves.

      4. Sandcherry:
I’ve heard about that stuff happening and seeing it on reality tv shows, but I have yet to seen myself if these artists do it themselves. Its frightening if you think about how far humans will go just to gain that limelight.

      5. That is the “real life” in entertainment industries. Many artistes have to do it in order to gain popularity, especially those starlets. Of course, top fadans and siusangs will not have to do same.

      6. I don’t remember the media dubbing Kayi as one of the sex goddesses and she doesn’t seem to be promoted heavily by TVB. It seems like Kayi’s name is only heard when there are rumors and gossips.

Oceane and Eliza has more potential than Christine in terms of acting, but they are all beautiful in their own rights. I’m surprised that Christine would have a greater fee and more commercial opportunities since she seems to have the more reserved personality and less aggressive among the among three. Christine also joined TVB a year later after Oceane, but rising faster as she was nominated for Most Improved Actress in the TVB anniversary awards already.

      7. Kayi Cheung has never been highly promoted by TVB, nor Oceane Zhu.

Christine Kuo is just the luckiest one among the three. She is a bit “curvier” than the other two, and she is pretty too. Unfortunately, she can’t act and does not speak proper Cantonese in drama series. Perhaps she is only good in showing up in big events and promotions …….. pretty, sexy and does not have to speak much.

  2. Not sure if she was the one to create such negative rumours and reports. Since Oceane Zhu and Kayi Cheung also went with her, they should generate similar rumours and reports. Did we hear anything about the other two?

  3. Wow, I was hoping for something really juicy but this doesn’t seem like a paid date. I wouldn’t be surprised if I this was a real thing though.

    1. Not surprised at all if there are many paid dinner dates. It is a commonly well-known “thing” in the entertainment industry.

  4. remember there were huge advertisements in the streets/papers about charmaine.. for having dinner with her it will cost half million ringgit or something like that, linda chung was sidelined by tvb staffs because she refuses to have dinner with some men..

    1. Uhm, excuse me. It’s known that Charmaine doesn’t attend these social galas or dinners (Mingpao, even trash tabloid like Next/Sudden Weekly mentioned it before). Just because a tabloid publish the made up figure of wealthy tycoon or rich tai-tai’s willing to spend on dinner with their idols, it doesn’t mean these celebrities accept it.

      1. Not every one of them, especially top fadans. Usually the dinner dates are attended by new starlets. They need the money to do “packaging” or support their families.

No wonder Charmaine has not been hooked up with some wealthy businessmen. I was wondering why she is still single and unattached. Great, Charmaine! You earned your money by working hard in drama series.

      2. Sandcherry, a few years back when she was still dating Benny Chan (that loser), a well-known tycoon heir pursued her but she rejected him. That guy tried to woo her with yacht dates and even booked a Ferrari Black Pearl for her.

      3. Wow. My good and tough Charmaine. I know as I have never heard any rumours about Charmaine dating any rich tycoons. She earned her current financial status through hard work. She kept acting and acting until she was improved and established. I wish all new actresses would follow Charmaine’s approach.

Glad that she and Benny Chan broke up. Never liked Benny Chan. In fact, I felt so sorry for Charmaine when she was dating Benny Chan.

    2. i remember reading this on the news too. If i’m not mistaken it was some “auction” thing for charity.

  5. I’ve always never understood why people think Christine Kuo is hot. She looks anything but in that picture. And she has big boobs for a Chinese woman, but that’s about it. She’s on the chubbier side so it’s not that hard.

    1. Agree. She is on the chubbier side for a
female in Hong Kong, especially her thighs and legs. She always stood out as a chubby one among the girls in any dance shows. I could recognize her right away – the chubbiest one – at a far distance.

      1. Oh come on! Chubbier? She is VOLUPTOUS! Doesn’t that word ever exist in HK dictionary? Or are all women either skinny, thin, slim and petite? And then there’s chubby? She has a voluptous body thanks in part to her ample bossom which many HK actresses do not have. I can understand her appeal. Those who doesn’t probably doesn’t get that a woman’s body isn’t either slim or chubby and many of then aren’t even chubby.

      2. But that is not the typical figure of a female artiste in Hong Kong. You can call her “VOLUPTOUS”, but not to most women in Hong Kong. Moreover, people look chubbier on screen, so female artistes have to keep themselves slimmer.

      3. Which is why HK artistes perception of a female body is skewered!Voluptous is chubby, chubby is fat, fat is obese, etc etc etc. When these women looked pretty normal in person, I believe Christine would look very pretty in person with the right body type. The others skinny on film looks like lollipop head. Time to get around the whole looking like a pre pubescent boy woman and back to being a woman.

      4. Hongkong women don’t really care if they are VOLUPTOUS or not. They would rather be tall and slim. Only men love VOLUPTOUS women.

    2. She is Taiwanese!

No really, Taiwanese do not classify themselves as Chinese. Theyre highly offended by it. 🙁

      1. Christine Kuo is Taiwanese who immigrated to Toronto, Canada, with her family when she was about 12 years old. She speaks Mandarin fluently, but very little Cantonese when she was crowned Miss Chinese Toronto.

      2. So what do they classify themselves as? Because Chinese isn’t always nationality but rather race. Taiwanese is nationality but I stand to be corrected.

      3. I would not know the correct term, but I would like to ask, what are people in china called? China man? China woman? Lololololol.

      4. Taiwanese call themselves ‘taiwanese’ because taiwan is china free…so it would be incorrect to call them ‘chinese’. — voices from the mob of taiwanese people around me atm.

      5. Well, Christine Kuo was crowned Miss Chinese-Toronto in Toronto, not Miss Taiwanese-Toronto. I guess she had to admit that she is Chinese anyway.

      6. I think with those pageants, they throw the word chinese in there but i think the actual criteria is just as long as youre asian.

Well I wouldnt know, only that ive met a handful of ‘taiwanese’ who refer to themselves as ‘taiwanese’ and nothing else. Funny, I live with one. :p

      7. I think you are right, Crystal. My Taiwanese friends always call themselves Taiwanese. Chinese is a common term for people of Chinese origin. People in Hong Kong like to be identified as Hongkongers in Canada and people from Mainland China are classified as Mainland Chinese. We used to call ourselves Chinese until more and more Mainland Chinese immigrated to Canada. Their culture is very different from Hongkong immigrants.

  6. don’t like christine kuo, she’s into drugs.. one of the famous five in kenny wee case, she looks like a school teacher’s nightmare

    1. i think you’ve gotten the case wrong. she wasn’t part of the “famous five”

  7. christine kuo’s acting not good that’s why she need to attend paid dinner dates and more.. get what i mean, its not new in the industry

  8. Wow, TVB is in the “pimping” business.

I am glad they also found Eric Tsang to be useful in this new “business”.

    1. LOL well if eric is involved, we know this is no pimping dinner.

Christine seems really uptight, doubt it.

    2. eric papa san is busy making contacts with the rich potential investors through the help of his girls, no wonder eric was so protective of christine in kenny wee’s case, the girls are his bread and butter

  9. ‘aaron kwok dating christine kuo’.. this woman seems to be a big eater
