Eddie Cheung Complains about TVB’s Poor Working Conditions

Filming for TVB action drama Sniper Attack 2013 <神槍狙擊2013> is coming to an end soon. On Saturday, Eddie Cheung (張兆輝) and Kate Tsui (徐子珊) filmed a series of car chasing scenes by the Tai Po Industrial Estate. Chasing after a criminal with Kate’s black sports car, Kate had to suddenly stop the vehicle when a cargo truck slams in front of her way.

The actors filmed the scene without a stunt double. Asked why Eddie, who was sitting in the passenger’s seat, decided not to get help from a stunt double, Eddie laughed and said that he trusts Kate’s driving skills. Eddie compared Kate to an “action choreographer” and joked, “There is nothing to be afraid of. If anything, we’ll just crash.”

Known as the “Racing Queen” among her colleagues, Kate expressed that although she had experiences in car racing, she admitted that she was quite terrified during the shoot. “Someone (Eddie) was next to me! I got scared.” She added that the scene also attracted a lot of onlookers, and she was afraid she would crash into some pedestrians.

Eddie Cheung Running on 30 Hours Without Sleep

Although Eddie has already fully recovered from his ear injury, he revealed that his health is still not in the best of shape. “I think I’ve caught a cold. I haven’t been feeling 100 percent. Because production is coming to an end soon, my rundown sheet is packed. I started filming location scenes today at 6 in the morning. It will be nonstop filming until 7 at night, when I continue to film some studio scenes. That will keep going until 9AM the next morning, when I will go do some location shoots again. That will last all the way until night too. It is thirty hours in a row. Filming movies are not as laborious.”

Eddie then added in afterthought, hinting at TVB’s carelessness and poor treatment, “They don’t care about [us]. It is all about getting the mission done. How will anything good come out of it?

Sniper Attack 2013, produced by Kwan Wing Chung (關永忠), also stars Kathy Chow (周海媚), Michael Tse (謝天華), Alice Chan (陳煒), and Eliza Sam (岑麗香).

  1. If this is true, TVB should really take care of its actors and actresses. Their health should come first.. Without them, TVB can’t go anywhere. :3

  2. seriously – what is the freakin rush? can tvb slow it down and produce some good chit to us first?

    1. Do what Bobby Au Yeung did… fake death, and relax schedule.

      1. Bahahaha!

That’s actually not a bad idea, but the trick is to make it seem worse than it is, and that might backfire and cause serious injury.

I think TVB just sees these actors and shows as a production line that doesn’t need maintenance, but does need perfect scheduling.
I bet they were quite proud of themselves for getting so much filming done in such a short amount of time and never stopped to think about how the actors might feel.

I hope HKTV grabs Eddie since is is one of the best veteran actors in HK right now. Would love to see him and Felix in a show together as the leads. Cop/Detective show would be ideal.

      2. Its not mean, If TVB employees do not like their work schedule… Be like Bobby, for his health sake. You do not want to die at TVB studio when you overwork, and it has happen before.

  3. He’s not the 1st to complain about bad work conditions of TVB. Thought it would change with the new boss, but I guess not.

  4. THis is not anything new at all and Eddie should know that since he has worked for TVB for many many years before. We all know that TVB is a selfish and cheap company that does not care for their artists at all. They just want to get things done. I have always wondered if TVB has an insurance plan or health/medical plan for their employees??? I hope that they do or else they are beyond cheap and selfish.

    1. Well, I question if it has not become worse than in the past? We all know that TVB has a longstanding tradition for working their actors hard – however, so many returning veterans have complained. Considering that they should know better, it begs the question of if they have really forgotten, or if it has just become even worse?

    2. Yeah, TVB treat their artists as mere commodities and sometimes worst than “dogs & pigs” LOL

Ofcourse there are exception to this rule those who attend business dinners and/or have backings.

What I don’t get is why Eddie is filming for Very Bad again? Thought he was doing ok in movies.

  5. TVB only care abtv rating, no wonder so many good artists left.

    1. Fully agree with you, Agnes Tan! TVB, TVB, Please wake-up! Cherish all the good
      artists, please.

  6. Great… CTI you have a good opportunity to snatch Eddie away now.

It’s okay if they pay them good and the rush to get it done its understandable. The salary is low and expect you to do 200% it’s wrong.

  7. 30 hours straight?! This is not On Call 36 Hours and you’re actors are not really doctors TVB! These kind of working conditions are completely unethical and some kind of authority should crackdown on TVB for this kind of treatment. Jeez, when a veteran actually makes time to return you don’t go treating them lie this!

  8. Just wait til hk tv gets their license if ever. A boat load of tvb ers jumping off a sinking ship except the so called fadans and siusungs

    1. Eliza Sam’s best friend sure is an optimistic person.

  9. I love TVB drama, I have watched them since when, I didn’t even remember – too young I guess.
I just hope that TVB will take care of their artist, so that they won’t leave TVB, then I can watch all my fovarite actors/actresses starring in TVB drama

    1. I agree but it’s really up to the actors/actresses

      1. if they want to stay or leave tvb but it also depends on their managers and how tvb treats them:3

  10. i wonder if tvb is gonna warehouse this drama or put it in a bad timeslot it seems like a drama packed with action in it

  11. It isn’t the first time there are complaints about the bad working conditions in Txb. But they can’t change. The policies are making Txb worse and worse. Oh don’t mention of the quality of the series.

  12. @ eddie cheung, i feel that tvb is just a school for actors, don’t go back once you’ve established yourself elsewhere, you have paid your due while working for them in your youth, you don’t owe them anything

  13. Seriously, I have liked Eddie since the 80’s. If my dear Eddie comes to any harm while filming due to TVB’s negligence, I will boycott TVB until he fully recovers!

I always think of the chinese saying “Slowing down creates a finer product.” I hope TVB will take more time in safety precautions, developing the script and editing. Yu Zheng should also do the same cos he wrecked “Swordsman”.

  14. Yeah, wondering why this guy came back n film series. Doesn’t he run a successful on diet or whatever kind of empire?

    1. He’s doing it basically to repay TVB (so pretty much out of loyalty). He doesn’t need TVB at all– he films often in Mainland, he’s sought after in movies, and he has his own beauty products business that has been doing very well. So basically, he’s doing TVB a favor….if TVB doesn’t treat him well, he could walk any minute.

  15. Eddie, go to mainland like Kevin Cheung, Bosco, etc!!!! Of your talent, you will make more $$!!

  16. The key here is production is coming to an end. There are not working 30 hours regularly. They are probably rushing to finish to give the studio to the next production. TVB should either build more studios or manage the studio schedules better.

    1. Um, no…that’s actually their regular work hours..it’s been that way since back in the 70s/80s, but got worse over the years due to all the politics….TVB has always been known as a slave shop.

He probably should go to HKTV….not only is his buddy Felix over there, HKTV also limits artists work hours to 8 to 12 hours per day (they follow what we do hear in the U.S. pretty much)…

  17. Sad to hear that actors and actresses have to work so hard. Hope TVB will be more humane. Earning money does not mean TVB can abuse people’s health.

  18. Overworking artists have been going on for a long time now and it is sad that TVB is still so Totally VERY BAD!!! When will they ever learn??
