Lawrence Ng Shows Poor Conduct at “The Hippocratic Crush 2” Set?
Lawrence Ng’s (吳啟華) return to TVB after a seven-year absence made many fans clapping in anticipation. Best known for his iconic role as the neurosurgeon Dr. Paul Ching in the award-winning Healing Hands <妙手仁心> franchise, Lawrence’s reprisal as a doctor in The Hippocratic Crush 2 <On Call 36小時II> will definitely provide a nostalgia for many loyal fans of the former medical classic.
According to recent rumors, Lawrence’s former glory as the noble and romantic Dr. Paul Ching has now been tainted by his poor professionalism on the set of The Hippocratic Crush 2. A crew member from the set of the drama complained that Lawrence was always late to the set. The source said, “A crew member said that he is always late to studio bookings. He’s was two hours late before. Although he is a professional actor, and rarely commits outtakes, he is always late and that ruins the entire run down schedule of the day. The crew is not very happy with him.”
Another source claimed that Lawrence is also not impressed with his costar, Kenneth Ma (馬國明), the star of the last The Hippocratic Crush installment. Lawrence allegedly talked behind Kenneth’s back with Kenneth’s close acquaintances, exclaiming that Kenneth’s acting is very wooden and that his TV King win in Malaysia last year was a complete joke.
In regards to Lawrence’s poor conduct, Kenneth said that he has never heard of such rumors. “[The rumor] said [Lawrence] criticized my acting, but I’ve never heard it with my own ears so I won’t believe it. Even if he really does think my acting is bad, I believe that he is giving me a lesson and not criticizing me. As for his tardiness, I am not sure, because I’ve only had a few scenes with him so far.”
The press also failed to contact Lawrence for comment. Lawrence is reportedly not in Hong Kong at the present time.

he’s still an actor nevertheless and he’s only chipping in an already successful series. if he really did diss the true lead of the series behind the lead’s back that’s a very bad conduct from an experienced actor and fellow colleague.

Since Healing Hands. Actually his acting was praised the very first time when he did a very convincing villain Liu Bong.
I guess you did not watch much of his series back then Kiki. His best known role is probably the role in the Grand Canal as Yang Guang. He was more known for his villain roles rather than any of the good roles.I liked him in Bi Xue Jian as Li Yan too which was one of the new good roles that he played back then.

lawrence sounds like diva. never fond of him intruding into in call 2 in the first place and stealing kenneth’s screentime. now much worse if these are true. can’t stand latecomers and those who b*tch about you behind your back.
It’s interesting to know that while filming Txb series, there is always an internal source to say that at least one star in the series come late. But the answer from the crew is always the same: “No I don’t have trouble with blah blah blah, we are good”.

It doesn’t matter if he’s late, badmouthing others, etc. Fact of the matter is he’s widely acclaimed for his role in Healing Hands and TVB begged him to come back. So he can do whatever he likes. Unprofessional? Maybe, but so what?

When Lawrence left Txb, Txb was like “We don’t need him, we won’t never call him back!” But look at wat happened? Txb is likely begging him to be back and reprise his Paul Ching. So when Txb is pathetic, even if Lawrence is unprofessional, they dun ever dare to complain. But it’s easy to foreseen that Txb will use alternative way to give Lawrence bad light even if he isn’t that bad in order to teach him a lesson. Anyone who isn’t obedient to Txb will have that treatment, nothing special.
I think Lawrence Ng is very good and professional actor. His acting is a lot better than KM and he is so popular that he does not need to talk something bad about KM. Despite He is older than KM he still looks young and handsome like ten year ago. I am looking forward to this series just for Laurence Ng not for KM.
Talking behind others back seems like a very childish thing to do and with Lawrence’s maturity I highly doubt he said anything negative of Kenneth. Ppl who paid attention to this work attitude would know he’s a very laid back guy.
Also it’s not Lawrence’s fault his screentime is equal to Kenneth’s, he’s not the writer who wrote the script nor the producer who casted him.

I doubt that Lawrence wanna badmouth his colleague. He has waited many years to have a leading roles so he really can understand the feeling of kelefe which helped him to have high EQ. I have never seen him saying foul words or smearing before, means he is carefully with anything he said it out.
Btw, even if he really said that MM’s acting is wooden and the AOD award MM has was a joke, so why it’s badmouth? It’s like “criticism” more, isn’t it? Badmouth should refer to something which is completely different to the fact while acting is subjective. What’s wrong if he thinks MM is a wooden actor? We are saying A is wooden, B is wooden, etc. everyday, does it mean we are badmouth them?

I would like to add:
Being in the industry for a long time is a factor, Lawrence’s normal attitude is another factor. I’d like to echo that it took Lawrence years before he had the promotion of Txb although his acting was praised quite soon. So if he likes to badmouth others, he had more chances to do it in the past as there were reasons for him to be jealous and badmouth. However he didn’t do anything, even when he was ignored by Txb and when he was heavily promoted by Txb. It’s pointless to do it just now, he didn’t need to do so. It’s obvious that Lawrence and MM are not in the same page. In short, there is no reason for him to badmouth MM or any junior.
As for MM’s acting, although he isn’t too bad, he isn’t good at acting as well. I find his reactions are too OTT, and sometimes quite wooden in showing emotions, partly due to his “gwing” face whenever he wants to be “cute” or “pitiful” or “shocked”.
And his eyes dun show much emotions, that’s what I don’t like in him. He is best at do “puppy” face as it suits his “gwing”.
MM’s acting skills still have a lot of rooms for improvement. I basically love him as Cheung Yat Kin and that’s the best role to see him in. Regardless of whether he’s a good actor or not, he does Yat Kin’s role nicely!!!!
I agree with you Lyle and have like Lawrence since the 80s and he does NOT sound like that type at all from what I have heard and known through the years. I wonder if this reporter over exaggerated or something?? I think Lawrence should know better not to act this way.
Yup…to be honest, I’m actually starting to see a pattern here because many of the veterans who came back (or are coming back) have negative news written about them recently (Veronica Yip, Eddie Cheung, Kathy Chow, just to name a few)….I’m willing to bet that when Dayo Wong actually starts filming his series in a month or so, negative news will come out about him too. That’s the way the HK Media operates…they specialize in stirring up crap because they can (there’s an audience for it)…besides, it gives them (the Media) job security… :0)
Glad that you mentioned that because I am starting to see a thread for all of the veteran actors and actresses that are coming back and have been back. Strange… I thought that TVB would be grateful to all of these veterans that are coming back to film for them. However, it does not seem that way and they had better treat their veterans and anyone filming for them fairly and well before they regret it when new stations emerge soon.

I support Lawrence don’t get influence on negative and unsupportive news – this to me is not fair to Lawrence.
I am looking forward to this series just for Lawrence and Tracy. Lawrence left tvb and with his many years of experience at tvb – why does he need to talk bad about someone or buy tea to get benefit? He already left tvb for 7 years so he doesn’t have to act this way.
I am tired of the same actors and actresses in every series such as Myolie, Tavia, Kate, KM, Raymond, Kevin… I seriously don’t think any of these are good even they got the awards winning (because they have no1 else to give it to) I seriously only watched a few episodes in most drama and then stop. I missed all the people from the 80’s or 90’s. Tvb’s scripwriter and actors/actresses sucks. I rather watch china, korean, taiwanese dramas.

Kenneth is so classy.
I never really liked him before, but he is growing on me and his acting is definitely improving with each series. That is rare in TVB.
I think he is obviously more comfortable with certain roles and you can see it in his acting, with time he will become comfortable with all types and less “Wooden”.
He is my current favorite “crazy bad guy” actor at TVB lol. He seems to really get into those roles. You can tell he loves playing them and is having fun.
Lawrence just sounds like a jerk. Is it not enough that Kenneth took a scene /script cut just to accommodate him? He still has to bad mouth him and be late to the set?

I’m actually quite surprised by the response from this kind of news. Like, are you guys not seeing the trend? Every veteran actor/actress who comes back for TVB, there is always some kind of ‘news’ that they have bad habits, gossiping etc etc. Too much of a coincidence? I think not.
Also, I am amazed by how many people are unaware that Lawrence coming back to film this series is more to help the actors/actresses in this series to gain further recognition. Lawrence, I believe is known in Mainland. Having him in headlines and what not definitely helps the series and who ever starrs in it to gain even further recognition outside of the HK industry.
I notice that they only aware that Lawrence takes screentime of the “original cast” but is it Lawrence’s fault at all? I say “no”. They put the blames and bashes on Lawrence without thinking of the intention of Txb when adding him in – using Lawrence’s recognition not only in China but also in medicinal film area.
Like I’ve mentioned, the bad news of the non-kids is a way to promote the Txb’s beloved kids. Out of all, Txb will still promote their true kids more than the “outsiders”

Oh and by the way — fans of THC and the Kenneth/Tavia pairing in the series should actually THANK Lawrence because he really was the one who prevented TVB from doing a ‘love triangle’ storyline between him, Tavia, and Kenneth (which was one of the ‘ideas’ that TVB originally threw around). Fans of the series didn’t want to see the Yu-Tao pairing torn apart (many of them hounded him on Weibo at the time) and so Lawrence talked to TVB execs and even threatened not to film the series if such storyline were to be included. So um, yea…sad that some of those same fans are now dissing Lawrence for ‘stealing’ Kenneth’s screentime….

He was quite good as the villain in earlier TVB series before becoming too ‘wooden’ in goody two shoes roles.
But Kenneth does show good professionalism in his answer. And he has never been wooden in his acting at least imho.

Considering he was already a well known leading man when he left TVB, there isn’t much difference in his status to warrant a huge change to diva attitude and personality problems don’t spring up overnight. People who are rumoured to be hard to get along with (irregardless of their reason being honestly a diva or.. disciplined, religion, loner, straightforward, obtuse, westernised, hot tempered..), frequently have rumours plaguing them.
Leslie cheung (bless him) said that he argued with Kiki Sheung on set. 30 years down the road, who hasn’t dealt with Kiki Sheung’s straightforwardness? I can easily name 10!
As he is no longer attuned to TVB’s renowned hours and messed up scheduling, rumours of being tardy have at least a little credibility, but rumour-mongering? Belittling his co-stars? I do not believe it. Furthermore, he’s starring opposite Tracy Chu, 100% newcomer. The disparity between the two should make Kenneth look like an Oscars winner.

The answer is no — Lawrence has always been known for having a good personality and being easy to get along with (which is part of the reason why he is well liked and has so many friends in the industry). That’s why when I read those comments about him dissing Kenneth, I already knew it was probably made up by the Media (everyone — keep in mind that the above article came from a tabloid).
With that said, I’m not surprised that a tabloid would make up such news because it’s easy for today’s audiences to believe, since most of them aren’t as familiar with these veteran artists (most probably weren’t even born yet when Lawrence and the other veterans started in the industry). It’s especially easy to spread negative news about the veteran artists who haven’t been filming in HK for a long time…it’s actually quite a shame, since most of these veterans come back to do a favor for their friends or the company they used to work for and they pretty much get treated like dirt.
And speaking of Leslie — the crappy HK Media tactics was exactly the type of stuff he denounced in one of his famous award acceptance speeches that he made back in 2000/2001 (he was obviously fed up with the endless ‘beatings’ he had to endure from the Media)…sadly, the HK Media hasn’t changed one bit….
Good points llwy12 and yea, although Lawrence often played villians in the past so many did not like him much on screen. However, his personality in real life is great and many like Lawrence very much so I don’t get why there is suddenly news of him not getting along with Kenneth??
Exactly, I bet many on this forum were not even born yet when Lawrence and many other veterans graced the small screen at TVB back then(gosh, I sound so old saying that) so don’t know much about Lawrence and other veterans. I am so shocked that many veterans are coming back to film as a favor for TVB or their friends but get treated so badly. It is not a wonder that Andy, Chow Yun Fat, Carina and many other famous veterans are sooo hesitant to come back to film for TVB. They are just ungrateful and treat everyone so badly!!!

Lawrence does NOT need TVB at all. They need him and they should be happy and glad that he came back to help them out. Lawrence is already really well known in China and has many friends from the circle that think highly of him. Therefore, I was shocked to hear this piece of news saying that he has a diva attitude. Somebody may worries that Lawrence will overshadows KM and gets TV King this year that they make up this news to put fans against him and will not vote for him to be TV king or giving this news is one of some tactics used to promote the series.

Maybe not the most famous actor but definitely more famous than anyone else in the cast. So even if he is only 4-5/10, it’s still better than 0-1/10 (10 is max score for fame in China).

This is all just hearsay. There’s no evidence as to whether Lawrence really was late or whether he really spoke poorly of Kenneth’s acting. Why should anyone believe the crew member and the other ‘source’?

Oh it’s a very good example :D. Sammul was supposed to be the lead in Survivor law but in Survivor Law 2, his scenes were given more to MM. Guess that by Sand’s logic, we should bash MM.

That is normal, if you like any celeb or even anyone you know in real life, you will always side with them and go against another person whom you think is causing harm to them… I have heard about Lawrence and have liked him since the 80s, so have a good idea about how he is and he does not seem like that type. However, for people who don’t know much about Lawrence will automatically think he is being arrogant or throwing off the diva aura.
