Liza Wang Turns Down New TVB Drama with Bosco Wong

Liza Wang (汪明荃), has turned down a new TVB drama offer that was allegedly meant to be the third installment of the Wars of In-Laws <我的野蠻奶奶> series.

Wars of In-Laws, was a household hit and won the 2005 TVB Best Drama award, successfully propelling the careers of Myolie Wu (胡杏兒) and Bosco Wong (黃宗澤) to another level. Main star Liza also triumphed with a Best Actress win for her role as Bosco’s mother, Princess Sheok Lan, in the period comedy. In addition, the drama brought Myolie and Bosco together as a real-life couple.

The in-the-house trio teamed up again for 2008’s Wars of In-Laws 2 <野蠻奶奶大戰戈師奶>, a modern-day retelling of the serial. Another established hit, TVB planned to bring the profitable team back together once more for the third installment, but after Myolie and Bosco’s much publicized split last year, the Wars of In-Laws production team decided that it is best to not bring the ex-couple back together for now.

The intended sequel, The Vinegar Wife <醋娘子>, originally had Liza and Bosco cast as the main leads. Liza confirmed this news during an earlier interview, but revealed that she had to turn it down due to a schedule clash. “[TVB] did some preliminary talks with me, but in the end I had to turn it down because I will be working in Canada.”

Liza expressed that The Vinegar Wife should not be considered as part of the Wars of In-Laws series. “This time, it will not center about the jealousy between mother-in-laws and daughter-in-laws. It will revolve around the real vinegar that we eat.” (In Chinese, ‘eating vinegar’ and ‘jealous’ are homonyms.) “The story is completely different from the previous two installments.”

  1. I hope the vinegar wife doesn’t turn out to be a flop like river of wine.

  2. It sounds as if Liza turned it down because of Bosco doesn’t it? Sensationalised news. This woman needs her rest and she has accepted other jobs. It isn’t personal since artistes routinely turn down roles. Vinegar wife? As in a very jealous wife?

      1. yes actually hate both liza and bosco acting and as persons! sure flop! hope the series cancelled! boo!

  3. Wait… Liza is going to be working in Canada? Anyone know where?

  4. Liza is still looking beautiful and young at her age she is mid or end 60++ I guess.

  5. The title is really misleading and can pass as a slander to Liza and Bosco. The article said otherwise since she turned it down because of her schedule clash. Jayne, is that the original title or is it just sensationalized by the translator? If it comes from the press, boy they sure know how to strike discord among readers and fans. The last thing I heard from news was Liza had just visited Bosco on set in Hengdian. I don’t know if Liza visited Ray too.

    1. RayLeilaFan,

If the title read as “Liza Wang Turns Down Drama Due to Bosco Wong,” then it would be slander. However, the current title, “Liza Wang Turns Down Drama With Bosco Wong” is meant to highlight that this series has the intention to cast Bosco, for any Bosco fans who may be interested in the news.

The article contents do not have any negative remarks made towards Bosco.

      1. It is not slander. I think Jayne would be more worried about other articles which talked about gossips worse than this. It is slander if it continues with the why and point out due to Bosco’s whatever and however.

  6. Curious who they will have in mind to pair up with Bosco (since they said it’s too early to bring the ex-couple back) if the series does begin filming.

  7. I’m so over all these sequels unrelated to the original, or sequels, full stop. Come on TVB, time to inject originality and creativity into your productions.

  8. I read somewhere on some tvb facebook page that Bosco will pair up with Eliza and Michelle Yim will act as Bosco’s mother.

  9. Never liked Liza Wangs acting- she overacts big time and yet pretends to have talent. How she has managed to stay in the business for so long is beyond me, even with her exalted status and connections at tvb. Among the mature generation of tvb actresses, there would have be be plenty who rank ahead of her: Michelle Yim, Susanna Kwan, Mary Hon…
