Blue Lan Turned to Heavy Drinking Due to Stress

Two months ago, Taiwanese actor Blue Lan (藍正龍) finished filming the idol drama Chocolat <流氓蛋糕店> with Japanese actress Masami Nagasawa (長澤雅美). Recently, a staff worker revealed that Blue demanded an exorbitant fee for appearing in the drama and that he was often in a sour mood on set. Not only that, it was also rumored that he used the excuse of seeing a psychiatrist in order to take a day off from work.

Although Blue has often been the target of negative press during his past filming projects, it initially appeared as though filming for Chocolat, which lasted five months, went rather smoothly. However, news recently came out that Blue requested to be paid 450,000 TWD for each episode, a demand outrageously above current market conditions. It was also reported that he was extremely emotional on set and often looked like he was in a bad mood, because he had to accommodate Nagasawa’s filming schedule.

Most shocking was the rumor that Blue would film for one day and then take the next day off, claiming that he had to see a psychiatrist. However, his manager, Billy, refuted these rumors.

“There indeed was a period of time when [Blue’]s mental state wasn’t very good, but he did not randomly request a leave of absence.” Billy added, “We have encouraged him to visit a doctor, but he turned down the offer. He hopes to relieve pressure through exercise and more rest.”

According to reports, Blue’s health has suffered from being overworked in the past two years. A health examination from last year revealed that his liver index was high and that he also had stomach ulcers. Blue has also admitted that he was prone to heavy drinking at the time because of the immense pressure; he carried a bottle of whiskey with him and would often get completely wasted after filming. He reportedly suffered from insomnia as well.

Billy shared that, starting next week, Blue will be studying in New York for a month, in hopes of regaining his health. A vegetarian for ten years, Blue has also resumed eating meat for health reasons.
