Sheren Tang Lacks Team Spirit by Criticizing TVB Publicly?
Since Sheren Tang (鄧萃雯) publicly criticized TVB for poor filming conditions, many watched closely as the two parties engaged in a war of words far more sensational than the currently aired Beauty at War <金枝慾孽貳>. Earlier this week, reports alleged that Sheren’s public outlash enraged TVB, putting the actress at risk of being “frozen”, or suspended, by the company. Acknowledging the rumors, TVB’s General Manager Mark Lee (李寶安) chastised Sheren for damaging team spirit by denying responsibility for Beauty at War‘s failures, and angrily stated he would not collaborate with her further.
Today,TVB’s Assistant General Manager Peter Au (區偉林) clarified the current situation, and insisted it is only temporary. “Don’t use the term ‘force out’. It is like having an argument with family. It’s best to not say too much, and rest for a bit. [We] didn’t say we won’t collaborate [with Sheren]. We just want to deal with this matter first. We wish this didn’t happen at all. Team spirit requires a common goal. Sometimes team members must sacrifice their beliefs and honor to reach that goal. The company does not wish to see its artists express personal opinions via the media. We shouldn’t write off others’ efforts, nor use only ratings to gauge success or failure.”
Former co-star Wayne Lai (黎耀祥) also commented on Sheren’s situation. Wayne shared that he rarely keeps contact with Sheren, and does not believe the suspension will hurt her career. “If [they] can’t work together then don’t. Sheren has jobs lined up. She would not be terribly affected by the suspension. TVB is free to choose the people they would like to collaborate with.”
Wayne added that he has not seen Beauty at War and therefore cannot comment about the series’ problems, but noted people’s right to freely express their personal opinions. “When a reporter asks me about [Beauty at War], I would always try my best to answer and express myself. We cannot fully understand someone else’s idea of right and wrong. It is important to have our own opinions.”
Eddie Kwan (關禮傑), who starred with Sheren in the controversial series, showed support for his colleague during a radio interview. “[Sheren] is very straightforward. It may be because she studied overseas, and was successful very early in her career. Sheren has actually changed a lot after becoming a [Christian]. Sometimes what she says does not completely express what’s in her heart.”

Finally, someone to publicly support Sheren.
It is TVB who lacks 人情味 forcing their artist to work overtime
(average of 20-22 hrs/day), with less pay. So Cheap.
TVB is famous for that so it is no wonder that after anyone gets famous, they dump TVB and go to China or anywhere that they can go with better treatment and pay. I wonder IF TVB will ever learn??
tvb don’t use their brains
I think Sammul Chan and Felix Wong are perfect examples of TVB’s way to treat people who speaks on things that are on their mind.
Felix walked out himself. I feel Felix is the only ex TVB star who can talk trash about TVB and TVB will humbly nod their heads and go “You’re so right, we humbly agree”.
I don’t think that happened.
And I do think that if people who are close to him uses friendship cards (like Michael Miu)… that could bring him back.
But it’s unlikely since he is with HKTV but tvb did say that they may recruit former tvb artists.
Felix worked with TVB for many many years just like Sheren so they know how TVB truly is and what it has evolved into. Also, since they are highly sought after veterans, I am sure TVB would recruit them back whenever they get the chance.
exactly HeTieshou.
100% support.
TVB remembers grudges. I do believe some artistes are permanently banned. They do have a soft spot for Felix though.
I don’t think it’s a big deal if tvb remember grudges. Some people may hold grudges in real life as well.
Sheren left TVB for ATV before and later went back to TVB. I don’t totally discount the possibility that she eventually films for TVB again, if they send the right person to persuade her (i.e. not this General Manager who is publicly rebuking her) and play the right cards (friendship card, grand production, tailor-made role for her, promise X% script in hand). Sometimes I think TVB has voodoo powers when it comes to persuading former artistes to come back (e.g. Lawrence Ng and Esther Kwan in this year’s dramas).
@Funn: I was actually wondering why you feel TVB has a ‘soft spot’ for Felix. I actually don’t see it at all…from what I’ve observed the past year or so, TVB hasn’t acknowledged any of Felix’s criticisms nor have they given him any ‘special treatment’….
Look at how they treated Wong Hei and you know what I mean.
I am Team Sheren all the way! If the conditions were bad, then I think she has the right to complain because complaints are the only way that can lead to changes, and besides this is simply constructive criticism. She is actually helping TVB in a way because her complaint will improve the quality of future dramas so that they will not be a rating disaster like Beauty at War. The first thing to solving a problem is admitting there is a problem. TVB should not hate her for criticizing. She would be lacking team spirit if she does not point out the mistakes now!
I 100% support this.
I think any artiste should be able to as long as they are supportive. they shouldn’t be seen as disrupting the peace.
Sheren does not care and does not need TVB. She has much better opportunities in China.
is tvb loss if they don’t use Sheren in their series. She’s a good actress. And I doubt she cares since she is quite popular in China and with works lining up.
You’re damn right on that! It is TVB loss
Sheren was just sticking to her principles and wanted to make her drama series good. There is nothing wrong with it. Perhaps it was not the best timing for her to voice her criticisms during the airing of “Beauty at War”. However, I don’t think her comments had made her colleagues uncomfortable. Everyone’s requirements and expectations are different. Sheren just has high expectations.
In fact, Kenny Wong’s nasty, mean and rude comments would make Sheren upset. Why didn’t TVB say something about them?
It’s great that Sheren point out the problems. She is a professional artist that doesn’t want to film garbage. There is nothing wrong with it.
wow many people in hk industry don’t seem to like sheren. not many stand up for her and media keep painting her as having an attitude
They are all afraid of offending TVB after seeing Sheren’s incident.
Eric Tsang Chi Wai is always a busy body and likes to stand up for any artiste in Hong Kong. Why didn’t he do it for Sheren? Chicken, Eric Tsang!
Well, perhaps Sheren had never sucked herself up to Eric Tsang in the past 30 years! Sheren, good for you!!
No, he is a fat drunkard chicken.
I don’t think Eric Tsang is that type of person. In one of the shows shown in Canada a few days ago, an artiste said that he likes to promote new artistes.
And did you really need to call Eric Tsang fat and whatnot?
He is a fatso and really loves a shower of booze. I wont be shock if he needs a liver transplant.
@sandcherry
———-
It’s a shame that Eric tsang didn’t try to step in and support Sheren. However, he is valued by TVB and most people in hk entertainment industry. I believe that if they use a different approach but said the same thing, that may be acceptable.
And as for Eric Tsang being “fat drunkard […] and wishing him to get a liver transplant, that’s harsh. Even if you don’t agree with him.. you shouldn’t have written those words. But then again, you tend to make fun of people on this site. So not surprised to see that you can make fun of every artiste.
Personally I don’t like Eric Tsang, but I believe that he is a nice person. He usually likes to help young artistes only not those veterans.
Besides, Sheren does not like to suck up with other artistes, and I think Eric likes people to suck up to him.
Its not harsh, its the reality. Im not funny.
@sandcherry: agree with you.
@larry 3: That’s not reality nor harsh. Just simply rude.
Its not rude. Its the cold hard truth. Look at weddings and parties that he tend to.
Moni: you misread his comment.
But nevertheless, you could have said, “eric tsang needs to watch out for his health or be cautious with what he’s eating […]” instead of saying “He is a fatso and really loves a shower of booze. I wont be shock if he needs a liver transplant.”..
Two different tones.
I think they are afraid and may get blacklisted. Its quite sad, not too many whistle-blowers for Hong Kong entertainment and music industry just to expose something is wrong. I dont blame her for doing that.
It’s not that people don’t like Sheren — it’s more like people are ‘afraid’ of TVB and don’t want to say anything for fear of being publicly ‘persecuted’ and banned like Sheren was.
There have actually been a few people who spoke up for Sheren — in addition to Wayne, other artists such as Felix Wong, Maggie Cheung, and Sheren’s ‘ex-lover’ Kwong Wah all publicly supported her (kudos to them for being brave enough to speak up…though of course, it helps that none of them work for TVB anymore, except Wayne).
Wayne being in an awkward position, it’s great that he supported Sheren.
Artist should definitely speak out when there’s a problem. That’s how they will improve. When no one points out the problems, it will turn into garbage like tvb dramas nowadays.
Old TVB series are the classic ones.
Problem is TVB is not accountability for take some action. They do not like negativity.
You right, it is turning into giant landfill.
Invalid comment.
If Sheren tang didn’t voice out, tvb execs wouldn’t have expressed
from 2014 and on, all series must have at least 80% of the script completed before filming can begin; Artists should have 8-9 hours of rest time in between each scene; There will be an increase of behind-the-scenes crew members to help reduce the workload..
I hope that they would keep their word.
Meh. They could easily renege on their words. If these artists don’t dare speak out now, why would they speak out later even if things remain unchanged? Unless they find job stability elsewhere.
@Moni: Yup…though keep in mind that TVB’s assistant GM Peter Au absolutely denies that the script change thing has anything to do with Sheren’s complaints. He ‘claims’ that TVB already had plans to do this since the beginning of the year (though of course we all know the truth)…
With their track record, I don’t doubt that TVB is going to renege on those ‘promises’. That whole ‘speech’ about employee benefits was pretty much just a PR move on TVB’s part….
TVB series nowadays are just garbages. Can’t blame Sheren for pointing out the truth about TVB
Agreed. If only they weren’t that proud.
Jessica Hsuan is always well-known being a straightforward person.
Yup…and of course, she doesn’t work for TVB anymore either (not even on a per series basis). It seems that the outpoken, vocal artists don’t last at TVB (probably because TVB is petty and can’t tolerate any type of criticism directed towards them)….basically, if you want to work for TVB, you have to be ‘obedient’ and not say anything bad about them…otherwise, it’s bye bye to you…
“It seems that the outpoken, vocal artists don’t last at TVB”
IMO it’s a chicken and egg thing. The artistes who are vocal with their criticisms against TVB are often also those who have opportunities lined up outside elsewhere, were intending to leave anyway and can afford to burn their bridges with TVB.
My sense is that even if this whole unpleasant incident hadn’t happened, Sheren wouldn’t have continued to film for TVB anyway; seems like she wants to focus on mainland productions nowadays.
I fully support Sheren Wats wrong with her???? She just sound out her points, because TVB cannot accept other people comment so it want to kick Sheren out ???? Wat a big deal gives Sheren 2 times Lead Actress award???? She deserve it!!!! Anyone remember how TVB treat Sheren when she filming the 1st chapter WAB??? Did TVB treat her 1st leading role at 1st???? Tat year she deserve to get the awards why not give her????? TVB….. also earn a lot from Sheren, don’t always say it gives lots of opportunity to Sheren!!!!! SHEREN keep it up! 四奶奶!!!九妹!!!Support U! Sheren fans please drop as much comment as u can to support Sheren!!!
Sheren has the courage to speak up and this very example shows how TVB mistreats it’s talent.
I wouldn’t be surprised if more of talented actors and actresses won’t be renewing their contracts with TVB – a dictatorship company.
It’s becoming too easy more me to not care about TVB anymore, there will be better alternatives coming.
Eric tsang…all he do is shoes polish tvb n china
Nothing else he can do …I m also wonder there is flooding in china …n this time he did not organization some funds rising ….surprise to me …..
