Linda Chung to Hold Solo Concert in August

Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣) revealed plans to hold her first solo concert in August, marking a major milestone in her flourishing music career. With her wholesome image and friendly disposition, Linda quickly rose through the ranks to top-line status at TVB after winning the Miss Chinese International title in 2004. In addition to leading roles in major drama productions, TVB eased Linda into her music career by asking her to sing theme songs for her series and scheduling live performances on TV.

With support from her large fan base, Linda easily found her place in the music world, releasing four full-length albums and a best-of record. Beloved by both TVB and her music label, Stars Shine International, Linda is happy about her career progress and hopes to achieve more before considering marriage.

Linda shared that she recently flew to South Korea to film a travel program and treasured her time there. “This time I brought a male and a female fan with me! They helped set up my travel itinerary, and gave me many pleasant surprises. It was an unforgettable experience. I will remember this trip for the rest of my life.”

Currently romantically linked with actor Philip Ng (伍允龍), Linda was asked if her boyfriend had ever given her any unforgettable memories. Linda spoke briefly about her idea of romance. “The men I know are all very down-to-earth, and not very romantic. The most romantic experience was when we went to the beach to watch sun set and rise. I remember everything I do with the people I love no matter how simple it is.”

Linda added that she is easily satisfied, and loves to take photos with the people she cares about. Reporters jokingly asked if she referred to nude photos. Linda quickly said, “Aiya! I would not take nude photos!”

Linda also shared that while she does not care much for material things, she insists on being given a ring when she marries. When asked if she had found her ideal marriage partner, Linda replied, “The most important thing is that he cares about me! … For now I will be focusing and working hard for my career.”

Denies Rumors With Elanne Kong

Earlier reports claimed that Linda’s former label mate Elanne Kong (江若琳) chose to not renew her contract because the company is delegating all of its resources to promoting Linda. Linda finds the accusation unfair and feels helpless about the reports. “Is it always my fault whenever someone leaves the company or can’t produce a song? I am friends with Elanne personally; there is no feud between us”. Reporters asked Linda to comment on rumors that she and Elanne were fighting for the label’s affections, Linda replied, “I was also rumored to be fighting with Joyce Cheng (鄭欣宜), Alfred Hui (許廷鏗), even Kay Tse (謝安琪) who is new to the label. I am supposedly fighting with just about everyone, how is that possible? I don’t know how to seek affection; I just hope to do my best.”

When asked if she gets better treatment from label boss Herman Ho (何哲圖), Linda pointed to her own work ethics as her recipe for success. “I think [Herman] is kind to me, but I don’t think he gives me special attention. I also worked very hard and I don’t want my efforts overlooked. I will be holding a concert in August.”

    1. Unfortunately yes.

My ears ring louder after hearing her sing.

      1. She is a much better singer than a lot of TVB actresses ok.

      2. i think she’s a good singer. And guys, don’t judge her by her singing, look at her singing and perseverance. I also like the fact that she doesn’t mind not wearing makeup in public. That’s what makes her stand out 😀

  1. I wish the best for Linda but I personally don’t think that she is that talented to be music and TV star. She might be spreading herself to thin and will suffer in her health trying to balance the two. What happens if she is given the opportunity to make a movie? Then she will have a hard choice to make between singing, TV series, movies, time with her family and personal life.

    1. is the picture on top linda? she looks tired and plain

  2. What world do you live in to not know that Linda has been a singer for at least the past 4 years? And she’s got some good songs from her albums. Give her a chance!

    1. @softrice: maybe sky is living in a world of good singers, singers who can actually sing live, don’t run out of breath and don’t sound breathless every time they sing, lucky for you sky.
i do hope that linda save enough breath for her upcoming concert cuz she can’t hardly breath singing just one song let alone many songs in one night.

      1. AGREE!!!
        I’m just LORRRR!!! LINDA?!!! CONCERT?!!!
        LORRRRRRRRRRRRRRR >_<

    2. i totally agree. Besides we should all support ABC actors and actresses.

  3. Like most HK singer artists’, her voice and songs sounds good on cd/studio record, when heard live though…I like her singing on cd better.

    1. Every singer sounds good on CD — with the advancements in technology nowadays, even someone who can’t carry a tune to save their lives can sound ‘perfect’ because of the different things that can be editing-wise in the studio. The ‘true’ test of whether a singer is good or not is whether they are able to pull off live performances in front of an audience (and deal with all the ‘baggage’ that comes with that type of performance, such as sound control, being able to hear your voice amongst all the noise from your surroundings, possible equipment issues, etc.). You will be hard-pressed to find too many artists whose live singing sounds almost exactly like they sound on CD (there are a few famous names in HK who can do this, but less than a handful pretty much).

To be honest, I’m not surprised that people like Linda (whom I actually don’t recognize as a ‘singer’ because I don’t feel she sings well at all) are able to hold solo concerts because nowadays, the standards are lower — pretty much anyone nowadays can become a singer and release an album….

      1. To add on, not everyone can sing live though. Some people may get nervous and whatnot..

      2. I recently watch the concert video of Lee Lai Ha (李麗霞 aka 黑妹) and a TVB second line actor Hoffman Cheng (鄭世豪) was one of the guest singers. His live singing was good especially in the slow songs and he has a nice voice. I have heard him sing a fast rock song before and didn’t think much of it, but, I was pleasantly surprised at his rendering of slow songs. Beautiful.

There are many artists like Hoffman Cheng who are good in live singing, but, not famous enough to have much opportunity to sing. If not, the standard of HK singers nowadays might not be so low.

      3. @Kidd Agree with you. I saw that concert too and I think Hoffman also guested at another older generation singer’s concert too (I can’t remember who though). His singing his much better than most TVB actors-turned-singers.

      4. @Kidd: Yup, totally agree — there’s definitely alot of ‘hidden talent’ amongst the green leaf ranks at TVB…too bad TVB does such a horrible job at recognizing such talent! I mean, look at how long it took them to realize that Kiki Sheung can actually sing so well (she’s been in the industry for decades and has sung before on other programs, yet only know TVB recognizes she can sing??).

As for Hoffman — yea, I found out he was a singer awhile back ago when I saw the promo poster for a concert he was doing with a few other green-leaf actors (one of whom is Peter Pang, singer Angela Pang’s brother). He does sing quite well (in fact, 10x better than most of the TVB siu sangs/fa dans turned singers) — but unfortunately for Hoffman, I don’t think he will ever get recognized…sadly, that’s just how the entertainment industry works.

      5. Did Kiki Sheung sing those English songs in I Have A Date With Spring as well?

      6. @skinnymocha

Yes, Kiki sang all her songs in ‘I Have A Date With Spring’. I think she was the only one of the 4 main leads who sang her own songs. The others were dubbed.

      7. @Kidd: Thanks! She does have a great voice. I know Alice Lau sang the main ones, but I think Sheren also did a few of her own as well – at least it sounded like her anyway…

Hmm, I feel like rewatching that series now.

  4. She’s gonna be straining her voice alot.. Her voice is already very weak as she has a quiet voice singing a concert would not be very good for her

  5. Unfortunately, they dont have new singers like Anita Mui, Sally Yeh and Jacky Cheung nowadays. No newbies could compare to them. Those are what one would called real singers, pros!

    1. Yes, very unfortunate. These days, we lack singers who can make us–or at least, me–think “I would pay to hear them sing live, rather than just listen to their CD” because not many can sing live as well as Anita, Sally, Jacky, etc.

  6. Linda cant sing . Why don’t she focus on acting as her acting is getting better .

  7. funny how a lot of people think she can’t sing but she’s the tvb actress-singer still going strong compared to fala, kate etc.

  8. It’s just a mini concert. Give her a break. Yes she is not the best singer out there but she is not horrible! She is the ONLY TVB female singer still singing!!! Fala, myolie, kate, all went down the drain!!! She improved a lot. Look, if Vivian Chow can open a concert then Linda can open one too! At least Linda try to write a song in every album she release. She truly loves singing and her fans will always support her 🙂

  9. She is a terrible singer and only a bed service can help her to get a concert.

  10. linda’s singing is like someone reading very slowly in a quiet voice that’s out of breathe lol…if that’s call singing.

  11. While i think Linda is cute, but her acting isn’t all that great, i am not sure about her singing though.

  12. Linda cannot sing. I’ve heard Myolie, though. She’s pretty okay.
