Eric Tsang Has No Say in “Aerobic Girls” Cast Selection?
TVB grand production, Aerobic Girls, is set to start filming in mid-July. The drama will focus on the life of a group of high school girls when they meet again 25 years later. As the producer, Eric Tsang (曾志偉) is supposedly the one in charge of cast selection. However, tabloids claimed that TVB executive, Sandy Yu (余詠珊), kicked out anyone she disapproves of, and Eric had no say.
Artists who were initially invited to film Aerobic Girls include Flora Chan (陳慧珊), Sheren Tang (鄧萃雯), Anita Yuen(袁詠儀), Teresa Mo (毛舜筠), Veronica Yip (葉玉卿), and Patricia Ha (夏文汐). It was reported that Rachel Lee (李麗珍) and Gloria Yip (葉蘊儀), will now star in the drama opposite Lawrence Ng (吳啟華).
Since the drama will focus on the later life of high school girls, actresses need to be cast as young versions of the characters as well. Earlier, Eric and his good friend Paco Wong (黃柏高) from Sun Entertainment Culture agreed on his girls from As One to take the roles. At the time, Sandy happened to be in the hospital and was not informed. Once she learned the news, she signaled a “No way!” at Eric.
An insider revealed, “The [drama] was Sandy’s idea. She thought of producing a story about women in hopes of saving viewership ratings. Sandy shared her thoughts with the current TVB boss, Charles Chan (陳國強), who in turn asked Eric to select the cast. He also told Sandy to give Eric some advice. That’s why Sandy needs to approve the people Eric chose.”
In replacement of As One, Sandy selected Heidi Lee (李靜儀) and Cheronna Ng (吳嘉熙) from Super Girls. Reportedly, this was because the company the girls are from is under Sandy’s husband, Herman Ho (何哲圖).
Sandy Yu Gets Back at Natalis Chan?
Carol Yeung (楊焉) and Rainky Wai (蔚雨芯), both from a company under Nat Chan (陳百祥), were considered as casting options for Aerobic Girls. Eric allegedly already agreed, but Sandy said no once again. In fact, the girls were not even given an opportunity to audition. Apparently, the reason was because the roles have all been “filled.”
“Earlier, Sandy recommended Priscilla Wong (黃翠如) and Tony Hung (洪永城) to be the hosts of Nat’s variety show, Nat Around the World <叻哥遊世界>. However, she was let down by Nat’s immediate refusal. That’s why in Eric’s new drama, Nat’s girls were kicked out before they could audition,” an insider reported.
Sandy Yu and Herman Deny Reports
“There was nothing of the sort. Filming the drama is Eric’s wish, and I take no part in cast selection.” Sandy said. Herman helped his wife push the reports away. “Eric and Tommy Leung (梁家樹) were in charge of the auditioning. It had nothing to do with Sandy. I did get notice that Heidi and Cheronna are already confirmed to take part, but the roles haven’t been decided yet.”

funny how he could not get the main female casts, and now suddenly he has “no say” in the casting.
What a joke!
Which is why we should always take any news with a grain of salt until they actually start to film or there is obvious proof. Time will tell all and hope that besides the cast, the script and everything will be good because there is more to a series than just the cast.
It’d be an even bigger joke if this series was still in pre-production planning for another year and they still don’t or can’t form a female leading cast lol.
Honestly…it doesn’t matter whether Eric gets to choose the cast or not — with the way things look now, it’s not about who he wants to film, it’s about whether those artists he wants even has time for him.
Based on the latest cast list that came out, pretty much the only people mentioning in this series will be Flora and Louisa….Lawrence will probably have a minor role and the rest of the cast just doesn’t appeal to me. And again, this series is starting to sound more and more like an idol series (similar to that Sunshine Heartbeat franchise that TVB did a few years back)…based on all of that, this will be a definite “skip” for me…
The drama title itself doesn’t look like it’s going to attract high ratings. Personally I don’t have any expectations on TVB drama anymore because watching them really ‘slaughter’ my IQ!
this sandy yu is a ugly bit_h
