Joey Meng Broke Down While Filming in China
The filming of Gilded Chopsticks <食為奴> completed in June, but earlier this week, there were reports claiming that Joey Meng (萬綺雯) went through a rough time while filming for the period drama in mainland China last month.
The reports indicated that the script of Gilded Chopsticks constantly suffered last-minute script rewrites, and Joey was not given enough time to prepare for her new lines and had problems working out her role. It was said there were various times when Joey actually “broke down and cried.”
During mealtimes, the mainland Chinese actors would take all of the food that were prepared by the Hong Kong production crew, leaving Hong Kong actors “starving” to find food elsewhere.
Speaking with the press earlier this week, Joey admitted that script changes did occur during the filming of Gilded Chopsticks in mainland China. She said, “Actors should communicate with each other first so we can all have time to prepare and discuss our roles and the script.” Asked if she had cried like what the reports claimed, Joey said, “I would not cry, but I was missing my husband and that got my eyes red.”
Joey’s experience in mainland China was not as bad as how the reports made it seem. The actress revealed that a kind mainland Chinese fan gave her a photo album filled with Joey’s life photos – some of the photos included Joey’s beloved deceased cat. “The album made me cry,” she expressed.
As for the rumors that the Joey was not eating well when she was filming in China, Joey clarified, “I am the only one on the team who is a vegetarian. The crew members forgot that, but I did not blame them.”

i think she’s doing fine. paparazzi just making stuff up when they see her cry. from watching her on may’s cooking episode, she seems like a person that easily sheds tear from happy or sad things.

Joey is Cantonese, her surname “Meng” is a Cantonese pronunciation. It have nothing related to the meaning of Mongolia.
万绮雯 is her name, in Cantonese is Meng
but in Mandarin her surname is Wan
You need to look at the characters to understand. Chinese have thousands of dialects.
isn’t the cantonese pronounciation for “萬”, MAN though?

Yeah…but they’re richer than us. Not all of them are uneducated so don’t generalize man. You might even work under them in the future. I live in HK, and I feel like I have to learn Mandarin in order to find more job opportunities. The only language i’m fluent in is English and so far it’s pretty useless here from what I have seen (unless I work in the airport which is a BIG plus)
Or even better, you can be a celebrity, because it seems like all these newbie celebs can’t speak or read a lick of Chinese nowadays anyway LOL 😛

What’s been up with her breaking down….anyway, I think this really proves that she takes acting or her job, in general, very seriously. Rare to see actors these days to be that on top of their game. Hope she becomes top 3 for best actress this year. She really deserves it.
