Chilam Cheung and Anita Yuen Hope for Daughter

Ever since the launch of Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲霄II>, Chilam Cheung’s (張智霖) popularity soared immensely. Recently, it was rumored that Chilam accepted a $50 million HKD contract to sign with Stephen Shiu Jr.’s (蕭定一) entertainment company. However, his wife, Anita Yeun’s (袁詠儀) luck seemed to have hit a bump as netizens called her out on her excessive swearing in her new drama, Longmen Express <龍門鏢局>.

Chilam has been busy accepting advertisement offers, and was rumored to be starring in a movie adaption of Triumph in the Skies 2. His popularity led to an increase in pay, in which his filming fee increased to 350,000 RMB per episode in mainland China. Chilam has another Patrick Kong (葉念琛) romantic comedy lined up for the end of the year, in which it is speculated that he will be pocketing $3 million HKD as compensation.

On the other hand, Anita’s drama suffered from the backlash of netizens who did not like the Cantonese swear words Anita added to her lines in Longmen Express. Viewers deemed that they were inappropriate for young children and gave off a negative vibe to the series.

Anita Hopes for a Daughter

Even with his busy schedule, Chilam recently took time off to spend the afternoon shopping with Anita in Causeway Bay. While Chilam acts as a playboy for his role in Triumph in the Skies 2, he remains a loving husband in real life. Because of Anita’s recent unsuccessful return to the entertainment scene, he allegedly urged his wife to stop working to prevent stress.

Both Chilam and Anita have previously voiced that they wanted a daughter, and now with Anita’s tentative retirement from the industry, it looks like the couple will finally have time to prepare for a second child.

Since it is more risky for Anita to try for a second child at the age of 41, the pair reportedly decided to pursue in-vitro fertilization. With that goal in mind, Anita will be appearing less in front of the camera and will be spending more time at home, taking care of their son Morton. Anita said, “I don’t have to work anymore! My husband said he would take on all the jobs now so I’m free to work or not work. From now on, I’ll only choose work that’s not too stressful or too far away!”

  1. Hasn’t she been kind of semi-retired for a while now? They should set to have a daughter a few year back….age….nothing gets easier w/age. In-vitro or not having a kid takes a lot of energy that one has less of w/age. But then again, they have the money to hire 10 helpers! 😛

    1. Even though I never heard the swearing, I doubt that’s the reason she’s lost her popularity in the industry. Women at that age just “lose it” and unlike men who can keep going onto their 50’s…….I think the main reason she wants to have another baby is to “tie down” Chilam some more now that he is a “hot item” in industry and even more attractive to young chicks……..let’s face it, there’s nothing more Anita can do to tie him down other than having another kid.

      1. If Chilam no longer loved Anita, having another kid will not make any difference. I think since they already have a son, it is logical to want a daughter.

Well, the industry is not like how it used to be anymore since competition is getting more and more fierce. Everyone wants to become a celeb these days thinking that it is an easy way to make money and become famous. Actresses have a very short lifespan in the circle compared to men, so it is not that surprising that Anita is not as successful as she hoped to be. It also depends on her luck and right projects/roles too. However, men seem to be more successful than women are when it comes making a comeback to the circle.

      2. Hi HeTieShou, I fully agree with you. I don’t think it’s a good idea for anyone who wants to have children to tie down their spouse. If you no longer love each other, it might make matters worst to have more children.

      3. Yuiada, I think you need to enter the 21st century and realize that women do not need to have children to “tie down” men anymore. It is true that it is harder for women in their 40s and 50s to continue their career in the entertainment industry, but don’t use it as an excuse to judge Anita’s desire to have another child. She was extremely successful in her own right, she continues to be well known in the industry, it’s probably just more challenging for her to find a role that’s rewarding enough to warrant spending her time filming it (as oppose to spending her time with her son). And, she continued to be with Chilam even though she was way more popular than him and was virtually forgotten for the last decade or so. There is really nothing she needs to do to tie him down and I doubt she’s even trying. It’s high time you re-evaluate your values Yuiada and stop living in the stone ages.

      4. haha, can u tie a heart with kids? that’s so lame. If the feelings are gone they are GONE.

    2. @May,
I know, when was she ever in demand so to speak after that hit movie w/that lau ching wan was it? She was in some series n then some tvb series but major flops. When was she ever really famous except for being married to this dude?
agree. they can any more children since any couple w/$$$$$$$ can hire whoever to take care of them.

      1. Well, I think anita is famous than chilam way back then… she was famous with her collaboration with the late leslie cheung and lau ching wan.

But I do agree that most of her dramas are flop..

      2. She was more famous in movies than series. I think at one time she was more famous than Chilam (in terms of movie hits).
But they’ve been great together. When one is busier, the other can take his/her place – being married is like that. We cannot be calculating who is more successful or bringing in more $ if both are equally hardworking cos in the entertainment industry, opportunities and luck goes hand-in-hand.

  2. She swears because it expresses the character’s personality and the series itself showcases a mix of ancient/modern Mandarin/English/Cantonese so it’s appropriate. And frankly, it’s not even really “swearing.”

  3. Way to slap down those “rocky” marriage rumors. Sounds like Chilam and Anita have a “rock solid” marriage. Another child (girl or boy) will be sweet “icing on the cake”.

    1. A child does not indicate a solid marriage.. otherwise there would be no children with divorced parents 😛

      1. Thank you TVBFanatic – such a true statement, albeit sad.

      2. Bring another child into this world will either make it or break it in the marriage.

I know this guy has 5 kids. Is he happy with his marriage, hell no. Having kids will make the parents harder to get divorce because they will put their kids first before their happiness.

      3. Well said TVBFanatic! Children definitely do not guarantee a happy and solid marriage. At times, having kids and working out how to take care of them around work and all is what stresses out a marriage and causes more problems.

      4. The fact that they’re planning a 2nd child means the marriage is fine.

      5. Not so… I have inlaws who planned for second child, and their marriage is rocky at best.

I’m going to screw up the saying… but my wife once told me that children are seen like “glue” that can mend or bond a marriage. That some see it as an attempt to breath life into the marriage. Really the wrong reason to have one IMHO.

      6. I agree w/most but here’s what i think on children.
I think it depends on what age group you are to be thinking about children.
In the good old days, it’s marriage first baby second. Nowadays, I am seeing it backwards esp for the older generation group. I have an older age colleague who’s in their late 30’s and even if they have b/f or g/f status, they wanted to have a child first in order to be motivated on getting married. One colleague of mine actually had a baby n then it’s wedding bells for these so called live in partners and no they don’t have the best relationship but they got married just BECAUSE of a baby. And if they are in 20’s I doubt they will bring a baby into the world in order to feel a need to get hitched? What’s the damn hurry right? I don’t think a baby fixes/repairs/patches up any relationship but it’s a different issue altogether but i am just trying to say some ppl do get married JUST B/C of a KID these days. Many many situations and on the subject alone of rock marriages trying to patch things up trying for a 1st or 2nd….SIGH…hard to say if you have problems, you have problems, a baby will not help in any way in the long run. they stray, they stray nothing will keep them from attempting to do so. children or not…

  4. I wonder how many females on Jaynestars have met the wrong man before or met the wrong chick who stole her “mister right” Lol.. Cause some of the comments on here is ridiculously unreasonable and humorous at the same time…

  5. Hope their wish for a daughter come true, she will be beautiful.

  6. “Since it is more risky for Anita to try for a second child at the age of 41, the pair reportedly decided to pursue in-vitro fertilization.”

There is something seriously not right with this sentence. The risk is in the pregnancy and the giving birth, so whether in vitro or natural conception has no bearing in that. Rather the choice of natural birth or ceasarian will have that serious implication. Or is this article suggesting, which may be the fact to critics that having sex to conceive is such a risk to Anita with her age that it is better she conceives artificially without the whole sex thing since you know, too much effort or neither is interested in getting down and dirty? Or she is too pure for sex?

Or perhaps she just can’t conceive naturally despite years of trying. I do not believe for a second they just decide to have a 2nd child now. No one goes for IVF if they can conceive naturally. So it means she can’t or he can’t or something like that.

I really don’t get that sentence. Anyway 41 is a bit risky but not very risky.

    1. True… conception will be harder as you grow older, but the real risk is when carrying the child at that age, and the birth. The risk of birth defects also increases with age.

Still, if they are going through with it, then I wish them a healthy happy baby.

      1. True but varies from person to person. My mom had my 6th brother, me and my younger brother after 35(she had my younger brother at 42) and we are all fine. One of my mom’s friends had her youngest daughter in her 50s and she is fine. Anita and Chilam still have a good chance if they have one now.

  7. It is fun to see there are many family or marriage experts here judging other personal lives.

  8. to me.. anita yuen was never a good actress, wonder what made her got hired?

    1. She has won best female actress twice at the hongkong film festival and was acknowledged as one of the best actress in the film industry…

    2. HAHA LOL I just couldn’t agree w/u more.
The most famous pharase i remember about her is her self proclaimed beauty. LOL..

    3. Have you watched C’est la vie? She’s is good, which won her the Best Actress.

      1. She is stil a very good actress just because she’s had a few bad roles over the years she’s lost her popularity maybe she should film for tvb like chi lam and revive her popularity

    4. @hiccups: How many of Anita’s works have you seen? If it’s only 1 or 2, then that’s an awfully harsh generalization, no?

I actually feel Anita is a pretty good actress who is quite deserving of the Best Actress awards she got. I’ve always liked Anita’s movies, though can’t really say the same for her TV series — I think the problem is that she suits the movie industry more than television, as her acting is more ‘natural’ in her movies whereas something always seems lacking with her performances in TV series.

Oh and to the person who said that Anita is only ‘famous’ because of her relationship with Chilam….um, you must not have been around back when Anita was at the height of her career. She was DEFINITELY more famous than Chilam back then and had a more illustrious career than he did — to some extent, she’s still more ‘famous’ than him even now if we look at it from a ‘net worth within the entertainment industry’ perspective…it’s just that she’s been ‘semi-retired’ for the past decade or so, which is why alot of current audiences might not be as familiar with her.

      1. Indeed!! Just like I said before.. anita is one of the best actress and was acknowledged by the filming industry.. Being chosen as the best actress twice is enough to prove that she’s a good actress…

Maybe she don’t have a luck in drama. Just hope that she can still revive in the industry and their relationship still going strong no matter what.

Wonder what happened to sean lau and amy kwok..

      2. True Anita is a good actress. She became semi retired after becoming a wife and mother.

Amy and Sean are happily married and Sean is really successful in the movie/film industry. Amy is now retired but may come back to acting one day. I heard she was considering coming back but not sure if she will or not.

    5. Acting is subjective so one may love an actor/ actress while another person will hate them. However, the majority thinks they are good then I guess it is safe to say that they are.

  9. I love this couple so much. Hopefully, their relationship will lasts and still going strong.. I hope their wish for a daughter will come true.
