Felix Wong Denies Recommending Michael Miu to HKTV

The rumors of Michael Miu (苗僑偉) eyeing for a contract with HKTV had floated around for weeks, ever since he turned down the offer to star in TVB’s upcoming drama Midas <點金勝手> earlier this month.

Last week, Michael clarified in an interview that the rumors were false and that he currently has no intentions to join HKTV, also revealing that he will be shooting a new TVB in January or February of 2014.

However, the 55-year-old actor did admit that HKTV boss Ricky Wong (王維基) had approached him for a possible future collaboration. Michael also expressed his hopes of a free television market in the future. “As an artist, we all want to be able to freely film for as many television stations as we want,” the actor said.

Rumors then surfaced that Michael’s good friend Felix Wong (黃日華), who has signed with HKTV and is currently shooting Flow of the Years <歲月樓情> with Ha Yu (夏雨) and Paw Hee Ching (鮑起靜), was the one who recommended Michael to Ricky.

Felix clarified, “No, I never did that. I will not. I believe this depends on his own choice and wishes. [Ricky] has approached many others, but it really depends on the license. If [HKTV] has a license, everything will be much easier to handle. Everyone would be happy. If actors, good actors, are able to come to [HKTV], then that’s wonderful. It benefits everyone.”

As for when HKTV will get its free-to-air license, the former TVB star said, “Don’t know, but it’s looking good. Judging from Mr. Wong’s expressions and voice, he has been looking happier; not as depressed as before,” Felix laughed.

  1. I hope HKTV get their license soon!!!! I’m surprised Ricky lasted that long. Thought he drained his bank $ already 🙁

  2. I don’t believe Michael (and others) would join HKTV anymore until it gets its license. Besides, Michael is supposedly good friends with the current TVB boss

  3. I also hope HKTV will get their licence soon. More competitions and better quality drama series. Why not?

    1. Not sure if they are going to be better quality dramas or not. But with TVB being so bad lately, maybe they are better??

      1. If there are more competitions, TVB will have to work harder for sure ……….. filming better-quality drama series.

      2. not just “work harder.” TVB needs to “work smarter” if they wants to stay in the game

      3. That is a smart comment! Hope TVB will read your post.

      4. Competition doesn’t bring out the best quality stuff. Look at what companies nowadays releasing. Junks! It has a shelf life of a year or less and on with the next products. Remember the 80s and 90s where there weren’t much competition? Everything was solid and lasting. If you disagree with me then whatever. I still think it not competition that brings out the best but it the time and research to make a good product. They didn’t have madness competition like today so they actually spent time to research and made worthwhile merchandises. Today you get stuff released constantly. Companies want to send other companies bankrupt. In the long run, everybody loses. Nobody can stay the top of their games all the time!!!

  4. I am re-watching Triumph in the Skies 1; It is far better than tits 2, even though it was produced ten years ago. Francis, Louisa So, Ron, and Flora were so good that I love to watch the old TVB series than the new ones.

    1. 99+% of the old drama series were better than the current ones ……….. better storyline, better acting, better scenes and music. Almost everything was better.

      1. The costume and makeup was probably the only things that were not better in the past …

      2. Correct. Also the photo-shooting techniques should be better in TITS 2.

    2. That’s probably because the plot was tighter integrated in the past. TITS2 suffers from too many plots all over the place about people the audience don’t give a hoot about, because it’s either about annoying side characters or mini plots with no build-up. In the meantime, the actual characters you care about, have storylines that drag on and on foreveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer. Zzzzzzzzzzz

      1. Yeah, they r including too many actors and making too many stories for them that are redundant.. Like pink pink and her father, eliza sam and her mother.. Waste of time.

  5. In tits 2 Francis, Chilam ,Ron are good, but the others are just so so.

  6. If Ricky has borrowed heavily from the banks to finance his TV station, then the HK government will have to issue the licence sooner or later. It doesn’t make economic sense for Ricky to go bankrupt.

    1. I think it has more to do with the Mainland Chinese Government than the Government of Hong Kong. They interfered in the approval of the licence.

  7. Why on earth would Felix need to recommend Michael Miu? Ricky has lots of experience in going after many TVBers that he hardly need any help in that area, lol. Slow news day for sure. I’d rather hear more about how far along he is at getting the licence!

  8. Don’t you think that maybe is because we are so used to TVB shows that’s why we find it rather plain nowadays? I’m a huge fan of tvb and I used to like watching HK drama. Now I still do just that it become so normal routine alr and it doesn’t make the shows feel any special.

Anyway, I don’t wish HKTV get their license 🙁 I’m a pro-tvb. I watched some HKTV trailer but I definitely prefer TVB shows.

Just saying , no offense 🙂

    1. Well, TVB actually has changed alot from the way it was before (I’m speaking from first-hand experience here). Yes, perhaps audiences’ tastes have changed a bit over the years, but that doesn’t mean TVB shouldn’t foot the blame for so many people losing interest in their series….after all, they are the ones trying to sell audiences a product and so it’s their responsibility to maintain its quality and attractiveness.

And no offense from my side either, but I’ve actually never understood why supporters of TVB feel as though they can’t support HKTV or this whole licensing thing. I myself have been a TVB supporter for decades (if we add my family in there, we’ve actually been supporting them since the beginning) and to this day, I’m still a supporter — but at the same time, I also support HKTV and the whole free license thing because of many reasons, but most importantly, because I believe in competition driving improvement and change (plus I’m looking at it more from the ‘big picture’ level of the entire HK television industry as a whole). This is one of the reasons why so many artists — even those currently under contract with TVB — also support the issuance of additional licenses. It’s not about trying to bring TVB down (because we all know that’s never going to happen unless they go down ATV’s path), but rather it’s about breathing some life into the HK entertainment industry and also giving HK television artists more options (and better treatment in many cases) as well as giving audiences more options….oh and of course, the ultimate goal is to catch HK up with the rest of the world (after all, which other major nation out there only has 1 TV station that monopolizes the entire television industry?).

Bottom line, I honestly don’t see a problem with multiple TV stations co-existing together….to me, it’s something that the HK government should have done years ago…

      1. Hmm I guess is true that with competition, tvb will strive better. But then again i believe it will bring negative impact to TVB also.

Maybe i don’t really understand since i’m not from HK. And watching tvb drama is just a to do list in my daily life. And i guess i am being selfish here since i want TVB to be the only one. 🙁

Anyway thanks for commenting back 🙂

      2. TVB will survive for sure, but they will be under pressure to improve and produce more quality drama series and shows for her audience, which is good to us all.

    2. Maybe the government will give then a license 10 years from now. HKTV suck. Only TVB can bring in the big stars. TVB all day everyday!!!

Btw why is HKTV has two names? The other is CTI. That’s tanga talaga.

      1. hmm i think a lot of stars were famous via tvb. As in, since TVB is international well known.

Anyway if HKTV want to be a tv station, then they should use all the people who are not from TVB ma.Obviously they are using the used to be tvb people to become a well known tv station. I believe the reason why HKTV keep recruiting the tvb former stars is because we are familiar to them that’s why we will watch their shows.

Then again, i am just saying no offense at all.

  9. Hope they will get their license soon as they have a few drama that I am interested in watching!! Also will provide competition for TVB to make better dramas!

  10. TVB must be pressuring someone “upthere” to delay the issuing of licence – it’s competition…lol…
