Ending Spoilers for “Can’t Buy Me Love” Revealed
Amidst of the Hong Kong tourists’ tragic deaths in the Philippines , TVB aired Can’t Buy Me Love <公主嫁到>, which has eased the atmosphere and brought about more positive energy. Charmaine Sheh Si Man and Moses Chan Ho portray a bickering royal couple. Eldest princess, Sharon Chan Man Chi’s treachery will cause Charmaine and Moses to break up. Fortunately, the couple turns danger into a blessing and becomes more affectionate than before.
The thirty-two episode, Can’t Buy Me Love, revolves around the wild escapades of five unruly princesses, creating many humorous situations. Moses Chan shines in his comic role. In its first week of broadcast, Can’t Buy Me Love averaged thirty-three points (with approximately 2.1 million viewers) and peaked at thirty-seven points (with approximately 2.56 million viewers).
In order to avoid marrying into the Tibetan royal family, Charmaine’s character married Moses Chan. Outwardly displaying love for each other, their marriage was in fact a sham and remained unconsummated. The plot thickened when Sharon Chan, who was jealous of her sister Charmaine, bribed Moses’ ex-lover, Elaine Yiu Chi Ling. Sharon even poisoned Elaine and framed Charmaine for the crime. Fortunately, Elaine did not die from the poisoning and revealed the identity of the true attempted-murderer. Although spared from a death sentence, Sharon was forced to leave the palace and demoted to a commoner. Charmaine and Moses’ love strengthened and Charmaine even has a daughter with Moses.
Charmaine, Moses, Louis Yuen Siu Cheung, Fala Chen, and Raymond Wong Ho Yin appeared on Super Trio Game Master <超 級遊戲獎門人> yesterday. If the ratings were to reach fifty points, Louis asked Moses if he would wear swimming briefs. Moses was embarrassed by Louis’ remark, although he was confident the ratings for Can’t Buy Me Love will continue to increase.
In a radio interview, Charmaine also admitted that she sent a birthday text message to rumored boyfriend, Kevin Cheng Ka Wing. Charmaine said that she did not give him any birthday gifts.

Jayne: “Can’t Buy Me Love” had incredible ratings in its first week of broadcast. I think it will break into 40 points for its finale. The plot sounds quite predictable though.
I watch the series at Todou website but I cannot not understand the dialog. I watched Charmaine as Princess but her acting doesn’t compare to Esther Kwan in the old series. Not even close to Esther at all….
From first glimpse(I’m not watching)a grand, colourful, and lighthearted mega production like this will easily reach 40 points or more in the final week.
The ending sounds kind of predictable and redundant, but hey with so many series coming out these days, it is hard not repeat and reuse. I wonder why the ratings are so high even the plot is so predictable???
What’s the point of watching when the ending is revealed? Or is this just a teaser? There may be a different ending? Frankly it is the expected ending. What else can it be?
Funn, Can’t Buy Me Love may not have a clever plot, but it is the kind of series that you want for star power or the silly situations and dialogue exchange. I thought War of In-Laws had a pretty terrible plot, but the cast chemistry and some punch lines were the reasons why people liked the series.
Who can resist an unruly princess who really has a good heart inside? Or a marriage-in-name where the wife and hubby fall for each other? Or some outrageous family bantering, where ultimately everyone shows they truly care for each other? These are tried and true recipes for success. Look at War of In-Laws I.
No offence but War Of In Laws is the series that killed my interest in Myolie. The whole unruly princess, etc may be a good watch if well written, well acted and well cast but CBML isn’t that sort with such combination. Punch lines are only punch lines if well delivered. What I could see now are mechanical precision; robotic. Please don’t mention War Of In Laws. I shudder at the thought of it.
where can I watch the Super Trio Game Master show??
can’t wait …. i didnt even started yet the ending already out -_-” lol ….
I hate War in laws …
I think that it is sad these days because it seems that people don’t care for good acting, good plot, script,etc.. THey just care if their “idols” are in a series or not. Basically, they just care for the cast and that is it.Then they complain about it afterwards. It feels as if these days, people just need to look decent and they are fine whether they have talent or not. Sadly, that is what a number of the younger audience(even some of the older audience) goes for. Entertainment just is not the same as it used to be anymore. I really miss the nostalgic good old days so much…. sigh…
I agree with Jayne. War of In Laws(I) was an accidental success. It was a small production with a terrible plot and shallow characters, yet HK audience fall for it.
Perhaps HK just crave for TVB silly comedies, especially one with well known stars and rising stars like Can’t Buy Me Love.
I wouldn’t say that War of In-Laws I was an accidental success. Rather, TVB wanted to test the audience’s reaction to Lisa’s comic roles and perhaps cast her as a second Nancy Sit. Since it was more of a test, TVB did not put a lot of production dollars behind the series, resulting in a poor plot. In recent years, Lisa has only filmed comedy roles–perhaps she finds the filming more uplifting. TVB paired Liza to obviously increase the popularity of Myolie Wu and Bosco Wong at the time.
I felt that Virtues of Harmony I (ancient version) carved the path for silly ancient comedies, in which the punch lines relied on extremely modern dialogue and anachronistic scenarios

So you don’t do the same? I admit I do look forward to a series if my favorites are in, but that doesn’t mean I will not watch a good series that doesn’t have any of my favourite stars :).
But the thing is, the current TVB rarely produce good series with good script anymore. That’s why most people only look forward to series with their favourite stars, because even if the story and the directions and actings are bad, at least there’s something worth watching for which is to look at their favorites performance.
some of you are too critical towards CBML. it’s meant for laughter and not in-depth plot/discussion. Granted, what may be funny for me, may not do that to you. So simply, don’t watch it at all if you can’t crack a smile.
Interestingly I didn’t like Liza in comedies. She really exaggerates. She’s in her game once she’s in the strong woman type, but when it’s required for her to be comical she goes OTT. Liza’s definitely made for serious dramas 🙂
Can’t buy me love has been quite enjoyable, for me at least. With so many worries and stress, its nice to sit back and watch a comedy without serious drama. TVB should really learn that serious dramas like drive of life and growing through life does not take well with the hk audience.
Agree with Masaharu. Comedy is not Liza’s forte. I don’t find her funny in any of the comedy series she’s in, except maybe WOIL2. I’m watching ‘OL Supreme’ now and Liza was not funny at all, even when she’s saying funny lines.
Nancy Sit, on the other hand, is a direct opposite of Liza Wang. Nancy Sit is a pro in comedy, very natural. But, she exaggerates a lot dramatic scenes.
Chu Mi Mi is an even better comedian. Just watch her concert. You will laugh yourself silly with her jokes.
The only time I thought Liza was funny was in Glittering Days. I am just glad she stops delivering every line in a script like it is some speech to preach.
Nancy Sit is not a good actress but she has a joyful personality that attracts viewers.
Chu Mimi is of course a very good actress and a very good comedian. No comparison.
As for CBML, I am aware it works for some, and it may bring a chuckle or 2 but it is like a sign of demise of good comedy replacing it with I don’t even know whether to call it slapstick. Mindless comedy? But that would insult Stephen Chow’s brand of comedy. So I am not sure what to call it except it works for some.
And I have decided a long time ago not to accept any crap thrown by TVB to my way which is why these days I have become very selective on what I watch. I suppose everybody has their own threshold on what is acceptable and what is not. I am just fed up how casting, writing even acting decisions are made these days. So very rare there is a series that makes me count the days for it to broadcast, and one which makes me ponder and think about it long after it ended. And that includes comedy that makes you chuckle at any one particular scene long after it ended. It is about longevity but TVB seems more concerned with current ratings, the in the moment sort of impact. I don’t think I will even pay to buy any of the current series when it is released in DVD, but I may consider the older series. That is the state that TVB is in these days. They put out a lot of productions, one after the other, but seriously speaking and ask yourself, would you even remember it a few years from now? Some you may remember because it was so god awful and some because rightfully they were excellent. But most these days are so average I can’t even remember the names or story just a few months later. the time for quality series is over and until TVB bucks up, what we have is mediocrity. Looking at who are the famous ones and etc, certainly being mediocre is good enough. And as paying customers, we should not want mediocre products. I expect better from TVB which they’re capable of. Unfortunately no offense but younger viewers or new fans nowadays just take whatever is given and when a few of us start voicing opinion, which at times may be OTT but we are making valid points, we are told to shut up, switch off TV, don’t watch, etc. If that is the case TVB will surely close shop because talking about a series or actors in it generate free publicity, good or bad. Shoot me if you will but I feel that is why MOL and even Beyond the Realm Of Conscience got high ratings because half will tune in to watch for their favourite stars, some because of the story and most probably to watch how atrocious it is.
Anyway I am getting too longwinded for my own good. Watch whatever you will, if you like what you see, or don’t like what you see, talk about it. That is how all discussions come alive. Hopefully not to the point of crashing Jayne Stars. This has become my must visit news site of late, more for the comments I must admit.
I read in baidu that the part where 1st Princess become a commoner happen in episode 15. So, it might not be an ending spoiler. Just one of the many plots.
i think it’s a matter of opinion… Liza is better off in more serious series and well WOIL only did well because it seemed refreshing for Liza to play comedic roles and there were scenes that made it funny…but really the humour was very like…old. nothing we haven’t seen before.
Nancy Sit I think is a good actress only Born Rich was one of her flaws in series. She was completely ill during this drama, she could barely walk, let alone carry out dialogues and such. And there’s the mistakened understanding that COMEDY isn’t acting, but infact comedy is just as tough to act out right. Many actors and directors have said before, that being comedic is difficult and requires the most acting. Nancy Sit though hasn’t just done comedy, it’s only because we’ve seen her do Virtues of Harmony & Heavenly in-laws for like 5 years…but prior to that, she’s done pitiful roles like police station 7, return of the cuckoo, silver chambers of sorrows etc.
Can’t Buy Me Love, to me seems like a drama you’d watch to past time.it’s humour isn’t really that funny..in the sense that it’s really just the script. the actors themselves i find don’t have comedic chemistry. Can’t Buy Me Love is also just making fun Heart of Greed, Beyond the Realm of Conscience, Moonlight Resonance etc…and then steals the old comedies found in stuff like Virtues of Harmony…and they push out those really annoying quotes and such, sayings etc… it’s not a bad drama if you just want to past time watching a show that has a bit of humour to it and is filled with lots of newcomer stars… but if you’re looking for the magical comedy that old dramas used to have…you wouldn’t find it in this.
“return of the cuckoo”
She overacted big time in emotional scenes in this series and it didn’t seem natural. She’s prone to be over-dramatic in emotional scenes.
I don’t find this drama funny at all. The dialogue makes you feel like you have to laugh, but in actuality, it really isn’t all that funny. I watched up to episode 7 and stopped.
Does any one know the website to watch this series with english sub. It takes so long for them to translate any series in Vietnamese….LOL
I love to watch but the Megavideo takes so long to upload. Right now I am watching the Beauty Knows no Pain and love every minute of it. GTL is showing too but not interest that much…Thanks a bunch
I LOVE THIS SERIS !! SO FUNNY CHARMAINE,FALA.MOSES.LINDA AND THE WHOLE ENTRIE CAST ACT REALLY GOOD. I JUST LOVE THIS SERIS.right now im watching the CBML in
cantonese. im still waiting for the vietnamese dub to come out. even though i dont understand a lot. BUT IT SOO FUNNY THE MOST IS CHARMAINE HER FACE EXPRESSION HAHAH LOL!!! SOME OF YOU MIGHT NOT ENJOY THIS SERIS. BUT IF YOU ARE TIRED, BORDED, STRESS. WATCHING THIS SERIS HELP A LOT. I LAUGH TO I CRY. I CANT WAIT TILL THE VIETNAMESE DUB COME OUT > SO I CAN HEAR WHAT THEY ARE SAYING!!
Charmaine started out not that good in this series. But, she’s getting more natural now. I find her expression funny.
I like to watch Jaak Sing than Gong Chu .
I think Charmaine is better than Linda but she’s not that good. Screw TVB if she gets Best Actress with this.
I only watch CBML and not GTL but I know that GTL is criticized for being boring, draggy, long winded, dark lighting, and flat storyline with no exciting points or climaxes. CBML has some bad actings expecially from Linda who has fake expressions and bad stiff dictions and OTT actings from some cast but the series is praised for being exciting and a good stress reliever.
Gong Chu is also criticized for being exaggerated , bad acting and vulgar callouts . You can love Gong Chu but I require you not to wrongly criticize Jaak Sing like that . You reminded me of a fan of Gong Chu in a blog who is very harsh on Jaak Sing .
Jaak Sing is a family soft drama on the depth and love of the family . The script is very interesting and the actings are simply amazing . Zhao Lin captured the audiences with her awesome sweet acting . You can watch it to understand more about a life . This drama is not for anyone who have bubble head .
I’m currently watching both dramas and I actually enjoy GTL more than CBML. I know the HK audience may have the opposite preference in that CBML has better ratings. But I personally don’t like the overacting in the series and I think it’s trying to hard to “funny” that it tends to get exaggerated, thus the exagerrations in acting from a majority of the cast. I think that it is overrated. GTL to me actually is more realistic as it is something people can relate to- conflicts and betrayals in family, love, business and friendships. The acting is superb and although Bosco’s evil portrayal can be improved,I think I like the character developments in GTL a lot more. I think the story is starting to get interesting. I think complex characters make any story more interesting.
I can’t accept Chow Yun Fatt praising Moses for his OTT acting and bad comedy delivery in CBML. Moses failed to be funny!! I have a feeling TVB will let Moses win this year after Chow Yun Fat likes him. Screw TVB.
There are a lot of news and coverage about Moses and Ray battling for Best Actor and although I don’t watch GTL, based on Moses terrible acting in CBML I prefer Ray. No offense to Moses fans.

I agree that the the casts try too hard to be funny and their acting becomes horribly bad instead.
I don’t know about GTL but I believe your words since Ray and Damian already had great and superb acting since DOL days. Bosco can improve more he still has more to learn in acting.
Vivian, I think you should give GTL a try to see if you like it. I know it does not have very high ratings, but I don’t think that it equates to a bad series. Some of the highest rated series, like Beyond, Moonlight, MOL, were not as good as I expected them to be. Maybe because of all the hype, I expected the series to be a lot better than they turned out and I was actually disappointed. I think those popular series were overrated. The only popular ones I truly enjoyed were Rosy Business and E.U. This year, I really enjoyed Fistful of Stances and I like When Lanes Merge even more than higher rated series like MOL, GW, Watchdog. Just my two cents.
Being some who always thought Moses to be natural comedian, I was a bit disappointed. I agree that Moses is not very funny in this series. He was better in his older comedies like ‘Gentle Crackdown’ and ‘Better Halves’.
TVB’s idea of comedy is getting more and more outrageous.. their idea of comedy is to have actors respond to silly situations with ridiculous expressions and OTT reactions…they don’t understand subtle humour..sometimes saying the funniest line with the straightest of faces will get the most laughs..

I only like Ray in GTL so it’s hard to watch since I heard the storyline moves too slow and there are no exciting scenes. FOS have high ratings too but I enjoyed the storyline. Natalie Tong improved a lot in that series and is a very good actress! Her part is one of the reason I stick to watch other than the touching family scenes. She has better skills than promoted actresses like Linda and Kate. TVB should promote her more! I also love Selena she’s so pretty and have solid and likeable acting skills.
I love Rosy Business a lot. The story is very solid and Sheren and Wayne are great!! Susan Tse and Pierre Ngo are also great as family members who always cause troubles to the family!
