Anita Yuen: “Chilam Cheung Does Not Know How to Lie!”
Due to his youthful handsome looks, Chilam Cheung (張智霖) is popular among women and often romantically linked with female costars. Anita Yuen (袁詠儀), Chilam’s wife for 12 years, expressed her hardworking efforts to keep their relationship stable. One time, the couple were on bad terms due to a tabloid’s report.
Asked if she is worried Chilam will eventually have a change of heart, Anita replied, “Not that much. If he were to change, he would change nonetheless. I’ve seen so many hook-ups and break-ups within this industry. I know some things can’t be forced. Maybe one day, I’ll be the one to have a change of heart! No one knows what’s going to happen in a relationship. The most important thing is learning how to stay on the same step as him.”
Anita revealed that Chilam’s humorous nature is the main cause of the media’s rumors. “He is a very funny person, and he acts like that towards everyone. But some women might think he is hinting something! I told Chilam that although he has no such thoughts, other women might do.”
Although Anita did not fully believe all of the media’s reports, she often questioned her husband in a jokingly way. “I said to him, ‘I don’t understand. You and I both film, but why did I never had any rumors?’ Chilam is not a smart liar. As long as you keep questioning him, he will sooner or later expose everything.”
The couple usually sort out the rumors in a reasonable way, but there was one time in which a problem between the two actually occurred. Anita revealed that Chilam exclaimed she did not trust him and did not feel secure. “After our argument, I thought about it for a whole night and finally saw through. I phoned him and said, ‘You’re supposed to be providing me with a sense of security. It’s not about me trusting you. As long as you make me feel secure, I will trust you automatically.’”
After Anita’s words, Chilam seemed to have thought through the matters as well. Since then, he was careful around female costars and avoided acting extremely hilarious. Anita added, “He handles everything well, except for when he’s around Christine Ng (伍咏薇). Those two play around crazily with each other, and can spark rumors at any time.”
With years of experience as Chilam’s wife, Anita shares how she deals with him. Anita revealed that she gained perspective after a discussion with Carina Lau while filming He’s a Woman, She’s a Man (金枝玉葉). Anita revealed that Carina taught her that a man is like a kite, in which he is allowed to fly, but should be reined in at the appropriate time.
Anita said, “I’m not very controlling towards him, but I’m also not someone who doesn’t care. I’ve used this method for many years. Nowadays, if he goes out to dinner with friends, he would be the one giving me a call to ask why I didn’t call and question his whereabouts.”
Anita admitted she probably loves Chilam more than he loves her. “Of course I love him more, because I need him. He understands me very well.” She added, “Every time I’m unhappy, he would instantly provide me with positive energy. Having someone by my side who can always make me happy is very important.”

You know the saying that men don’t think with their brains rite? The most important thing is they should ensure they’re never caught in a situation where they’re alone with a member of the opposite sex unless they’re sure they can withstand any form of seduction.
Men who are the responsible types would usually be the target of cheap women who find it a challenge to snatch someone good for themselves to hang onto. Because they know these types would not chuck them aside once they finished playing.

Agree. The ‘test’ on Anita is over – I mean, she did not stray when she was at her peak of her career. Now the ‘test’ is on Chilam. Just hope their marriage would last through both their successes. Especially now that Anita, like other women her age is considered ‘on-the-shelf’ while Chilam, as a man is still considered a good catch.
Honestly, how can a 40 yo woman compare to a youthful woman half her age (regardless of whether plastic or not). If her man is trustworthy, she has nothing to fear. Otherwise, there’s nothing much that can be done to ensure his fidelity.
Every marriage takes work and compromising and it is great that Anita is trying so hard since she loves him so much. I feel they are so lucky to have each other. Of course in any relationship, one always loves the other one a bit more. What she says goes both ways, but more applicable to the male species. Men should be given freedom within a certain boundary (or given the impression they have freedom), but you need to jerk on the line once in a while to keep him on his toes.

I truely wish they’ll last until death set them apart. But being an actor surrounded by beautiful peoples everywhere and perhaps kissing or hugging some of them could be part of the job during filming are just too risky, and marriage itself was already hard. given how Blood Elfish Hong Kong People behave, I can’t believe that adultery is so rampant there – everyone talks so much verbally aggressive crap that it’s a miracle that anyone socializes beyond the most shallow level nevermind what’s to have anything more to do with one another – I just can’t imagine developing multiple relationships like that. It would look so silly to third party observers.
