Michael Miu Is Not Leaving TVB Any Time Soon

After turning down the offer to star TVB’s upcoming drama Midas <點金勝手>, rumors claimed that Michael Miu (苗僑偉) was on the road to sign with HKTV. It was alleged that good friend Felix Wong (黃日華), who left TVB for HKTV in 2012, was the one who recommended Michael to sign with TVB’s rival station.

Both Michael and Felix denied the rumors. Michael stated that he still has contract with TVB, and revealed that he is in final negotiations to film a new TVB drama this coming January. Michael, however, did not rule out the possibility of working with HKTV in the future.

Michael clarified that he is enjoying his time at TVB and is not planning to leave the station anytime soon. He said, “What’s most important is for it to be a happy collaboration. Take Royal Medic and I for example. Six years down the road, I’m still endorsing for them. TVB and I have a great relationship. Why leave?”

Michael also expressed his desire to film a new movie in the future. “It really comes down to fate. When a movie is choosing the cast, I am also choosing the movie. It’s not that I’m being picky. There are a lot more films and television shows to choose now, but I still need to find the right role. I’ve been in this industry for many years, and I still have many friends whom I have never collaborated with. I still have a lot of spark left.”

  1. Michael needs to request TVB to make a “Dicey Business 2” along with Bobby. That collaboration would be an epic sequel, IF good old classic TVB doesn’t screw it up!

    1. That would be great if they actually can come up with a great script. Since TVB is known to screw up sequels (War and Beauty), it might not be such a great idea ):

    2. No Dicey Business was good as a stand alone series, a sequel would ruin it. Look at what happens to Triumph 2. Besides there’s no point for a sequel, it ended the way it is.

      1. But the message of the series was already brought out, there is nothing further they can add to it. Even Jessica said so herself, it was perfect the way it is. Michael got what he deserved, Bosco learned what it’s actually like in the outside word, Bobby found his brother and regain his confidence and pride again….there isn’t anything they can come up with. This is not Armed Reaction, this drama was never intended for a sequel and they should keep it that way.

    3. I just wish that TVB would come up with something new instead of just remaking series/classic or trying to make sequels. But I guess they are out of ideas so have no choice.

    4. No sequels and remake please. TVB needs to be creative and come up with better scripts and stories. If they want to do remake maybe adapting Japanese series or manga, or some of the stories from Chinese writers, but of course with acknowledgement to avoid people saying that they are plagiarising. They should adapt Hotaru no hikari!

  2. What’s Royal Medic? Is it a charity group or EMS or something?
    Didn’t know he endorsed anything.

  3. I guess he won’t leave because he knows what he can – and cannot get at TVB.

  4. Me too… Love Michael…hard to find all the series he was part of though… especially the old fighting ones…

    1. Are you looking for a list of the series he was in or you mean that it’s hard to find his older series to watch? If it’s the latter, then yes, I agree…Michael has been active in the industry since 1980 and that era was when TVB thrived in terms of producing wuxia series. I definitely recommend watching Michael’s older series if you’re able to find them…I think you’ll enjoy most of them.

      1. I still remember how young and fresh Micheal looked in the Hawk/Fei Ying with Angie and Adam. He was a cameo but it was great to see him.

    2. A number of Micheal’s ancient series were released on DVD/VCD so you should be able to find them.

  5. Since TVB is in the process of re-doing classics, maybe they should put Michael back into the Chor Lau Heung role…a drama about CLH’s life in his later years…

    1. Interesting ideas… But CLH had 7 books and Micheal only acted in one of them so maybe if he did repraise the role of CLH, he can do another book. I don’t think there is any story about his later years unless TVB just makes it up but that will not be a good idea.

      1. that will not be a good idea.

Lol, you are absolutely correct. I fear TVB will ruin Michael’s CLH for me. I wonder if they’re hiring script-writers? 😛

      2. Yea, I really lament the golden years of TVB. But it is sad now that everything has changed because everyone has left. I am not just talking about the actors and actresses but also the script writers, directors, producers, etc… All of the people that we do not see on screen are also the ones that make a big difference and make sure a series is decent. Without all of the behind the scenes staff workers even all of the best veteran actors and actresses cannot save any series.

    2. Yay!!!!!!! I would watch it. I love his role as CLH the most. So handsome and charismatic.

    3. Please no! TVB doesn’t have the resources to make a good wuxia series nowadays, so I would rather they not touch the classics at all! All they would succeed in doing is ruin our memories of the ‘originals’ (similar to what they did with TITS)…so definitely NO THANKS!!!

      1. I would not say that they do not have the resources. It’s the fact that they are too cheap to fork out the dough to make a good wuxia series. They can easily go to China and film a decent series, but it is the fact that they do not want to which is why they are making mostly modern series lately.

      2. @HTS: By ‘lack of resources’, I was referring more to ‘people’ rather than money. With the departure of so many artists as well as behind the scenes people, TVB is experiencing a major ‘talent drain’ right now, so that definitely erodes my confidence in their productions. Ever since Mona Fong was ‘removed’ and Charles Chan officially took over, money has no longer been an issue like it was before….it’s actually kind of ironic if we think about it…back when TVB still had the ‘talents’, they were ‘ruled’ by a stingy boss (Mona Fong) who wouldn’t let them spend money…now that they have a boss who is more than willing to spend money, they no longer have the ‘people’ that they need…

      3. @llwy12,
Oh so that’s what you meant. You are so right. TVB is doomed if they continue on like this… They are lacking both on screen and off screen staff. I wonder who can save them now??

      4. They could get high ratings if their next production is called “The Fall of TVB”…but it has to be a documentary.

Remember the good old days of TVB Anniversaries when the staff cheered for their company and talked about how great it is? These days, it just feels like they’re shoving it down our throats when they can’t even convince themselves that they love their employer.

      5. @Shrimpboat: Yup…aiye, every time I think back to how it once was, makes me want to cry….and don’t even get me started on the ‘old’ TVB Anniversary Galas…those used to be such highly anticipated events where all the artists – whether lead or supporting – would come out and support the station. And not just the galas either….part of the reason why TVB’s series were so good back then was also because the atmosphere was different back then and everyone was willing to come together for a common cause.

I was watching Cook Away Lady May over the weekend and Kathy Chow was the guest star being interviewed by May Jeh (old-timers will probably remember May Jeh, as she held the equivalent of Virginia Lok’s position back in the 80s). Kathy talked about how she started in the industry (which is pretty much common knowledge, but it was still great to reminisce) and her first series being “TheYangs Saga” back in 1985. That series is a classic example of what TVB used to be capable of – that series came about because TVB was “at war” with ATV at the time, so they brought together every single one of the station’s top artists and behind the scenes crew in a short amount of time to film a high quality production that blasted ATV out of the water. Every single artist who participated in that production had other series that they were busy filming at the time, yet the minute they received the call, they immediately dropped everything to participate (not because they were forced to, but because they truly wanted to)….

Such a shame how bad things have gotten. I know it’s impossible, but sometimes I can’t help thinking — bring back Uncle Six, dammit!!

  6. I love Micheal since his early days and when he re-emerged after his ‘retirement’, it was happy days again. TVB needs to cast him as a baddie (he’s capable of that) besides police roles all the time, and perhaps an ancient drama which he hasn’t starred in yet since his emergence.

    Go Michael ♥

  7. I would love to see a Michael Miu – Yeung Pan Pan collaboration. They were my favorite onscreen couple in the 1980s – Yeung Hong and Muk Nim Ci!

    1. Haha…funny you mention them. There’s a picture that Yeung Pan Pan uploaded of the 2 of them just a few days ago…they were both at the same event and took a ‘reunion’ pic together! Though I will say that Pan Pan hasn’t really kept up as well as Michael…her age definitely shows in her recent pics….but still, it was great to see the 2 of them together (I think Felix was also at the same event…the 3 of them should have taken a pic together — then it truly would have been a LOTCH reunion…)

      1. Do you have the link to the photo? I would love to see it. I have seen a photo of Sharen from a few years ago and she did not age that well. However, I noticed that when she was young too. Her type of face looks good if you are young, but will age really fast… It is great to see them all together again though. I wish that Sharen came to the LOCH reunion held in China a few years ago. It is great to have these kinds of reunions though.

      2. @llwy12,
Thanks so much and it is great to see them together again. Great that Sharon uploaded that for her fans. IS she doing behind the scenes work now?? Last time I heard she is now a producer and was looking forward to working with Austin Wai again but sadly he passed away before she got the chance to.

I wish that Felix took a photo with them too. I am sure they are all on good terms so I don’t think Felix would ignore them. Thanks a million for sharing!!! It is so sweet and touching to see the veterans together again.

      3. @HTS: Yes, Sharon is definitely still in the industry, except she switched to behind the scenes work instead. She actually has her own production company and also stunt/action choreography training studio (she is involved in training the younger generation on things such as dance, martial arts, acting, etc.)….her ‘kids’ have actually performed on a few TVB charity shows and also participated in movies.

Yup, I definitely miss many of the veterans as well. Great to see that many of them are doing well though!

  8. I think he is the most handsome actor. I am sure there are other actors better than he is. But I like him the most. I have started to watch his series since I was 6,7 years old :).

  9. He has no facial expression. Sometimes with glassly eyes… Creepie…

  10. TVB should give him some opportunities to play different role or character, comedies and so on, than just those da ge da or big boss or serious type series. Think he can play well too, so he doesn’t always look that stiff.
