Tavia Yeung: “My Career is Not Yet at its Peak!”
Some people say that at 34-years old, Tavia Yeung’s (楊怡) career has reached its peak. Although she is named TV Queen and has gained audience recognition, Tavia denied the saying. She continues to work hard and believes there are many more eye-opening opportunities awaiting her in mainland China. “I may be able to experience another peak,” she exclaimed.
In 2011, Tavia filmed The Emperor’s Harem <后宫>, which was her first and only mainland Chinese drama. She enjoyed collaborating with Ady An (安以軒), Patrick Tam (譚耀文), and William Feng (馮紹峰), and hopes for more chances within the mainland Chinese market in the near future.
One Step at a Time
Entering the entertainment industry in 1999 after graduating from TVB’s acting class, Tavia received her first major award after nine years of hard work. Her memorable role as Yiu Kam Ling in Beyond the Realm of Conscience <宮心計> earned her the title “My Favorite Female Character” at the 2009 TVB Anniversary Awards. Last year, Tavia won Best Actress for her outstanding performance in Silver Spoon, Sterling Shackles <名媛望族>.
Compared to previous fadans such as Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼), Ada Choi (蔡少芬), and Jessica Hsuan (宣萱), spending more than ten years in the industry before receiving the Best Actress award is a long time. Hearing this, Tavia laughed and expressed, “I’ve never thought of making a comparison this way. But within these ten years, I’ve never missed out on anything.”
Indeed, Tavia seems to have received all the awards TVB has to offer. In 2003, she won the Most Improved Female Artist award for her role in Vigilante Force <智勇新警界>. In 2008, she was named Best Supporting Actress for her amazing performance in the grand production, Moonlight Resonance <家好月圓>. “In ten years, I brought home four important awards in recognition of my acting skills. I deserve giving myself more motivation.”
Asked if she is envious of those who received awards in a shorter period of time, Tavia expressed, “I don’t believe in reaching the sky with just one step. It’s easy to fall down that way. No one in the world is able to do it. Receiving an award depends on a variety of factors.” Tavia added that those who do receive awards within a short period of time have the talent. Everyone undergoes different experiences, so she is never envious of others.
In comparison to Tavia, many are unfamiliar with her elder sister, Griselda Yeung (楊卓娜), who constantly portrays cameo roles. In terms of how her sister has still not earned the audience’s recognition, Tavia explained Griselda is more focused on hosting variety programs. The sisters often help each other out as colleagues and provide each other with motivation. Since Tavia often lacks sleep with her hectic filming schedules, Griselda constantly reminds her to take care of her diet and teaches her ways to keep herself energized.
In a Happy Relationship
In September last year, Tavia’s gossip-clear image was crushed from the “car-shaking” incident with Him Law (羅仲謙). She admitted she was extremely hurt from the media’s fabricated reports, which had sexualized the incident. “I was very upset at the time, but one becomes smarter with experience. I’m not going to care about the things I cannot control.” Tavia emphasized she would never have done anything like the tabloids suggested.
What are Tavia’s thoughts on having a relationship with a younger man? She expressed, “It’s an ‘older-sister younger-brother’ relationship whether the age difference is one year or ten years. The most important thing is getting along comfortably with one another. If a couple isn’t comfortable together, they will fight no matter what their age difference is.” Tavia admitted she is currently in a happy romantic relationship. However, she will leave the time for marriage up to fate.
Does she admire boyfriend Him’s muscular body? Tavia jokingly replied, “He is not muscular since he’s getting a little belly fat. I have a little belly fat too! It’s okay as long as things are suitable!”

I think Tavia needs to branch out and film more mainland series. Her acting is not going to get any better if she continues filming with TVB. TVB is a sinking ship!
it’s not like she doesnt desire to do so, it’s just that her schedule in the past/present doesnt allow her to since tbb keeps lining her up with their own series after series. And i think every artists’ should have opportunities to branch out, it’s a way to improve to be able to experience acting opposite different actors instead of the same group.
I think she needs to stand up for her own interested be firm with TVB so that they consciously change her schedule to cater to filming in mainland.

Tavia and Wayne line are in the same category for me. They need to leave TVB and make it big. No matter how good of an actor/actress you are, if you don’t have the appropriate rest and are over-worked, you won’t have the energy to do your best.
Wayne is already huge in TVB. He only need to leave TVB for money.
But I don’t think Wayne is completely after the money. I feel like he just wants to earn enough and be with his family. He seems pretty content with what he has right now, IMO.
Jessica and Ada only spent 6 years to get the Best Actress title.
Yeah I agree with you. If you count on the years that they spent, do you known how many years for Michelle Yim, Liza Wang, Sheren Tang to get get the TVB best actress?
I won’t count on how many years. Sometimes luck is a part of the award (great character, good partner, great script).
I forgot to add. the TVB awards started in 1997.
Not just luck, TVB bribery also comes into play. I didn’t think Gigi Lai deserves her nest female award. It should have been Sheren that year. Or Myolie Wu didn’t deserve her award either as her performance was not great.
Actually, I think Griselda’s popularity has shot up this year due to her popular pairing in Come Home Love. They get hired for functions and even got hired for an advertisement together. She’ll never reach Tavia’s popularity, but I think she is doing pretty good for herself.

In past news, Griselda also owns a clothing shop, but I’m not sure if the store is still in operation. Griselda’s accomplishments are not limited to the screen.
I read a while back that they had to shut it down (Griselda was partnering with another friend) because the business wasn’t going well and they were losing profit instead of gaining. Both have different persuits in life. There is no such thing as gaining too much success, i’m sure Grisleda wouldnt mind being more popular or ‘catching up’ with her sister Tavia if she could, but it seems like she’s happy and content with what she can achieve atm and to life a simple life with her family.
I’m not bashing her, but i don’t really enjoy her acting. I find it mediocre. N I don’t like her look. I think her sister look more real than Tavia.
Please watch Beyond the Realm of Conscience and say her acting is mediocre. I literally HATE her in that drama….her character is so evil I just want to slap her across the face lol.
I wanted to slap Tavia so many times watching that show. She was 1000 times better than Charmaine in BTROC! I must admit I’m not a great fan of Charmaine and Tavia, but I do enjoy good performances from them. When it comes to crying scene Tavia still have room to improve and learn from Charmaine. Also, most if not all of Tavia’s roles since BTORC are forgettable. She really needs to be more selective and find rooms for expansion.
Charmaine was too kind and just in BTROC, I think that’s what made her seem unrealistic, especially for people at that period of time. Tavia definitely has room for improvement, but I think she’s already at her prime. Her acting is way better than before.
I don’t think she was that great in that series either, you wanted to physically hurt her because her character was despicable not necessarily on the acting. Like how Sonjia’s character is in Perish In the Name Of Love, her acting was bad but many people wished harm upon her because of how her character was written not because she was good on that row. Like in the recent Reality Check with the younger brother’s girlfriend, there is so much threat to her because of her character not the acting. Every character that was written as a a despicable human being is of course hated. I just think Tavia got the attention because of how her character was written not necessarily on her acting but then again this is how I see it.
that is what i admire most about tavia, she worked up step by step and to this day is still the only TVB artist to have won all four major awards, taking each step progressively and finally winning the highly coveted TV Queen. i admire her hard work and dedication, i am confident she will have many more career peaks in her lifetime!
I don’t see her having much success in Mainland China as the leading actress in ensemble pieces because competition is stiff.

Tavia finally admits to the relationship!! Even though she did in indirectly lol but like who else could she be dating? They are really cute together and seems happy or else tvb artists wouldn’t tease them so much 🙂
