Nancy Wu Does Not Mind Playing Supporting Roles
While many artists continuously fight for the number one spot at TVB, Nancy Wu (胡定欣) has a rather different mindset. She does not strive to become TVB’s top actress – she only hopes that she gains the appreciation in the eyes of audience members. Nancy’s first drama when she started her career was Triumph in the Skies <衝上雲霄> and now ten years later, where she reprises her role of Coco in the sequel, viewers can see the genuine growth and change in Nancy’s acting.
Even though Nancy’s role in Triumph in the Skies 2 remains as a supporting character, she gained a lot more appreciation. “The series is popular itself, and my character has stirred up a lot of controversies. After the broadcast though, I realized that I became a lot more popular.” This goes to show that despite having controversial publicity surround a character, there will always be audience members who will appreciate the artist.
After winning Best Supporting Actress last year, Nancy’s hard work in the last decade finally paid off. She will lead in Mr. & Mrs. Bean <貓屎媽媽> and Gilded Chopsticks <食為奴>. Acting abilities are gained through time and experience, and Nancy is not one to mind if she gets a lead role or not – as long as the role is well received by the general audience.
Nancy explained, “I don’t want to talk about the role positions and quality of the characters together. Sometimes, supporting roles have a lot of potential. The media has asked me if I’m unhappy that I’m still considered a second line actress and has yet to become a lead. I don’t want to think about this question. Maybe everyone should stop paying attention to what line of actress I am and just pay attention to my actual performance. What line an artist is and her performance are two separate matters. As long as people think I’m the lead actress in their hearts, then that’s good enough for me. It’s better than putting a label on me.”
Marriage and Children
Now that her career is stabilized, it is should be time for Nancy to start thinking about the next chapter in her personal life. However, after one year of dating and marriage rumors with her boyfriend, Nancy continuously maintains her mentality of career first, family second. Not wanting to rush into anything, Nancy is leaving the idea of marriage until later.

Always like her. Glad she’s finally being recognized!!!
Support Nancy!!
She’s good at every role. I particularly like her evil roles though , haha. She’s so good at that.
What a good actress in TVB? She only cares about her performance and people’s appreciation, and not her leading status in TVB.
Nancy can act and happy for her finally can get the lead roles. she much better and now days fadans.
Nancy is a real triple threat, she can act and dance, and her singing is not bad too. Should have been promoted more than those beauty pageants people like Christine Kuo, Eliza etc….
NOOO NANCY! I want to see you lead! It’s the only was to see more of you onscreen. I know some says she’s a good supporting actress…but she’s so good that it makes the weak first-lead actresses look bad! 😛
I’m not mentioning names!
Nancy isn’t listed as the first lead in her series but she has heavy weight roles
Maybe it’s better to not be lead. Once she becomes lead, TVB will stick her to just one kind of character.
She appreciates audience opinion more than TVB’s opinion of her; I admire her for that.

Definitely agree with the above statement. Actually, I’ve noticed that in recent years, more and more artists have made such statements — that they care more about audience recognition than company’s acknowledgement (via promotion, awards, getting chosen for particular roles, etc.) I think alot of artists are starting to realize how important audience opinions truly are (though of course, there are alot of factors that play into this change in mindset)…
I start to notice her after watching “Twins of Brothers”. That was many many years ago.
She acted really well and I hope that she will end up with Ron instead.
And in Seasons Of Love, it’s proven that she can definately pull a series!
In all 4 stories, I only interested and watched the one with Nancy in it. Just too bad, the character/storyline isn’t that well but Nancy acting is w/o doubts, shines!
If Natalie Tong and even Sire Ma are given the opportunities to be female lead and worse Jason Chan as a male lead, why can’t TVB spare a chance for Nancy?!
And forget to mention her brilliant performance in Gloves Comes Off. She is the only person that shines in that drama!
Not Kevin cheng, not Natalie and certainly not Raymond Wong.
Agree. Nancy Wu was the best artiste in “Gloves Come Off”.
agree nancy outshines everyone in gloves come off! even kevin although i love kevin a lot
Yup.. I took notice of her in Glove Comes Off. She outshone everyone in that series.
Yes, Nancy’s performance in Gloves Come Off was outstanding. You’re so right about Nancy versus Natalie Tong and Sire Ma. Nancy is so much better than those two.
By the way, Jayne chose a beautiful photo for this article. She looks smokin!
I started noticing her from her roles in Legend of a demi-god with Linda Chung and them as well as TITS 1. I really love her acting 😀
What brand foundation does celebrities use? It look so good and flawless.
I think it’s a brand called “Photoshop” you can definitely get that online. Just search it up 🙂
Hahaha! So true!
I think it’s best she stay as a supporting actress, look what happened to Wayne after his promoted status it’s all typecast and no one really likes seeing him anymore at least for me.
Wayne is a bit too mature for siu sang roles, and he is not tall or good looking either. However, Nancy Wu is young, tall and quite pretty. I don’t see why she can’t be promoted as a fadan in TVB.
Notice how majority of the Fadans are promoted since day one or two years to that status. Nancy has been around for over 10 years, I just don’t think it’s possible. Some artistes are just for supporting roles and there goes Nancy. Besides her career is going great now and she’s trying out new and different roles once you’re promoted too much attention is on you and I just don’t think she wants that kind of attention.
majority of the fadans are promoted since day one or two years to that status
————————————————————
It is true that most of the fadans were promoted during the first 2 years in the past. However, TVB is now running short of young fadans; they even have to promote those non-Chinese/Cantonese speaking girls so badly who cannot act. Why not Nancy Wu ………… just because she has been an actress of TVB for 10 long years. It is not fair to Nancy then. Sharon Chan has also been with TVB for a long time, and she was promoted highly in the last year or so.
If Nancy Wu does not want that kind of attention, it is a different story, but not because she is no good for acting 1st lead roles.
Exactly what she said in this interview just hinted that she doesn’t want that attention and nor does she care about her status with the company. I gotta say Nancy’s position is higher than Sharon note how she’s leading over her in Midas, same with Selena. Just because one can act does not mean they’ll lead, there are other factors to consider than just acting talents that’s just how the industry goes. She can act but so can other artistes who are also still in supporting roles. It’s not about being fair in fact that word don’t exist in this industry, there are many other supporting artistes who are far superior in acting than the ones that are leading but that’s a whole other story. This also applies in a normal person’s work lifestyle as well, there are those to who work harder and do better than those who are above them and being promoted faster than they do. It’s just how it is.
It is quite true though.
Well, just wish Nancy good luck!
“She will lead in Mr. & Mrs. Bean and Gilded Chopsticks .”
so happy that nancy confirmed as the lead! so the producer wasn’t lying when he said the story and title is about nancy! screw tvb who put up the trailer in beijing promotion depicting eliza as the lead with bosco! what is tvb thinking! if anyone has potential in mainland it’s nancy but the trailer is mostly depicting eliza as the lead and might give wrong inpression to the mainland investors! so unfair!
It is a good start for Nancy Wu even she may not be listed as the 1st lead actress.
As per Wikipedia, Michelle Yim is listed as 1st lead actress in “Mr. & Mrs. Bean”, and Joey Meng as the 1st lead actress in “Gilded Chopsticks”. Hope her screen time will be as much, if not more, as the 1st lead actress.
At least she plays heavy supporting roles, and plays them well.
lOVE Nancy!!
Nancy should rush into more major roles from now on ’cause she ages not very well. TVB has seen the coming back of many ‘uncles’, but such thing might not happen with actresses
Nancy is a good actress and should be given lead role in time to come.
Supporting or 2 lead roles are usually more interesting take ekin and Jordon for an example out of the 2 ekin is the lead but Jordan got better roles and was the better actor in movies or series
Jordan and Ekin are both equal as lead actors, if you’re comparing to the Y&D series they were both lead. Even if Ekin was the leader of the group, Jordan also stood out in fact after the first movie of that series it was more focused on Jordan’s character than Ekin. Jordan in Macau, him fighting for branch leader position….etc. I would say Jordan outshine Ekin in that series and individually they’re both equal and to be honest Jordan has more on screen charisma than Ekin.
I would love for Nancy Wu to be a lead in a TVB series. I think that she is a more versatile actress than some of the lead actors and actresses in TVB these days. It’s a shame that TVB doesn’t promote her to lead roles. I think that she shines in pretty much every role she plays and makes her characters interesting to watch.
Like her acting skills.. able to handle all sorts of characters type of female artiste.. nancy 加油..I forsee u can make it but be patience for a while more.. ^.^ timing & opportunity play very important part..
Agree, especially for female artistes. Once they are over 35, the chance of getting promoted is getting slimmer and slimmer. This applies to Joyce Tang, Elena Kong, etc.
