Fan Bingbing Appears as Blink in New “X-Men” Trailer

After a minor role in the Chinese version of Iron Man 3, Fan Bingbing (范冰冰) will make a proper American superhero film debut in the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, in which she plays a teleporting mutant named Blink.

Days of Future Past, which features an ensemble cast including Australian actor Hugh Jackman, Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, and Scottish actor James McAvoy, serves as a sequel to 2011’s X-Men: First Class, a prequel film that detailed how the “X-Men” group came into being. A newly released trailer for Days of Future Past shows the cast from First Class joining with the cast from the original X-Men trilogy as the superheroes travel back in time to the 1970s in an attempt to prevent an apocalyptic future.

The trailer also gives fans their first view of Fan Bingbing as Blink, a mutant with the gift of teleportation. Apart from being able to teleport herself, she can displace groups of people, as well as portions of objects or people, and is also capable of creating portals in the air. With violet skin, green eyes, and distinct marks on her face, Blink instantly leaves an impression on viewers, despite appearing for only a few seconds in the trailer.

“We’re extremely honored that we were able to invite Fan Bingbing to take part [in this film],” said the producers of Days of Future Past. Since Blink is a follower of Magneto, who is seen as the villain, Fan Bingbing may not have as much screen time as that of a supporting actor on the traditional hero’s side. However, her appearance in Days of Future Past is sure to raise her international appeal and influence, which is undeniably already on the rise after she topped Forbes China Celebrity 100 List earlier this year.

Days of Future Past will open in theaters on May 23, 2014.
