Linda Chung Remains Uncertain About TV Queen Chances
Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣) is still doubtful about winning TV Queen despite given the honor at the TVB Stars Awards Malaysia on December 1. Formerly known as the MY Astro on Demand Favourites Awards, the precursor show often accurately predicted TVB Anniversary Awards’ ultimate winners. Over 100,000 Malaysian viewers participated in the poll this year, and a majority chose Linda as their TV Queen.
Linda was very emotional as she received the award, breaking down in tears as she thanked everyone, including the janitors. She spoke of her appreciation for the opportunities given and is grateful for the valuable experiences earned throughout her years at TVB. Linda also took home My Favorite TVB Character that night for her role in Brother’s Keeper <巨輪>, along with co-stars Ruco Chan (陳展鵬), Edwin Siu (蕭正楠), and Kristal Tin (田蕊妮).
After a night of celebrations, TVB artists returned to Hong Kong on December 2 to continue fulfilling their schedules. At the airport, Linda expressed happiness about her win and recalled the shock as her name was read. “When TV Queen was announced, all the memories since I entered the industry suddenly surfaced during the short walk to the stage. I am especially happy because I am acknowledged overseas.”
Although the win gave her a minor confidence boost, Linda feels that her fate at the TVB Anniversary Awards is still unpredictable. “I still feel that the two awards are unique from each other… [if I win both] people may suspect that the results are rigged.”
With one win each this awards season, the TV Queen spotlight is for the moment resting on Linda and her Brother’s Keeper co-star Kristal Tin. TVB continues to feed into Linda’s awards hype, re-airing her popular drama Witness Insecurity <護花危情> just weeks before December 16’s awards ceremony. Regardless of Linda’s thoughts on the matter, TVB seems quite determined to push her onto the throne.
No matter the outcome, Linda’s future at TVB is secure and her career will likely continue to see new heights. Politics aside, the only thing Linda is concerned about now is to avoid another tearful break down should she win again at the upcoming final fight.

Though I think Kristal Tin deserves TV Queen award more in “Brother’s Keeper”, I know you will have a lot of votes from your diehard fans. Your chance is pretty high.
Agreed, BA should go to the “nominee” who is best in acting (not most popular). Linda Chung does not deserve BA award this year. There are definitely better options (and more than one).
Yes, Kristal Tin deserves TV Queen award more in “Brother’s Keeper”, and again agree with @MW that BA should go to the “nominee” who is best in acting and definitely NOT most popular. People need to know how to distinguish these two, they are totally different. Being popular does not equal good acting. There are a lot of TVB actresses that are way way better than Linda,like Kristal, Esther, Joey, Ada, Sheren,and even Tavia. Those people should be the hot favorites and more likely to be TV queen. Linda! no, not TV queen material, still a long way to reach there

Yes, please let her win just to satisfy the long-held speculation that these awards are all rigged and passed out to whoever TVB wants to promote. Linda’s a terrible actress and her acting in Brother’s Keeper was mediocre at best. There’re more emotions in a piece of log. If she wins and Kristal Tin doesn’t, then we can all be pretty sure the TV queen aware is merely a popularity contest rather than a reflection of an actress’ talent.
By pure voting, no dispute. Since she is fan favourite. But by peers and on the account of her performance, it should not be for Brother’s Keeper where she was terrible and the character was one of the worst ever on screen. If she wins it is rigged. In no way for the so called Best Actress in that upcoming TVB awards supposedly by a set of panels or whatever should she ever win the TV Queen title. She is not ready yet and I am afraid by winning, she will face backlash and I will be one of them. I want her to win for a proper performance of a proper character.
Why do you all keep harping on her? How come no one’s saying the same thing about KM whom we know isn’t the best actor this year (in fact not in any year but let’s just focus on this year) but has been strongly hyped to win?

I think Linda’s chances depends mainly on who gets the fan-voted Favorite Character award. If fans vote for Linda for Favorite Character, I can see Kristal getting TV Queen. If Kristal wins Favorite Character, Linda has a better chance at TV Queen. Then there is also Kate who is the dark horse right now.
Myolie won with a horrible role two years ago, tavia won with an even worst role last year, who would be surprised that Linda will win this year? Linda say its not for her bk role it’s her performance all these years. It’s her turn to win.

Two different cases. LF only signed 1 year contract with Txb, he is eliminated for his short contract. Linda signed a 8 year one, Txb will push her more.

Although I am a fan of Linda Chung and I do support her, I do not think she should get BA yet. I feel that she is not at that level yet. I feel that TVB should wait until HK viewers see her role in Tiger Cubs 2 since Linda Chung did say that her role in Tiger Cubs 2 is different from her other roles.. I feel that some of the veteran actresses (eg. Joey Meng, Esther Kwan) and Tavia Yeung are more suitable candidates than her right now.
And I do hope that the judging panel won’t pick Linda Chung just because TVB is leaning towards her by airing “witness insecurity” again. :p

But the final decision is based on 50% professional judges and 50% public votes. Therefore, Linda will have a very good chance to win unless Kate Tsui beats her in “Bounty Lady”. Kate has a decent-sized fan base, but not Kristal Tin.

I just feel that if Sheren Teng could win BA awards twice, some actresses should be able to do the same. I watched some trailers of THC2 and I feel that Tavia should win it again.

TVB seems not promoting Tavia this year, being 2012 tvb queen she did not take part in TVB gala last month. I doubt she stand a chance this year.On call 36two rating & popularity not as good as last year
Happy for linda that she won the malaysia one. but adding in she has alot of fans around the world. good thing to increase her chances. tvb will probably give to kenneth and kristal/kate/tavia (cant decide) why i say kenneth is because tvb 46 anniversary gala most of the actor/actress voted for kenneth and wayne. as you can see wayne didnt have much votes compare to kenneth. so wayne’s chance is lesser. and kenneth has a lot of fan outside. aside from that, dayo’s drama has just started but i dont think it’ll be given to him.

I doubt it. If TVB do not care, why do they air “Witness Insecurity” now, just before the Awards Ceremony? They do it for Linda Chung ……… for her to get more votes from the public ……. because Linda did better in “Witness Insecurity” than in “Brother’s Keeper”. Rachel’s character will not get Linda to win TV Queen.
really? i thought witness insecurity has already been aired once in 2012,i think there are not much ppl who will watch it for a second time. you may be right,only if linda receive much more votes,only then she has probably a good chance,but otherwise it is unpredictable,since there are so many strong contenders this year.
“Witness Insecurity” similarities on “Brother Keeper Linda played,Wealthy family daughter, falling in love with middle class man. She need to jump out this similarities role just like Kate always role as Police Madam. Properly Tiger Cub 2 she could have breakthrough in acting

@sandcherry: Personally, I don’t think we should put much emphasis on the ‘public voting’ part because at the end of the day, we all know that TVB’s management controls the results and they will give it to whomever they want, regardless of the amount of votes. To me, just like with last year, the public voting piece is merely a ‘gimmick’ to get some positive PR for TVB and draw more attention to the show (and it’s also a way for TVB to put forth an image of ‘fairness’ and ‘credibility’ since their reputation in both areas have been in the toilet in recent years). Unless TVB actually reveals the exact number of votes each artist in the top 5 gets (and not just public votes but also the judges’ votes as well)….otherwise, it will be very hard for most people to believe that the results weren’t ‘rigged’ in some way….
@llwy12, following up on your point, does anyone wonder if Chilam’s win in Malaysia was rigged by any chance? Afterall, he confirmed his attendance really early which is unusual as the others only confirmed attendance after knowing that they had won something.There was also an article in jaynestars speculating that he had already been promised the Tv king award in exchange for his confirmed attendance.

@oscar: Since I’m not familiar enough with the Malaysia awards, I don’t feel I’m qualified to comment on those results. But I will say that if that awards show truly did adopt the ‘TVB way’ of doing things (which it sounds like it did based on the comments I’ve been reading about TVB producing the show this year), then I absolutely wouldn’t be surprised if the results were rigged. And seeing that TVB has that “no attendance = no award” policy (albeit unwritten), it’s quite possible that Chilam confirmed his attendance early to make sure that he has the best chance at the award (key word here is ‘possible’ — not saying that Chilam actually had such intentions)…
@sandcherry: I agree that TVB probably wants to convince us that Linda has the most votes. Personally though, I’m not convinced based on the fact that Linda’s performance wasn’t that good this year and her character in BK wasn’t likable at all. I would have believed it more last year, since Linda’s character in WI was very well-received and her performance was much better (though still not great). To me, the timing is off — TVB should have ‘hyped’ Linda last year, as it would have been more ‘believable’ and probably better ‘accepted’ at that time…doing it this year is going to create nothing but backlash. On a different note, I actually liked Linda better in Missing You….her character was more likable and Linda was definitely more in her realm (though it also shows that she is not very versatile as an actress and has difficulty playing roles outside of her usual ‘sweet innocent girl’ image).
Same goes for Kenneth Ma — his ‘best’ chance was also last year, as his performance this year has been mediocre. The difference is that TVB DID ‘hype’ him last year and he DID win the Favorite Character award, so at least things worked out. This year though — sorry, but I don’t feel that he should even be in the top 5, especially if it’s based purely on his performance in THC2.
@llwy12, thanks for your views and sensible comments, it’s nice to know what a HongKonger really thinks of the awards and how TVB works behind the scenes. I really hope there’re more people like you who will vote for the deserving winners and not blindly vote for those idols they worship knowing full well deep down in their hearts that their idols are not deserving of the award. Alas, i know that my wish is futile. Nevertheless, by some stroke of miracle, may the best person win on the 16th!

@oscar: Thank you. Though I’ll admit that trying to be ‘rational’ and ‘sensible’ with my comments isn’t always easy, but I try to make the effort whenever possible. I definitely agree with you about voting for the deserving winners rather than blindly voting for idols – but of course, as you pointed out already, the reality is that it’s virtually impossible given the way things work in this world.
As for whether I’ll be voting this year or not, it’s actually still up in the air (though I’m leaning towards ‘no’ at this point), especially knowing that my vote most likely won’t matter anyway, since TVB will give the award to whomever they please regardless of vote count – to me, it’s a waste of my time. Plus, there haven’t been any ‘stand-out’ performances for me this year (unlike last year) and, most importantly, I don’t agree with the nominations list for the most part (I already felt TVB management did a poor job with the nominations list last year, but this year, it’s even worse). This may sound ‘defiant’ and ‘cynical’, but oh well — since I don’t agree with the ‘rules’ that TVB put out, I would rather not ‘play the game’ at all.
Honestly if Kenneth Ma and Linda Chung wins it. . it’s pretty much the end of TVB. Honestly the peer voting is just as much as a popularity contest if opened to public. Does TV Queen award have anything to do with her personality? TV Queen award is given to actress with BEST acting in a drama series during the year. It does not have anything to do with actress going to parties. Kristal Tin is married with a husband. Her husband is very popular in film industries, of course she has to join him in parties.

agree that TV Queen award have nothing to do with personalities. Like Linda, people keep saying that she is sweet and nice, well, it does not mean she can HAVE the TV queen award or that IT IS TIME for her to get it, this is all wrong. You can’t get award by the fact that you work hard in acting (who doesn’t work hard) or that they have acted enough that they should get it, who said that is complete nonsense & BS. And it’s not about taking turns to get it, then this is a complete joke.
Kristal actually deserves TV queen more than Linda, because her acting was much better, and she can make her character become alive. Linda really lack on this, and I don’t see that in any of her dramas
I would be ok with either Linda or Krystal winning. TVB’s award will be determined by many factors and both of them have some advantage over the other. I do believe Krystal was better in her role but if public voting will be a factor, there’s no denying Linda has a strong fanbase.

I actually feel that Linda’s biggest chance at getting any type of award was last year, since she had 5 series in the running and also her performance + character in Witness Insecurity was pretty well received. I think that if she had been nominated in Favorite Character last year for WI, she probably would have gotten it (which is why I thought it was weird that she wasn’t even nominated) — or it would have been a tight race between her and Kate.
This year, Linda pretty much only has Brother’s Keeper and unfortunately, her performance + character were not well-received at all, so if she were to get an award (be it Favorite Character or TV Queen), there will likely be backlash….
I personally don’t really care because I already know that TVB isn’t going to give the award to the person who deserves it most (which, in my opinion, is Esther Kwan)….but I AM curious to see whether TVB is going to go the ‘safe’ route or the ‘risky’ route this year.
