Nicholas Tse Releases New Single “Love is the Greatest”
It has been over four years since Nicholas Tse (謝霆鋒) last released a music record. Switching his focus to acting, Nicholas’ last studio album Last <最后>, which was released in April 2009, inspired speculation for whether or not the Mandarin-language album would be his last music effort.
Nicholas made a surprise comeback to the music scene with the release of his latest single “Love is the Greatest” <愛最大>, the theme song to Nicholas’ upcoming film As the Light Goes Out <救火英雄>, a fire disaster film that follows a firefighting team who struggles to save Hong Kong from an impending disaster on the Christmas holidays. The film, which costars Shawn Yue (余文樂), Simon Yam (任達華), and Hu Jun(胡軍), will open in Hong Kong on January 2, 2014, and mainland China on January 7, 2014.
The single was released online on November 28, 2013 by EEG to commercial success, peaking at top ten positions on 903 and RTHK’s music charts. Produced and written by Nicholas himself, Nicholas began writing the song in early 2012, well before the production of As the Light Goes Out, which commenced principal photography in December 2012. Nicholas originally meant to have “Love is the Greatest” as the theme song for a planned concert, but decided that the song was better-fitted for an inspiring film like As the Light Goes Out.
Recorded in both Cantonese and Mandarin, the Cantonese version of “Love is the Greatest” features the rap vocals of Hong Kong hip hop group 24Herbs (廿四味), while the Mandarin version features rookie rapper Oho (歐豪), the first runner-up of this season’s Super Boy <快乐男声> singing competition.
The 21-year-old Guangzhou native said, “I’m so proud [of this song] and I really want to have a little part in the film, but it’s fine, as I was able to take part in the theme song. I hope everyone can pay close attention to the film and this song.”

Really like the Mandarin version, as Nicholas’ vocals are stronger than the Cantonese version. I’m also impressed by mainland rapper, Oho!
I normally prefer the Cantonese version when there’s two available but this time, the mandarin Nic was better. I still prefer the cantonese rapper though. I find cantonese to be a harder language to rap and normally more impressed that way.
Overall, Nic is not a good singer. This is at most a good song.
Prefer the Cantonese rap but agree that Nic’s vocals in the Mandarin version is stronger. I personally love this song and I’m slightly biased on this as its been ages since Nic last sang.
love it!
the rap sounds way better in cantonese :)the rapper’s pronunciation isn’t good. Nic’s singing in the mandarin ver is def better. it’ll be cool if they do the cantonese rap, plus mandarin nic part 🙂
I love Nicholas Tse and his songs and especially his face. <3 so glad hes releasing music again!
