Anita Yuen Takes Legal Action Against Mainland Scammer
Anita Yuen (袁詠儀) recently discovered that she was a victim of a Mainland business scam and angrily declared that she will take any action necessary to demand justice.
Recently, a group of farmers in Shanghai took to the streets to protest about a fashion company and accused Anita and fellow actress Rosamund Kwan (關之琳) for cheating them out of their hard-earned money. Addressing this false accusation on Weibo on January 20, Anita could not contain her frustrations as she confessed to being a victim of a scam and said that she is seeking legal help to locate the perpetrator.
She revealed further details during an interview the very next day. According to Anita, she was contacted by someone over a year ago with plans to collaborate on a fashion brand. Anita expressed interest in the project though the person did not make further contact. Some time later, she discovered that the scammer has opened up several fashion chain stores in China and promoted them using both Rosamund and her name and likeness without permission. When Anita confronted the owner of these stores, the person begged for forgiveness, claiming that the fraud was just a way to raise funds to treat sick relatives. Hearing this, Anita decided to let the matter go and did not file her complaints.
Unfortunately, the scam continued despite her kind gesture. Netizens spotted various new stores popping up across the country carrying her and Rosamund’s name. Angry that she is dealing with such a shameless cheat, Anita decided to take the scammer to court and made her story public to raise awareness of the situation. She also hopes to recruit the public’s help to track down the stores’ owner and to bring that person to justice. “I don’t understand how anyone can so blatantly ignore our laws and human rights. This would never happen in Hong Kong! I am making this story public because I hope everyone will help me conduct a human-flesh search to find this person. I will get to the bottom of this!”

Yeah yeah, you can cry all you want about it, but are you stupid enough to waste all those legal fees just to clear your name?………….this is China and this is how they do things there.
Agreed!
No, it’s not stupid. When a bunch of people accuse you, a famous person, of cheating them, you obviously need to do something about it or else your image will be tarnished in one way or another. And it’s not like she’s poor, so it’s just a small price to pay to clear her own name.
Also, just because that’s how it works in China doesn’t make it okay. Action needs to be taken in order to stop business owners from using people’s names to promote their own business. It’s not right and these people certainly deserve getting sued by Anita since she already gave them a chance to stop. They should have stopped but they didn’t.
Totally agree. This happening in China doesn’t make it right.. actually make it worst!!! I hope she will be able to find that person and have him/her punish!
I agree. Just because such cheating is rampant in China doesn’t make it right. Anita is doing the right thing!
It’s not stupid…just because it happened in China, doesn’t mean she shouldnt bother taking action. Once you’ve been accused and it’s taken to public, you’re name/image is affected. It’s as simple as that.
If she let this issue slip out of her hands again, she’s also telling/showing others that using her name without her permission is okay, and that she’s fine with it if she was not to take some sort of action against this person. Because chances are, others may think, oh, she didn’t take legal action, so she might just be kind enough to be lenient with others..
Also, even paying the legal fees i’m sure she would not have any financial issues lol. The name/image of a celebrity is extremely important, whether or not public chooses to believe the things they read is another story. I don’t blame her for being frustrated and angry, and choosing to take legal action. Keep in mind she gave this person a second chance, but this person through her forgiveness and their own chances out the window.
To Yuaida, you must be a very ignorant person.. If you are dragged into a scam and your good name is somehow tarnished, would you be taking legal actions to stop these allegations?
And yes, China is full of scammers be it on the street or on the internet.. This is NOT an excuse of NOT taking any actions. Infact, Chinese Government has been taking all steps and measures to curb these nonsense.
Please think before you post any stupid comments.
I think Yuaida is free to post whatever he/she thinks and it’s not nice of you to say someone else is stupid when you might just be very ignorant or anal yourself.
chilam was one of the highest earnings artist last year…so maybe financial not an issue here…wonder whats is rosamund response is towards this incident?
Don’t understand. What have these fashion outlets got to do with farmers ?
so the fashion brand is using her name?or is that she got cheated for investment?
If its just to clear her name we all believe she’s clear
exactly!
She is so small. Look at what China did to Apple.
