Fan Bingbing Emerges as “White Haired Witch” in New Movie Posters
A new set of promotional posters and stills for the upcoming 3D wuxia film, The Whited Haired Witch of Lunar Kingdom <白髮魔女傳之明月天國>, was recently released, giving fans their first full glimpse of Fan Bingbing (范冰冰) as the titular white-haired witch.
In White Haired Witch’s first trailer, Fan Bingbing remained raven-haired until the video’s last few seconds, which depicted her hair slowly turning from black to white. The newly released poster shows her half-dressed with long locks of white, silver-tinted hair, staring solemnly at the viewer with piercing blue eyes.
Fan Bingbing was the number-one choice for Lian Nishang, also known as the Jade Rakshasa, according to White Haired Witch’s executive producer Huang Jianxin (黃建新). “She has a candid and courageous side, which is very suitable for Lian Nishang, a character who dares to love and to hate,” he explained.
White Haired Witch also released three other posters featuring mainland Chinese actors Huang Xiaoming (黃曉明) as male lead Zhuo Yihang, Vincent Zhao (趙文卓) as constable Jin Duyi, and Wang Xuebing (王學兵) as villain Murong Chong. In an interesting design choice, when the posters are placed side by side, they form a continuous image, with Fan Bingbing’s white hair flowing through the background.
Since White Haired Witch is based on Liang Yusheng’s (梁羽生) well-known wuxia novel, Story of the White Haired Demoness <白髮魔女傳>, it has many preceding film and television adaptations. Huang Xiaoming shared that his character may differ a little from that of previous adaptations, since his version of Zhuo Yihang starts off as a naughty and unruly young man who yearns for freedom but is stuck as a disciple of the Wudang Sect. However, in the end he still becomes a noble swordsman.
The action scenes in White Haired Witch are choreographed by Hong Kong action director Stephen Tung (董瑋), who has won four Hong Kong Film Awards and two Golden Horse Awards for his action work. Fan Bingbing shared that in this film, the fighting scenes are more realistic and, unlike what many may assume, do not involve the characters flying around in the air.

haish…why HXM always has same expression most of the time.
Fan Bingbing is probably the worst white hair maiden I’ve seen – you can’t even recognize her in this poster (she kind of resembles Pace Wu). Brigitte Lin’s portrayal was iconic and really set the standard for everyone down the road. Li BingBing was unfortunately wasted in The Forbidden Kingdom and Ma Su was great in her series with Nicky Wu. The key is to find an actress who can express or “talk” with their eyes and sometimes with just looks from their eyes. Brigette, Li Bingbing and Ma Su all nailed it because you can see from their eyes the sense of anger, betrayal and sorrow all within one glance and unfortunately, Fan Bingbing doesn’t have those kind of eyes or the acting talent to cover those bases. Way to ruin one of my favourite wuxia novels
Wouldn’t judge till I actually see the movie. But agree that poster is terrible. What’s with the color contacts?
