Rachel Lee Hesitates Over Second Marriage

Rachel Lee (李麗珍) has lived an intriguing life in the last 48 years. Entering the industry when she was only a teenager, she became a sex siren in the 1990s and hit her highest popularity peak. After her divorce with her composer, Clarence Hui (許愿), Rachel took part in controversial threesome trysts with hairstylist Jacky Ma and his wife. Putting her torrid life behind her, Rachel opens up about raising her teenager daughter and falling in love again with ex-boyfriend, director-screenwriter Calvin Poon (潘源良).

Daughter Comes Before Work

When her daughter was only 4 years old, Rachel filed for divorce. Since then, Rachel raised her daughter as a single mother and immersed herself in housework chores. She woke up at 6 a.m. to make breakfast and pack  lunch for her daughter on school days, and planned day trips to Disneyland and Ocean Park. Growing up in a single-parent family, Rachel’s daughter was understanding and appreciated Rachel’s sacrifices.

Away from television screens for 13 years, Rachel was initially wary about her ability to adapt. However, after three months of filming Never Dance Alone <女人俱樂部>, she rediscovered her passion for acting. It was Rachel’s teenage daughter who encouraged Rachel to take up acting again. “When Eric Tsang (曾志偉) gave me the script, I thought about whether I can handle it or not. During this time, my daughter was preparing to go overseas for her studies, so I asked for her opinion. She said, ‘Film it. When I’m away at school, you’ll get bored.’ So I decided to give it a try.”

Although a caring mother, Rachel gives her daughter a lot of freedom to express herself. Rachel does not have any rules against dating, and will often give her dating tips. Rachel’s daughter does not like rich boys due to their boastful behavior.

Will Consider Re-marrying

In a twist of fate, Rachel is currently dating Calvin Poon, whom she first fell in love with in 1985. The pair met while shooting a movie together, but Calvin was married at the time and Rachel already had a boyfriend. Although Calvin divorced his wife, hoping to be together with Rachel, she was involved with another man. Twenty years later, after Rachel became a mother and got divorced, she and Calvin found each other again.

While many hoped that Rachel and Calvin would cherish their second chance at love by tying the knot, reports claim that Rachel hesitated to re-marry because of her daughter. Rachel once again dodged questions on her wedding plans, “There are talks about this every year, but there really is no plan! I’ll think about it first, because I’ve already gotten used to everything already.” She added that Calvin’s schedule is even busier than hers, and the couple will have to find the time first. Although she is a loving mother, Rachel does not want to have more children this late in life.
