Francis Ng Teaches Son to Make Toys Out of Scrap
Francis Ng (吳鎮宇) has earned the public’s respect with his positive parenting in the second season of Where Are We Going, Dad? <爸爸去哪兒>. According to the rules of the show, the children are not allowed to bring any toys or snacks to the rural areas, where they and their fathers would be spending for a few days.
Francis’ 5-year-old son, Feynman Ng (吳費曼), was devastated when he was stripped of his toys. However, his father presented ways to make toys out of clothes hangers, grass, gloves, and other materials that were available. The father and son pretended that the clothes hanger was an instrument and performed a duet. When they were walking through the wilderness, Francis picked out grass on the road and weaved a hat for Feynman to wear. When Feynman was unhappy, Francis blew air into plastic gloves and played it off as a balloon, immediately cheering up his son. Francis practically grabbed every object in their house and made them into toys for Feynman to play with.
Francis said in a later interview, “I believe that if you want to play, you’ll be able to make toys out of everything, from clothes hangers to plastic gloves. It doesn’t necessarily have to be high-tech. Technology makes life more convenient, but it can also make people lose concentration and be lazy. We must be creative. What’s the point of life if we lack creativity?”
Netizens praised Francis’ practical mind and valor. They agreed that modern technology can make one “sick”, causing a person to become lazier and less independent. With the era of the Internet and the rise of social media, children have become less sociable, less patient, more needy, and more susceptible to distractions.
By eliminating the luxuries of the high-tech life, viewers noted that Dad, Where Are We Doing? does have its educational value – to teach children about independence, modesty, and creativity.

Francis sounds like a great father.
Yes, he sounds very modest, humble and down to
earth too.
I’ve seen the first episode. He’s ok, just a father who likes to toughen Feynman up and but occassionally will show the softer side. Although his defiant on insisting to bring the luggages was a bit difficult to comprehend. His cooking skills look impressive though.
This season, all the dads look like they can cook except for Yang Wei. But his son Yang Yang Yang comes up with the best quotes.
I absolutely fell in love with the first series of where are we going dad. I must confessed I was originally a hater and didn’t watch it because I thought it was a stupid reality TV show. Then a friend said don’t knock it until you have seen at least an episode. I watched episode 1, series 1, well the rest is history. Can’t wait for series 2. Hopefully it’ll be just as good as series 1. Most looking forward to combos are Gary Chaw and 2 kids in tow plus Francis Ng and his son.
Frankly, Francis was hilarious instead of serious looking actor in screen….
He plays his role excellently and a good dad as well….
Good job, Francis…
Keep it up..
msz yaya have you seen the where are we going dad new show yet? Is it out already? If yes, it would be much appreciated if you can please tell me where I can watch it? Thanks
Respect Francis! Sound like an awesome dad!
Such change of tune in here right now. In previous articles Jaynestars visitor are bashing Francis saying he is a mean, abusive father etc.
Well, the article wrote Francis as though he was an abusive father. It said he poured hot food on his son when he misbehave , and he would knock him down the stairs if he’s not walking properly or something. If that’s not abuse I don’t know what is. Maybe that article exaggerated the whole story, I don’t know…he seems so fatherly-like here.
That is what I was thinking. I remember many bashing Francis saying he was a mean and abusive father. But now everyone is praising him. Sigh.. The power of the reporters’ pen can either make or break you. Things are also often lost in translation, misinterpreted and mistranslated as well.
Btw his son looks so cute! All celebrities children are cute.
Hope he too tells his kid to exercise care toying with those stuff, which can be dangerous.
In those gifted education classes offered for the highly intelligent brilliant folk = a commonality in those courses is problem-solving,critical-thinking and an ability to ‘think out of the box’ creativity.
That is resourcefulness. The ability to visualise something and brainstorm possibilities, even when there appears to be nothing to work with.
It is also a valuable skill the work-hard muggers in life often lack, even if they score straight As.
Thumbs up for Francis!!
Really get in touch with nature and reality!
