Fala Chen Says Francis Ng is Not a Fierce Father
Francis Ng (吳鎮宇), Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼), Kate Tsui (徐子珊), and Fala Chen (陳法拉) attended the grand opening of a fashion brand in Shenzhen. Francis and Charmaine, who both star in the movie version of Triumph in the Skies <衝上雲霄>, revealed that they have already started filming a few days ago. The movie also stars Chilam Cheung (張智霖), Sammi Cheng (鄭秀文), and Louis Koo (古天樂).
Charmaine said her role will be the love interest of Louis’ character. She added that working with Louis has been very fun.
Kate Tsui Turned Down Pursuer
Kate Tsui revealed that she recently returned from a month-long acting course held in New York. She struck a friendship with her professor’s assistant, who even asked her out. Since she had to return to Hong Kong for work and out of fear of long distance relationships, she kindly rejected her pursuer. Nonetheless, the two remained as good friends.
Fala Chen Watches “Where Are We Going, Dad?”
Though Fala Chen missed the opportunity to star in the Triumph in the Skies movie, she stressed that she has been reading through several movie scripts and is in talks to star in an upcoming film. She said she has been catching up with popular mainland Chinese reality show, Where Are We Going, Dad? <爸爸去哪兒>. Regarding Francis’ parenting style, Fala disagreed and said Francis is not that fierce, revealing that he has once brought his son to visit the set of Triumph in the Skies 2 before.
Reports say that Francis’ wife makes an appearance in a later episode of Where Are We Going, Dad?, to which Francis said, “It is true. She requested it. I personally do not want her to show up on camera, but she insisted. However, only half of her face will be shown.”

I saw the episode in which all the mothers of the kids showed up. Francis’ wife’s scenes were quite awkward, since all the other mothers showed their entire face, but she was so mysterious by wearing a cap and keeping her head down.
It wasn’t that awkward in my opinion…even though she wore a cap, her entire face was still visible. Also, the official weibo account for Where Are We Going Dad released pictures that each of the 5 families took and she didn’t hide her face in any of those photos.
I personally enjoyed that particular episode. It was really sweet of the production team to invite all the mothers to visit and cook a special meal for their husbands and children. The surprised expressions on everyone’s faces when they returned and saw the moms there was priceless…very touching!
I didn’t think it awkward. She’s actually low-key and in one of Francis’ interview, he said his wife contemplated if she should go. She only decided ‘cos she felt the other mothers will be there and if she’s not, Feynman may feel something. Hence, she agreed to show up but on condition that they do not screen her too much (half face or less screen time).
I like that episode too. Nice to see all the surprised look. Not sure if it’s just me but I feel the second season is tougher than the first. Kudos to all the dads though.
@PPearl: No, not just you — second season is definitely tougher than the first season. The dads have to do alot more manual labor this season than the dads did last season. But I like that they’re all being such good sports about it and still giving their all, no matter how tough the conditions are (and yes, the conditions are alot tougher this time around too).
On a related note…I’m also looking forward to the next episode where they start a new trip to Mongolia, since we get to see 2 of the father/son teams from the first season participate with the current ones (Tian Tian and Little Rock will participate with their dads)…looking forward to seeing them again! 🙂

Feynman is super cute! Meh, I like season 2 than season 1 a lot.
I don’t think Francis is very fierce or strict too from the show. I feel that he has a way with children. Like when yangyangyang was throwing tantrums regarding the taking off shoes, Francis managed to console him when even yangyangyang father couldn’t.
Haha! So true! And with Grace too — Francis is always playing with her and taking care of her. It was so cute in last week’s episode when they kept laughing and giggling and playing together like two 3 years olds (lol..hey, he’s not nicknamed “3 year old Ng” for nothing…haha).
You know, those audiences who keep saying that Francis is a fierce father or has a “militaristic” parenting style must be watching a different show or something because that definitely isn’t the case based on the episodes that aired so far!
Francis kind of scared me in the first few episodes because he did seem really strict with Feynman lol But after watching more episodes, I realized that Francis actually really likes kids! I love how he interacts with Yang Yang Yang and Grace. I think compared to the other dads on the show, he’s just more strict(stricter?)when disciplining. He’s definitely one of the more playful dads though haha
I also really love the way Francis interacts with the other kids. He definitely takes a liking to both YangYang Yang and Grace (noticed that he kissed YYY twice already in separate episodes…LOL). After watching so many episodes of the show, I realize now that Francis is truly a big kid at heart and can be just as playful as the 3 to 5 year olds — perhaps this is why he gets along so well with all the kids.
About his parenting style….yes, I would say that Francis is strict, but that’s really different from being “fierce” and “militaristic” (which is what the Media has been painting him out to be). Sure, he’s more strict with his son than with other kids, but then again, most parents are like that — I don’t see anything wrong with that at all, which is why I feel it’s unfair for the Media (more specifically the HK tabloids) to try and paint him to be some tyrannical parent or something.
Also, to me, he’s not really ‘stricter’ than other parents, it’s just that his style is ‘different’ and because people don’t understand it (and don’t take the time to understand his mindset or way of doing things), they label him as being ‘fierce’ or ‘mean’. (It’s similar to the situation last week where Francis got into a car accident and negotiated the matter civilly with the other driver, resulting in a good ending for both parties — yet even after all was said and done, the HK tabloids refused to accept that the matter was handled well and started making up stories about Francis being mean to the other driver, yelling at him, etc. No wonder Francis felt the need to lash out at the tabloids via his Weibo).
