Cecilia Cheung’s Father Suffers from Broken Leg Due to Unpaid Debts

Glory is no longer seen for Cecilia Cheung’s (張栢芝) father Cheung Yan Yung (張仁勇), who was once a prominent figure in the Hong Kong triad community. Cheung Yan Yung is once again in debt, and this time, Cecilia says she will no longer lend out a helping hand.

When Cecilia first debuted, she had helped her father pay off his debts several times. Last year, Cheung Yan Yung made headlines when it was known that he had conned 2 million RMB from a business in mainland China. Cheung’s portrait was plastered all over Hong Kong’s major districts Central and Wan Chai. At the time, Cecilia had refused to comment on the matter and instead emphasized that she would focus her efforts on caring for her two sons, Lucas and Quintus.

It turns out that Cecilia had really left her father for good. While Cecilia and her sons moved to Singapore, her father was left to live by himself in a village in Tai Wai. On August 20, the paparazzi spotted Cheung and a friend walking to a nearby dim sum restaurant for lunch. Cheung appeared to be injured and had to rely on his friend for walking support.

An hour later, Cheung and his friend left the restaurant to return home. When his friend saw the paparazzi, he angrily said, “Do not take photos!”

Walking with an injured leg, it was rumored that Cheung was beaten up after he had failed to repay his recent debt. He also moved to Tai Wai to avoid debt collectors.

Cheung admitted that his leg was injured but told the paparazzi that he was fine. Asked if his sons and daughter had visited him, he said, “Yes.” On why he decided to move to a village, Cheung said, “Just a change. I’m living by myself now, but I have [my friend] to take care of me.”

  1. Avoid debt collectors…now everyone knows where he is. LOL

That must be one of the most unflattering pic of Cecilia

      1. Nothing unflattering about Cecelia in the Edison’s photos scandal. She was so beautiful there.

Bet you envy her body which you don’t have, hehehe

  2. “Just a change. I’m living by myself now, but I have [my friend] to take care of me.”

A thug. That’s good, just stay there for the safety of others. 😀 🙁 LOL!

    1. Lucky for him, it was his leg not his neck. 😀 🙁 LOL!

  3. Reminds me of Ada Choi’s mother. This kind of person deserves no help. I’m not surprised if Cecilia decided to stay out of this.

  4. i mean if the triads really wanted to make a point, he would be much worse than limping

  5. Probably a wise move for Cecelia to appear as though she’s cut all contact… cannot imagine how the gangsters would extort her otherwise!

  6. CC may have moved to Singapore but I still fear for the safety of L & Q. Debt collectors can have all sorts of ideas.

  7. WOW – did CPC and NT fake their divorce to get away from her father’s shenanigans?

I think violence over money that you TRICKED him into losing to you is quite terrible and criminal.

It’s not a true debt like if you exchanged goods for payment.

  8. gambling is predatory and takes advantages of damaged souls and destroys their false hope and damages them further – it’s the gambling operator who is cynical and the gambler who is immature

much worse – it attacks the family and makes the gambler alienated from his or her family – but it is an outsider predator who does it and they are Rollo Tomasi

  9. It’s sad when parents show bad example. Don’t know whether others notice that it’s always the chinese that are really into gambling. Gambling is the worst if you compare it with drugs, alcohol, prostituition and the last one loafing (not sure if this is the right one because I can’t read chinese).

    1. You must be stupid to have to comment that Chinese are into gambling, as in, it is, in a way part of cultural norms. You have marjong tables at weddings, HK Jockey Club is one of the richest entities in HK, Macao is the world’s biggest, etc

It’s all well and good if it’s an occasional entertainment, which most are.

You westerners might think it’s worst than drugs, how many Hollywood celebs are into drugs at one time or another?
The drug scourge is 100 times worse.

      And what’s this ‘loafing’????

      1. Fat gor,
I’m also a chinese, yes, playing mahjongs as a past time or involve very little money is not a problem.

Have you seen family harrassed by so called loan sharks because the family members gambled away everything and still borrowed money from loan sharks?

Yes, gambling is a kind of entertainment and I agree. But not everyone can have self control. I’ve seen and heard so many ppl gambled away their business, their family properties etc and some even have to commit suicide. I didnt say other races dont gamble, I said a lot of times chinese gambles and gambles have no limit.

When you’re on drugs, you take as much drugs you can and maybe you will die.

Same goes with alcohol, you’ll be unconcious or intoxicated. But gambling is the one thing that there’s no limit!

You dont have to agree but pls dont assume I’m a westener just because I wrote chinese ppl likes to gamble.

Have you seen some women gamble day and night? They dont even remember they’ve a family to take care? I think you lived in a very ignorant world of yours and never heard and seen all these sad things and feel gamble is good thing.

      2. In a way I agree with both of you in terms of the gambling culture. Although it is wrong to stereotype that the Chinese are more prone to gambling as to other races, but that’s true in most Chinese families where loan sharks are seen as predators hunting down the family members. And very few times we heard that other races are the victims of the loan shark because of gambling debts.

But as to gambling don’t kill, well it does kill as it will force the gamblers who lost a great deal of money into committing suicide. Some involving the entire family too. Which is sad. I agree that stereotyping the Chinese into gambling might not be right, but I think that’s how we have been brained washed from watching drama series since young…very few we seen from the Hollywood movies which portray such depictions.

      3. Hi Tess,

Being a chinese myself, I feel sorry when I see, hear and read it myself. Take for example the recent World Cup, a lot of ppl had to go into hiding because they borrowed lots of money. Now gambling is not necessarily going to Macao, Vegas just to name a few. Online gambling, illegal gambling dents. How many youths or even adults are self controlled. It’s sad to lose everything due to gambling, what I was trying to say is a lot of times chinese are the ones that really into gambling. I dont know what’s so nice of mahjong and cards as I never have interest to even learn it at the first place. Ppl becoming so addictive of it, they can sit there from morning till night, to me I will never want to spend my time like that. To someone out there that being so ignorant on the danger of gambling, I really feel sorry for him/her.

      4. Hey Bloom,

I got what you are mean. Gambling could be a fun activity with friends and family especially during CNY or special occasions like wedding. However, it could be deadly too it one gets too addicted to it and start borrowing from the loan sharks. We heard a lot from the news and yeah, esp during WC fever. I even had friends of friends that need to go on hiding coz owing too much money from the loan sharks and eventually the family had to shoulder the debts. That’s the calamity of gambling if one if not under control.
