Ella Koon Suffers from Facial Paralysis Due to Bell’s Palsy

While attending a promotion event for a fashion brand earlier, Hong Kong singer Ella Koon (官恩娜) announced that she is currently diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy.

Bell’s Palsy is a type of facial paralysis that occurs because of damage to the cranial nerve. This results in the inability to control facial muscles on either one or both sides of the face.

Ella appeared very stiff and wore a frown the entire time during the promotional event. She believed that her paralysis occurred because of a bacterial infection from a fever earlier. She is unable to control the right side of her face and blink.

Shedding tears while speaking about her condition, Ella disclosed, “It’s a possibility that this is happening because of an infection from my fever. I’m currently taking high doses of steroids and that’s why my face is so swollen. My doctor told me to rest and told me people who suffer from Bell’s Palsy usually start getting better after a month. It’ll take three to six months to heal completely. If I’m lucky – it’ll be better in a couple of weeks.”

Taking a break from her current promotions, it is estimated that Ella lost around six-figures in compensation. However, lightening up the mood, Ella joked that her voice has surprisingly become even better after taking her steroids.

  1. i suffer from this disease before..no big deal..it ll get better soon

    1. Really there is this kind of disease I thought the reporters made it up to had that she did plastic surgery but I guess it’s a real disease.

      1. This is definitely a real disease (optometrist here). What Ella suffers from is damage to the facial nerve between the face and the brainstem so one whole side of her face is affected. As the article states, the palsy will resolve with time though relapses may occur.

  2. Poor thing! Sure not from all those injections to her face? Hopefully she gets better.

    1. Wow Funn… I’ve always loved your comments/reviews/episodic thoughts cause I think you’re really funny and somewhat on point with your sarcasm. But that’s a really insensitive comment regarding the injections.

      1. agree with heather. it is a comment that wasnt necessary. very insensitive.

    2. @ Funn,

I suspect she had injections that caused her facial paralyse.

    3. Was it really necessary to make such a comment about her condition, which is in fact a real disease. No one wants to be diagnosed with any type of disease, I’m sure you wouldn’t either.

  3. I think our dentist had it and it eventually resolved itself. I am probably going to get this because I have severe bruxis from my father’s triad murder and my family’s nightmares thanks to the Chinese press.

  4. I got the same thing. It was no fun when drinking water 🙁 need a straw to drink. She needs some acupuncture.

  5. Given the amount of work she has had done to her face in recent years, I’m not surprised that nerve damage has occurred. But whether or not her case is caused by cosmetic injections/surgery or by a flu virus as she says, I hope she will take this is a cue to stop with the cosmetic procedures. There is only so much injury that facial tissues can take because permanent damage takes place.

  6. Hope she can recover real soon. Kinda like her. She’s pretty and love her bubbly personality!

    1. If by RDOV, you meant Revolving Doors of Vengeance, then yesss. :d

  7. My mother suffers from this disease, and unfortunately, it has never cleared. It is better than when it first happened, but even now, several years later, she still has a remnant of the effect.
Hopefully Ella will have a full recovery.

    1. That’s true. I’m only 95% back to normal but that was 3 years. The effect is still here.

    2. TRyrsome acupuncture. My cousin got it from a viral thing. H said acupuncture helped a Lot.

  8. I got it years back. I went for physio for 3 weeks. After one month I am fully recovered.

  9. Hadn’t heard of this illness till this article. But after reading some comments here so I guess Ella will have good recovery. She just have to follow dr’s advice and that includes chinese methods as well. I believe acupuncture is a good treatment method that she should really consider.

  10. bell’s palsy is a real illness. I was diagnosed with the illness 2 weeks ago. it wasn’t a joke. Luckily mine wasn’t as severed as Ella. I was put on steroid for 10 days. Now, it’s getting better but my eyesight is still pretty blurry. I hope she has a speedy recovery.
